I've been following the twins for about 4 years now, and to be honest i still don't know shit about dance in general, i just think that it's extremely entertaining to see them perform so when i see someone like you (robert) that truly understands dance explain why they are good, it's kinda like you're explaining something that i knew but couldn't put in words, so thank you man, i'm now even more curious about the whole dancing community in general. Great video!
I hope that you make a WMTDG on Paradox, i reaaally enjoy seeing him also!

Yes! There is so much more to talk about concerning Larry and Laurent. The first thing I noticed about them was their faces that could have been drawn by Renaissance masters. Les Twins are thé most conscious performers of any kind that utilize facial expression in concert with other movements. I would argue that they are the greatest poets of physical expression as well as important dancers. When I first saw them dance on NBC WOD, I was struck by the range of dance style they had in hand, especially the posture foundation from classical ballet. For me, Laurent seems to echo and build so much on Nijinsky’s work in the manner of starkly confronting the viewer with depths of emotion. (The emotional reaction you were apologizing for is perhaps the most important aspect of their performance abilities. The ability to draw an emotional response and command attention is an earmark of truly great artists.) Their musicality and visual presentation of themselves (their attention to style, clothing, hair, accessories) serves the impact of their performances well. I see the over a century of French aesthetics in Les Twins. They have clearly soaked up a remarkable amount of cultural references from everywhere and are very contemporary, but they also reflect the genius particular to France from Baudelaire and Rimbaud to Le Belle Epoch in Montmartre to Cocteau to Guimard’s Art Deco wrought iron to Duchamp and Matisse. I could go on and on. I prefer Laurent as an artist because he is always reaching for more and has offered so many moments of sheer poetry on the street and in workshops. I love their complete choreographies and sometimes I am disappointed when I thought they should have prepared better for paid performances, but they work hard and exhaust themselves all too often. I have to state that I am an informed aficionado of all the arts, a visual artist with a background in dance. Les Twins have fascinated me more than any artists during my long lifetime. I don’t think I’m alone in finding an answer in them that I have been seeking in the arts. I hope that their material is well archived and the right biographer will understand the place they deserve in the timeline of art history. I am grateful for being able to experience Les Twin’s achievement. They shine a great light. Thank you for your enthusiastic willingness to elucidate their dance techniques in greater detail. I very much appreciate what you are doing.

I love how they feed off of the twin thing but remain separate in identity and individuality. Twins have a hard time with that. They develope a type of syndrome where they believe they are the same person sometimes. But if you watch these two enough, the difference between them jumps out at you. Laurant is driven by feeling is how I take it. Sorry if I spelled the name wrong. He gets lost in the music, it's really nice to see people still do that.

I think their dance-style format is what makes them stand out, it is not always the same movements each time with the same songs, and hit beats or instrument sounds, using as much from the music, even the lyrics. I expect this is why it is called free-style. Larry and Laurent dance differently, and I also enjoy when they perform together. You have to understand that their physic is strong and their leanness. I love watching dancing in general, I think it is extremely creative.

First off, Robert, it’s super cool to listen to a dancer’s reaction to Les Twins as it adds more depth to the analysis, so thank you for this! I love how you mentioned attributes that only Les Twins have, such as their physical interpretation of music, unique choreography that includes solos, their stories through dance, and distinctions between the two. As for their personality, it’s actually what I love about them, and you can see how their personalities reflect in the music they dance to .. through raw talent, being genuine, goofy, and overall mesmerizing. I’ve never seen dancers whose moves are faster than the human eye could catch if you know what I mean.
    Amazing reaction & insight 💚

My favorite parts were when you pointed out at 2:23 how they are one with the music, that they are the physical interpretation of the music,- i couldn't agree more! I sometimes feel like they are creating the music, they are so connected to it that it seems as though the music is coming straight from their bodies. My other favorite was when you spoke about their musicality later in the video. This was so cool to watch & I could tell you really read all the comments on the last video about some of the differences between Larry & Laurent. You have such a cool attitude, i love it & i can see why you have a following here. Loved your appreciation of Larry's technicality & also Laurent's ability in the realm of contemporary as well ("Contempo-Lau"😂)...you have to watch their audition video for WOD 2017 if you haven't already. I love the dance style of both Lau and Larry but I particularly love how deep in the pocket Lau dances. I picked up on that the first time I saw them dance years ago. To me Lau’s a dancer’s dancer. His squats are deeper, his stance wider, just bigger movements. Not a criticism of Larry, who Yes, has phenomenal footwork, just an observation of Lau...and yes, I’ve seen Lau dance more “ghetto” or true hip hop. I’ve seen him go there, not often enough for me but when he does more hip hop it’s always a treat. I believe he just prefers his own style. I saw a post once by someone who posted that Lau can dance Larry’s style but Larry can’t generally follow Lau’s style. Lately though I’ve seen Larry start to incorporate some of Lau’s slower more lyrical moves.

