I HAVE A S7-400 REDUNDANT PROCESSOR AND I/O CHASIS REDUNDANT, I WANT TO PUT A PG IN THE CONTROL ROOM, I HAVE A REPETER RS485 TO BUD THE COMUNICATION CABLE TO THE CONTROL ROOM IS A MONOMODE OPTIC FIBER, HOW I CAN COMUNICATE THIS PG.
Sir, your videos are very helpful regarding Automation...But Can you make a video on control valve details, their selection criteria & regarding Cv calculations for control valves..etc..?? Please...we are waiting...thank you...
Well explained video .... Can you explain about Protocols used in industrial automation I want to know about each protocol and how it works and why we use that
Your in depth explanation with small video is very useful. Please also make a video on all other communications/ network used in automation. Like ProfiNET. Thank you.
Great video! Is this video in your website, because I searched there and didn't find nothing. Do you have other ""communications videos" in your website? which are? thanks!
thanks for video. I have one question. Let's say that I have SCADA and PLC. Distance between them is about 3km. What is in your opinion best method to connect them? Profinet, Profibus, Optical Fiber cable...? What is the cheapest solution? Best regards
For a 3km run, only fiber optic will be suitable. The maximum length for Profibus transmission is about 1.2km (1200m), and for Profinet, it is the same as for Ethernet (100m). Fiber optics can be run 25km or so, but the cable is relatively expensive (US$10,000 per km installed). 3km is in the domain of Remote Telemetry Units, which collect data from the source (PLC) and send it to a host (SCADA) via Cell Phone signal (GSM/CMDA) or radio frequency. Cell-based communications carry a monthly access charge, but the initial investment is quite low compared to fiber optic runs of that length.
Hi dears. Very good and useful video. I am asking you for advice if I want to start learning the PLC and automation systems, from where i can start and what is the best way to do this?

Thank you for your question. We could move the PLC to a remote I/O panel, but automation engineers typically keep CPUs in a more environmentally-friendly location. But you are correct; the PLC could also be placed in a Remote I/O Panel and communicate via Industrial Ethernet to the plant network. Profinet is one type of Industrial Ethernet, but it is most often used for Siemens systems.

Why not move the PLC to the I/O cabinet and communicate with Ethernet? Setup a redundant Ethernet connection as well. Would that be Profinet?
