- I play ukulele, piano and sing. I also have a severe case of tinnitus that has been with me unchanging for decades. If I am awake there is always a ringing in my ears. I don't recall one moment in 20 or 30 years where I have not experienced a ringing or roaring in my head. Thankfully, when I am fully engaged in playing music or doing any meaningful thing, I forget about the noise in my head. I only hear the music I am making! Does Having Tinnitus Affect Your Enjoyment of Music? A Sufferer Speaks!
I am sad about your Tinnitus. I was also in the Air Force and worked on the tarmac for 4 years as a Security Police (but not my time in VietNam). So we are Air Force brothers. I enjoy your Videos and now I like them even better.
Thanks, friend. Best wishes to you. Rich
Brian Wilson (of the Beach Boys) and Bob Dylan both have this affliction, so we are in good company! William Shatner too!
The miracle is everyone doesn't have it.😊
Thanks for sharing this Rich. Decades of white noise work environments has taken its toll on my hearing and tinnitus. Avoid excessive sound volume at this stage helps alot.
One of the most annoying and painful experiences I've had in the past 20 years was going to a Mannheim Steamroller performance. I finally ended up sitting on the floor outside the auditorium while my wife thoroughly enjoyed the show! Thankfully, a theatre employee came by and offered ear plugs, which saved the day. I really, really, really do not like loud music!! Thanks for helping me understand that this is probably connected to my hearing problems.😊😊😊
Hi Rich, I also have tinnitus as well as hearing loss. I have learned that the two actually can be related. The only treatment that I've read about is taking beta blockers, but I take them (as well as another blood pressure medicine) for my high blood pressure, and they don't seem to help. I also read that they make hearing aids specifically for tinnitus sufferers, but I won't get a hearing aid at this time. I have noticed that my tinnitus gets much louder when my blood pressure gets very high, and also when my anxiety spikes (which it does regularly). At this time, I'm just doing nothing about it, and trying to keep my blood pressure in check and my anxiety calmed down a bit. With complex PTSD that can be a challenge. Thanks for bringing this topic up. Susa
Thanks, friend Susa, for sharing your experience with these difficulties. Ukulele may be the closest thing to a cure we will ever find! Very best wishes. Rich
I have struggled with tinnitus in my left ear since I was around 14! at the time I found it quite maddening, and the only thing that brought me comfort was the sink being on.. but these days I don't tend to notice it unless I think about it. (Thanks for reminding me!! Lol). Having any kind of distraction or white noise helps greatly.
Thanks for sharing your unusual experience with tinnitus. I'm beginning to feel we are the special, chosen ones! Rich
I've had tinnitus really bad for about 50 years (shouldn't have listened to Black Sabbath on headphones so loud). I just ignore it, always have, only think about it WHEN SOMEONE BRINGS IT UP.
That's the way to treat it!! It does seem that this malady is something we do to ourselves. I should have used ear plugs and headphones issued to us. However, at 21, who has grown a brain yet?
Update to Tinnitus topic:
My brother has had Tinnitus for decades.
He also has vertigo that comes
upon standing up from lying down position. We thought they were separate problems.
Now, his Primary Care Physician
is sending him to an Ear Specialist doctor. His problems
are probably caused by the same
condition. It is called Menier's Disease. Caused by fluid in the inner ear canal. That would be
good to have one syndrome instead of a few separate medical issues.
Thanks for the update. I wish your brother the best. Rich
OMG
I never suspected you have the problem of Tinnitus.
I can certainly emphasize, because my brother also has
severe unrelenting Tinnitus.
He has had it for decades. Since he was a teenager. It troubles him.
He also has middle ear problems. Not sure if they come from Tinnitus.
Some deafness in one ear.
Occasionally dizziness.
Poor balance.
His primary care physician
recently sent him for physio therapy. He believes that a PT
by moving positions of head
can shift the crystals in your inner ear around.
Did not help much to eliminate
the occasional dizziness.
He has to give his doctor the
evaluation from PT that he still must see an Ear Doctor Specialist. I think that my brother's ear problems started
when he was in a minor car accident as a teenager that caused a sliver of glass to go in
one ear. But, my brother's doctor
does not accept my diagnosis.
P.S. My brother loves listening
to 🎶 music. But, I think he still
hears the tinnitus even while listening to music.
I notice that he loves to listen to music loudly.
We should form a tinnitus club. No doubt there are many forms of this illness. Whereas your brother likes loud music, the same is cruel punishment for me. As an aside: as a public speaker I always spoke with a microphone. I remember a few times when the volume was too high I'd see little kids in the audience holding their fingers in their ears!
@@richdavis4007 I think my brother likes and needs music & other things to be loud
so that he can hear them over the noise from Tinnitus. He is heard of hearing in addition to tinnitus. I don't
know if it is the same ear.
I always have to request him to lower the volume on TV and car radio.
