I agree with all of your 10 points. A couple of my thoughts: 1) The one point I would differ is the point about Usher not including the details that JK included. I actually enjoyed seeing Usher take some style license with the choreography (like an arm up on a spin) that did not overpower JK doing the standard song choreography, but added something different as the feature artist. He also included personal MJ collaboration nods that were really an honor to JK (like the way he did the spins around JK in the dance break - he did something just like that around MJ). It added to the MJ inspired SNTY choreography in a way only Usher could do. I thought it was very special and shows the ongoing respect JK is getting from other artists. 2) I agree that BTS underestimated how much they are loved in the US at first. They don’t get industry feedback because the US music industry works against them (as you have explained), and when Jimin and Suga were planning their solo activities I don’t think they really realized how big they are here. It isn’t just LA and LasVegas or NY. Suga sold out his tour only to the fan club. Anyone else had to get tickets through resellers. Had their been tickets available to the General Public we would also have seen more breadth of the fans at the concerts. Their popularity draws more men and older people in the US. If you look at who was in Times Square you see a picture of the diversity of US fans of BTS. Many legendary groups like Queen are drawing multigenerational fans to concerts in the US - and BTS is one of the current acts that also pulls multigenerational fans to them in the US. I don’t think Suga, Jimin, and even J-Hope fully understood this when they were planning their solo activities. 3) BTS’s relationship with Army hits differently. The motivation for them working so hard to give us content while they are away does not feel selfish like they are just doing it so fans won’t leave. It seems like their motivation really is to give back to Army and care for Army while they are gone. Even if it is a PR strategy, they are really good at making fans feel personally connected to them in a mutually respectful way. Army as a fandom is also really unique in that people care about each other also. The amount of time and effort fans put into making gifts for strangers around them at the Suga/Agust D concert I attended in Chicago was mind-blowing. I’ve been to hundreds of concerts in all different genres of music and have never seen this. 18,000 people singing every song in Korean when Suga’s album had not been out that long was also mind blowing. Army is just different because BTS is special.

I agree as well. The fact that Usher did not completely mirror JK's choreography made it that much more interesting to me. It was so beautiful to watch. 73 y.o. 2015 ARMY from Iowa here.

Wow! Your insights brought tears to my eyes! Thank you so much! I agree with EVERYTHING you said! I too feel that comparing Usher to JK is unfair and unrealistic. Usher is nearly 20 years senior to JK, so tbh, that may limit him in terms of what he is physically COMFORTABLE doing! That choreo is no joke! And JK has been doing it so much and so often in so many venues with his “Golden Boys” backup dancers that the moves, which were designed with HIM IN MIND, are as easy and natural as breathing! I love that JK stayed true to the original choreo, but I also love that Usher’s moves were tailored more stylistically to HIM! There was a little overlap, but their dance was complimentary to each other, which to me mirrored the vocals, which were complimentary but not identical. I can’t get enough of the remix OR the performance!
And agree 💯 about the fandom’s love for each other displayed at Suga’s concert! I was so happy to be there in LA on Mother’s Day with my 2 daughters, to be an older fan of 69 but an equal in my love of Suga and BTS, and to receive sweet little gifts from strangers that felt like extended family. That was a magical day!

I agree with your assessment as well. I am 60 years old and African American. I also flew to Chicago for Suga’s concert back in May. I to have been too many concerts over the years, but this was a completely different experience. I had heard of BTS back when they first appeared on GMA, but was not interested. But when I saw their Permission to Dance concert on Disney + back in December 2022, my interest piqued. Then I went down the rabbit hole starting in January. I love this group and my life has benefited greatly with dealing with depression due to cancer. I am in such a better place mentally due to my boys. My family and friends know of my love and joking say I am BTSing. I pray I am still around in 2025 so I can see the boy’s comeback. I love this channel and the wonderful videos you produce. There was also an account who was looking for Koreans who can go to Jk's house and harm his family members..I don't know how people even have the heart to do so..
I politely disagree that all solos are vicious..Even though I am not a solo but I know a lot of people around me who only follow one member but they don't hate on others..
As long as you are not hating on other members and disrespecting them or their families, I don't think it is fair to call them vicious..

