I'm Irish myself and living in Ireland but a few years back my daughter and my granddaughter both moved to Stevenage , my daughter got a job there while it was another country I told myself it's easy to get and I'll be to visit them while I knew my kids would grow up one day you hope they will always be near by at least but I can tell you now that the people in Stevenage were very nice people and were good to our daughter and our granddaughter. In the years they were there in Stevenage I'm very proud to say not once did anyone in Stevenage did anyone ever call them names or give them a hard time for being Irish not once.
In fact quite the opposite I would say so ,I found this Stevenage in something like this to be extremely harsh.
So from a Irish gentleman we are very grateful to all the people of Stevenage and we all still keep a eye on Stevenage and the football team as well who when our daughter and our granddaughter were there had a very good youth football academy.
Again thank you all our daughter and grandchildren are now back a few years now and I'm sure you'll all understand we are very happy for that
God bless and take care also please remove Stevenage from list as you're being way to harsh on Stevenage and her people

My parents moved from Donegal to UK in late 1960s. They found jobs and opportunities that they never would in Ireland and never experienced any negative comments ! It really annoys me to
read comments here from younger Irish people slagging off Britain and praising the EU !

    • @Raggman42
      @Raggman42 2 роки тому

@@2msvalkyrie529 you may have understood me while I would not allow anyone blame a people in this case people in Stevenage who were actually helpful to my Draughter and granddaughter but that doesn’t mean that the people of the Eu are not as good because they are.
May I remind you people in Britain wanted to invade my country Ireland 🇮🇪 not our friends in the EU if anything our friends have stood by Ireland 🇮🇪 for all the right reasons after all the Good Friday agreement is important to all of us.
Now look at the six counties of Ireland where most people including some unionist people who can see the benefits of the protocol but you have the same old ones who have always wanted hatred for the Irish people and Ireland 🇮🇪 itself.
Some day the English people along with Welsh and Scottish will see although I believe myself these people are starting to see what’s really happening in the six counties of Ireland.
These hard core unionist are the real problem and when this is addressed by the English Welsh Scottish people you will find a totally different and better way for Ireland England Wales and Scotland to work together for better future for all of us .
But as regards the EU have really help us and of course our families and friends in the United States of America 🇺🇸 who we owe a huge amount too .
Now I could go into a lot more about what these people wanted to do against Ireland 🇮🇪 but most of it was fantasy but British politicians actually tried to get Ireland 🇮🇪 thrown out of the EU now that’s over stepping the mark and unforgivable and why I personally never want England in the EU again.
I was a person who said they want out then out but like when Ireland 🇮🇪 fought and won our independence I’ll remind everyone Britain applied tariffs and I mean very high tariffs as much as 250 percent on certain goods.
When you leave something you don’t take the good parts only your on own it’s that simple really.
But it doesn’t change my mind about Stevenage or its people .

Out of control inbreds being wilfully ignored by their parents. Anorexic, geriatric donkeys being beaten by venomous owners. Rarely being given the right change. A football club with a long history of ownership by "colourful" sex abusers and their families. Vomit. The strange lack of trains willing to go to either station. Watery, fizzy beer.

It's as simple as that! Inside Blackpool Tower, it is simply luxurious, in a Victorian style. They have a telescope on top, and I was looking out to sea, so I wouldn't have to look at the buildings - which are most unfortunate in nearly all the colour of strong tea! The area surrounding Blackpool is the same colour, too!

Torquay, the third worst place to live in the UK? Are you kidding? Have you ever actually ever been here? Apparently not, judging by that back-to-front picture of Meadfoot Beach you included in this debacle! Very amateurish, I'd say. If it's so bad here, why do so many grockles keep coming back here year after year to stay? And why do so many blow-ins move down here and buy up all our houses? Crime rate very scary? You've not been around. Any crime here is often down to certain outsiders who swarm here to live anyway. In fact, to put the town where I was born and raised in this perfidious list indicates that you've not really visited very many places in the UK at all.
But I'll say one good thing. If you hate my hometown so much, at least we'll never see your mush here anytime soon.

Click bait. Obviously written by someone who’s first language isn’t English and then read by someone who couldn’t be bothered to make it sound more vernacular or even research the correct pronunciations of all place names (Welwyn is pronounced “Wellin”).
No sources quoted to back up the claims.
Just petty and divisive for the sake of it.