In my opinion it's also not a proper entertainment as the emotions and movements come from the heart and they (Laurry) mean everything they express. That's that for the first clip hihi. Hi Robert . Interesting how we both came up with the word organic to describe the twins independentally of one another . I gained a little respect back for them . The second video is when I fell in love with them . They got so mean after I kind of stopped watching them after Salah faced both of them at once. Did you see the battle , Salah beat both of les twins in a 1v2. They were getting mean around that time period. I wouldn’t have never guessed . I watched as Laurent leaned that multiple spinning turns along the ground without the hands. He perfected it over years in earlier videos he would use his hands and do the same move. Then he learned to do like 2 turns along the ground without hands. Then 3, then 4. Now he can do a full circle and it’s sick . Reminds me of when Salah dos that wacky horizontal cartwheels.
Robert. Truly, you should go for World of Dance . I know inside you have more content than before. Your incredible talent is inspiring Rob. Whether or not that is the path you choose is your choice . I do not have any doubt in your skill level.
Further more. I reccommend you do a video on Kite. He has so much content online and I think he has the fastest footwork in the popping world. He needs one more than future. This guy is an OG, his poses are unique and his freestyle looks choreographed . If I remember to post a few of my favorite videos I will here .
    Peace and love brother,

Larry’s style is far more versatile.
Don’t get me wrong, Laurent can truly take the spotlight, but there’s more of an intricacy to his dancing. He’ll refrain from hitting certain instrumentals to tell a bigger story and more times than not that goes over people head. But that makes his skill subjective to whoever’s watching.
Some people will feel that he dropped the song
While others may feel he just pulled a technical masterpiece.
One thing that’s for sure is that Larry has NEVER disappointed. Sometimes he’s fallen behind his brother because his technical musicality doesn’t fit with every song. Meaning that even if he is hitting beats.. if the song isn’t bass/808 oriented.. his style won’t be as impactful as Laurent.
So in a way you can say, Laurent does better at lyric-based songs and Larry does better to multi layered instrumentals.

I believe Les Twins are freaking amazing and have such natural talent in dance. So unique.
I'm not a dancer so I could be totally wrong but if I could critique them as dancers (in my opinion) is their transitions/ resetswhen they freestyle. It seems like they don't always have fluidity when they dance. Obviously some of these videos are old so I know they improved a lot over time. Even currently it seems like thats still a critique I have of them. Hopefully having Slim Boogie a part of their crew now can teach them certain things

hey robert, thank you for this. well done. you were being very fair this time (i.e. after the first version ; )) and i have a lot of respect for this. your professional observations and comments about all the details are great and very helpful to a non-dancer like myself. another little info which you might be glad to know... you talk about les twins' 'training' and how it is common in france for dancers to learn lots of different dance styles. don't know if i'm the only one who interpreted it this way, but it kind of implies that larry and laurent actually went to (lots of different) dance classes. as far as i know (and although i have met them twice, this is something i only read) les twins never went to a single dance class. instead, they have been dancing since their early childhood. apparently, six of their seven siblings (yes, there being nine in total ; )) are dancers, as well as their mum. thanks again and all the best, marina

Good video, and informative, because i had no clue about all the styles they mix.. i have always loved dance and music..particularly hip hop and krump and dancehall, but other than that i know very little and also not alot about those. not really a dancer myself because ive been way too shy.though ive taken some dance classes here and there i wish i had started dancing ealier while i was an infant, like les twins. lol.

“Lay” Twins. We as Americans generally pronounce it wrong. In French “Les” means “The” as in The Twins. I personally cringe when people pronounce it like “Less” Twins. Although yes, I’ve heard both Lau and Larry pronounce it like “less” Twins, I honestly believe they do it bc we Americans pronounce it that way and it’s just a convenience. We should pronounce it correctly, however, IMO. I have a literary degree so sorry, I hate misspelling and/or mispronouncing words. A fractional hang up of mine. ✌🏽😊. Good analogy, btw.

    • @charmainglass9096

      @
mimzy1124 Lassiter Since it's a name, I think we should pronounce it the way the owner of the name pronounces it. They created it and should be the ones to determine how it's pronounced. It's "Les Twins" not "Les Jumeaux" which actually means the twins in French. Laurent and Larry were creative with a mixture of French and English. It's their name. Follow their lead. And what's wrong with "the" before the name of the group. The name of the group is Les Twins not The Twins. Americans tried to translate it and correct like we love to do. If Larry and Laurent say "the" before the name of their group, I accept the Les Twins.

    • @mimzyLassiter
      @mimzyLassiter 5 років тому

charmain glass Exactly what I’m saying. THEY, though have revised it, THAT is the way Americans pronounce it. They started out with the real pronunciation as “Lay” Twins and still, occasionally pronounce it that way. In an interview they even clarified that as the pronunciation. These posts do not equate a moratorium on anything. If YOU prefer to pronounce it “Less” Twins...be my guess. I was merely clarifying it as to how THEY themselves have clarified it. I believe it might be appropriate to say, no sweat off my nose personally how you pronounce it. I made no demands here, just an observation. Some may follow it, apparently some won’t, and either is okay with me. That’s “lay” truth. 😊