Agree with all you said. I would personally add to your assessment, Jimin's becoming the Dior and Tiffany ambassador. Noting how Jimin's popularity skyrocketed these company's profits brought a lot of joy to me personally as it solidified the enormous global acceptance of this incredible man. Loved all the solo's of all the members and now appreciate even more all the different genres they presented and all their solo songs are also on my Spotify playlist along with the group songs. I saw a comment in other video that each of the member have their own purpose in showcasing their music and thus their own promotion strategy. Although fans might argue over this, BTS members themselves accepted it. Different taste in music enables Different way of promoting things, and ultimately achieves different results. There is no problem here at all. People just like to argue about things which doesnt matter to BTS itself.

Thank you for this video. Your insights and analyses are always very relevant. My highlights of BTS in 2023, are the realization of their solo projects. I was able to discover the artistic universe of the 7 members and learn more about their personalities once they got out of the group's comfort zone. I enjoyed watching them all achieve success.
The song "Take two" is a precious moment, dear to my heart, because the band was together. As much as I enjoyed their solo work, I prefer my 7 men together. For me, that's where they shine brightest. The celebration of their 10th anniversary was also a magical event. I loved watching the beautiful fireworks dancing to the music.
Last but not least, I was lucky enough to attend Paris Fashion Week, where I got to see Jimin and J-Hope. When I look back , it was a rich year with BTS that brought me so much joy despite the trials of my life. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Edit: I forgot to add Jimin's #1 Hot 100 and #1 artist 100 to my highlights. I cried tears of joy that day.💜✨

Well, as of 1st Q of 2023, BTS Jin has helped both Nexon (Maple Story) & Ottogi (Jin Ramen) into the "Trillion-Won Cub" just for a 6 months of collaboration!
Jin was praised at the National Assembly Opening for helping the Hallyu Wave getting stronger in the world, together with the Oscar-winning movie "Parasite"! Jin and Parasite!
The National Assembly stated that Ramen's become globallymore popular thanks to the Jin Ramen Brand Ambassador, Jin of BTS!
His achievements in the military have also been highly laudable by the world, praising him for not only enhancing BTS image but also the Sokor military. i.e. chosen as Company Commander Trainee to lead in their completion ceremony, becoming Assistant Instructor, promoted 2 months early to Corporal due to his passing the tests to become Special/Elite Warrior, promoted 4 months early to Sergeant (now the highest ranked in his Unit) after passing the tests again, and became Squad Leader!
Last but not least, his Birthday celebrations also became firsts for celebrities: biggest & most impressive Exhibition "Jin Story" at HiKR building and transforming Namsan Seoul Tower into a pink-colored video screen guarding a venue for a mini concert of his solo songs!
Can't wait for his return to host 2024 FESTA, debut his solo album, pray also for a world stadium tour concert AND a drama/movie? 🙏🙏