It is spelt Welwyn for a reason: it was pronounced Wel-Win. It is not the non-locals fault that the lazy-tongued locals couldn't be bothered to continue pronouncing the 2nd w. A common problem in England, lazy pronunciation and then righteous indignation that some outsider says it correctly, namely, as it's written. Written language followed spoken language, of course, and vowels and consonants were placed in a word to reflect the pronunciation of the spoken language. So Welwyn would have been pronounced wel-win, just as Warwick would have been pronounced war-wick.

He named his massive house Paisley Park after the town. He was never happier watching Scottish Football with his pal Rod Stewart. I think it's fair to say there's good and bad in every town. If you grew up in a thatched village in the cotswolds or in rural Norfolk, visiting almost any working class town is likely to be a frightening experience. Many towns grew up around industries that no longer exist for various political or technological reasons and it leaves the people who live there high and dry, doing their best to survive. I can honestly say I've been to many towns in the UK in my almost 60 years and I've never been mugged, beaten or killed. Although London scares the shit out of me 😁

I have one or two points of contention around some of the Towns mentioned here.
Halifax has the PIece Hall, which is a wonderful example of 18th century British Architecture. Now restored to glory as a cultural exhibition centre and independent craft/retail outlet.
There is also Shibden Hall, the seat of the (postumously) famous female industrialist, Anne Lister.
    Halifax can be interesting place.
Luton is a dump in many more ways that just chavs'.
A good number of former residents went missing after 9/11, and turned up amongst those killed fighting coalition forces.
It also has tendrils of "Islam4UK" in it's sizeable Asian community.
Hartlepool is a mixed bag. The town centre has some wonderful examples of Victorian/Edwardian Architecture, though the retail scene is very low end. The day we visited the town centre, it was almost lifeless. A huge engineering Ship was docked at quayside. It absolutely dwarfed the surrounding buildings. It was an awesome sight.
It makes you appreciate that Hartlepool was once a busy as a town and port. It was the centre for a power station, now long gone.
The Royal Navy Museum is a Gem. It is well worth a visit. An 18th quayside complete with a real warship.
I spoke to one fellow there about housing. He told me that while first buyer property was cheap in comparison to national prices, it was often swallowed up by London based portfolio investors. Or as they are referred to locally, "w***kers".
The tactic of the investors is to buy every bit of cheap housing and move in DSS/Social security tenants at the maximum rental price that can be legally charged; roughly £600 a month. With a monthly mortgage of £300 and 10% management fee, it's a no brainer in terms of investment. Whether you mind the building and it's surrounding neighbourhood being destroyed, is another thing.
But if you're sat in a London Penthouse, these are obviously not on your mind.
If you're looking for more moribund town's to list, I would recommend three. Rhyl, in North Wales, Castleford West Yorkshire, and it's RL rival Featherstone.

    • @southerncomfort7490
      @southerncomfort7490 3 роки тому +1

Agreed on Rhyl. Re: Hartlepool. As someone who grew up in Wrexham and worked in Widnes and Bolton, 'squalor' is my middle name. I would also make it clear that no matter how bad the place is, I would not necessarily associate it with the poor souls have have the misfortune to live there. Sometimes fate can just be very cruel and some of the very best people come from the biggest cr*apholes.
That said, when I first visited Hartlepoole, despite being innured - or so I thought - to 'Sump Tank Central', my jaw dropped to my navel. As with all towns, as you point out, there a good elements. I would also highlight the wonderful Railway Hotel. That aside, the rest just looks like an aboveground nuclear shelter. A truly sad and desolate place. One can only feel sorry for the natives having to live there.
But, to be fair, Reg Smythe settled there and thought that it was paradise. So, if it was good enough for Andy Capp's creator, it is certainly good enough for Andy Capp.

Halifax is the nearest large town to me & while it's definitely not the greatest place I've seen a lot of far worse places that didn't even get a mention. High Wycombe .
I totally agree with Oldham though - Stand in one spot on a Saturday night in Oldham town centre & from your vantage point at any given moment you'll see at least one girl being sick, a man passed out drunk on the floor, & a couple having "relations" in a shop doorway. And I've never forgiven Oldham for the parking ticket that got slapped on my car before the time on the meter had run out.
If it were cities then you could save yourself a lot of trouble by just putting Bradford as all 10 entries on the list. ;)

The Holiday Inn Express Hotel on Albert Road is good, and the railway station is impressive. I have absolutely no interest in football, and shopping isn’t really my thing, but the shops are better than in many other places. He is told about paramos, tries one and says how terrible it is. I wanted to try one while I was there, but didn’t see anywhere selling them.