My 2023 highlights reel MUST start with attending Suga’s concert in Los Angeles on Mother’s Day with my 2 daughters! That was just so amazing and took my love and respect for Suga’s music and his talents to a whole ‘nother level!
I have to say regarding SNTY remix Performance Video, that it really bothers me to read comments comparing Usher’s dancing to Jungkook’s. I think they are unfair and unrealistic. Usher is nearly 20 years older than Jungkook! That alone puts him at something of a disadvantage. How many 45 year olds can go head to head with someone 26, in whatever field? Reality check: a 45 year old body just isn’t going to keep pace with a 26 year old one, all things being equal, even when the older one is in as good a shape as Usher obviously is! 2nd, the fact that the original choreography was created with Jk in mind - his youth, his talent, his experience, his athleticism, his training. Jungkook eats this choreo like NOBODY ELSE! PERIODT! Not to mention the fact that he has danced it so many times it has become like breathing for him -completely natural and effortless! So that’s two reasons Usher shouldn’t be expected to look the way Jungkook does, doing the same steps. And 3rd, if Usher was doing every step with Jungkook, that would make him just another backup dancer to Jk, and that would be completely wrong and disrespectful to the legend that Usher IS! By having some distinctly “Usher” moves, both men were able to shine in their own light and in their own right; their dancing was complimentary, not mirrored and that made it more interesting and entertaining for me. Usher’s little “twinkle toes” steps over to join Jungkook was so damn creative and iconic; Usher spin walking (as opposed to moonwalking) around Jk was EPIC! My mind was blown totally when I first watched that performance video, and really, every single time since.
I have thoroughly enjoyed every single member’s solo content this year! All of the variety of genres, all of the collaborations, the promotional events and showcases! I feel BTS as a team and as individuals have “fed” us so well this year!
Thank you for your wonderful and informative channel!
I hope one day you will do a dive into what impact the Military Service has had on idols who interrupt their careers to serve. I’m extremely curious to know how many are able to pick up and keep going forward; how many leave the business for other professions; who have been the most successful post service, etc. Also is BTS the first group to have ALL members serving at the same time? I hope you will consider making such a video. I’m sure I’m not the only one with such questions.

my favorite moment in 2023 was Jimin´s topping the chart as a soloist. i mean it was even a surprise to us because after everything billboard and YT has done to stop us we did it and we did it with a soloist and not every member of BTS. soloist will always have lower sales so it is amazing that they got so many sales. we are not all young army´s anymore and many of us don´t care about the photocards. we care about the music you can se that from the streams.
the other moment is JK´s times square performances he killed it. and Suga´s sold out tour. i must admit that i was un sure if he could sell it out. because we know that the singers has many more solo stans witch also fills the stadiums but he did it as a rapper. that is just so cool.
Jk´s seven beeing the fastest song to 1 bill was also wild because it was not a kpop or korean breaking thing. it was purely fastest song in the world.

Or Jin's The Astronaut and collab with Coldplay, the first among members to collab with a Western band and became the first million seller with only one single. He also helped promote local Korean wine. His early promotions in his military service were widely reported and admired by the Korean media with the impression that this could serve as inspiration to the young men of Korea while waiting for their turn.

RM did not want to promote in the US. He did a Zach Sang interview remotely. His only US interview. No iheart, no Spotify , no Stationhead, no Today Show or GMA. No Jimmy Fallon. I think “Closer” would have climbed up the charts had it been promoted in the west. It was all English and is such a good song. But that is not what RM wanted and the label respected that. (Sometimes I think we care more about the charting than the guys themselves do.)
On the other hand you have Jungkook who basically said I’ll sing in all English and tackle the US market head on. And I’ll do all the things. And he did.
Jimin focused on special content for army’s and fun Korean shows and interviews. I would like to think he was given the same respect. I feel that since Big Hit/Hybe was formed by the literal blood, sweat and tears of BTS that they all have earned the right to do their solo music on their own terms.

Another great video & I agree with the points you've made. I liked the Usher/JK collab. I'm not a Usher fan - I know who he is by reputation but have never listened to his music. I know the boys deeply admire him as one of the "stars" they watched & listened to - so was very happy JK got the opportunity. I thought Usher's unique flare, style, and dance moves fit perfectly with JK's performance. By this point, JK has performed the song in multiple dance videos, music videos, and on live stages. Usher seemed to effortlessly glide between the "established" choro & perform some of it, but then add his own unique style. It was fantastic.

Watching “Hobipalooza” on UA-cam totally turned me into a Rap Line Stan! I hadn’t given a lot of attention to American Rappers so I didn’t feel compelled to pay much attention to BTS Rap Line. But then I saw Hobipalooza on YT and decided to just watch it for a few minutes, which turned into the entire concert and I was so geeked and hyped at the end, I immediately started searching for his MVs and then Suga’s mixtapes on iTunes and then Mr. President RM. It’s kind of crazy that it took 3 Korean rappers, rapping in a language I don’t understand, to turn me around 180 degrees into a rap lover, that shelled out big bucks to go to a rap concert (Suga) and have the best night of my life! They’ve even made me appreciate English language rappers way more (the ones whose lyrics aren’t just 100% filth).

One of the most beautiful thing about BTS music and continues to elevate their music to the next level in my opinion is that they showcase their individuality within their group music.
As we have seen they all talented, creative artists with 7 different test in music. Even the rap line - some may say it’s just rap and I would disagree. Even the rap line has innovated rap, I believe. And, this is the opinion of a 44 years old who is rooted in African music, leaves in US. Listens to all type of music from many parts of the world since being a teenager and have never liked rap.
From the very first time I heard BTS music they were not in the K-Pop category for me as it was very clear that their music lived outside of the
K-Pop box and I believe there are many Army’s who became a fan for that reason.

I think for me the best thing about BTS and 2023 (and a bit of 2022), was the staggering growth of each individual member, musically. Each released their own music, each had such a distinct voice and colour. It was different from what they had created together as a group, and yet one could see how their time in the group had given them the foundation on which to build their own individual growth. Although I can’t wait for them to regroup, I was so happy for all of them to have had the time to develop themselves this way, and also have complete agency in doing this.

You said that usher didn’t execute- that makes an assumption he was supposed to do it exactly. Frankly I don’t see Jungkook saying “you have to do it like me”. It rather “how would you like to do it? Do you want to dance together? I can show you then choose what you want- Let’s go” sometimes people do not understand the legend that usher is and how JK must have been so happy to dance with him not just have him on the track. Sometimes I think BTS is way more humble and thankful than Army. Just my thoughts

Billboard just enforced the new rule they had. Jimin got a #1 his 1st week because of sales...D2C sales, which allowed 4 copies of each version per sale. Then, BB enforced their rule. If Jimin's 1st week release had been released under the enforced new rule, he would not have gotten the #1, like how he had a big drop in week 2. Jungkook released after BB enforced that strict rule. He had the streams and sales to get the #1. JK also was up against an artist, who was being pushed by the political right in the US. It was a huge feat that JK secured the #1. Don't try to lesson JK's success, because the truth is Jimin had it a lot easier in getting that #1. There is a reason JK's #1 is talked about and viewed in a better light, and that is because against all odds he achieved that #1.

Your video was insightful, however I disagree with one assessment. Usher wasn’t dancing for execution. When performing with R&B, hip hop, free style their isn’t exact execution. It’s not based on 100% execution, but dance versatility. When it is exactly it’s a manufactured dancing and this type of dancing it’s not exact execution in this genre. Step dancing, synchronization dancing, ballet, contemporary are more exact execution dance styles. This can’t be a measure used to assess this type of dancing, dance performances based on past dances meshed together taken from Black and Brown communities in the US with a few modifications. I’m a late 50s year old fan so I’m super familiar with the dances they show in their videos and concert performances because I used to do them when dancing back in school dances or clubs when growing up.

BlackPink are influancers, performers and could be considered models however they are not artists. Their music is given to them by Teddy and the lyric's are not impactful in way it's also extremely formular driven with no scope to try anything different. Also this is may not be their fault but the companies fault. Also the company does relay far too much on media hype.

    • @AsianEntertainmentandCulture
      @AsianEntertainmentandCulture  11 місяців тому +4

@Tory7 depends on how you define impact. If you mean they are introducing something new, a new narrative or highlighting certain issues or introducing new ways to establish melody to beat storytelling or putting on a new level of melodic or lyrical complexity, there isn't any.
Blackpink's music is exactly like 2NE1's music. they are good don't get me wrong but it is not revolutionary. There is also hardly any message in it. It's almost always talking smack about others and highlighting how cool they are. There is nothing fundamentally wrong about that. many performers do it but if you talk impact, no.
If you mean they are changing something in the music industry, it's a no. They didn't change anything. At least not yet. As i've said, their music is just like 2NE1's music.
If you mean popularity, obviously they do. they are popular. I can expound on it more if you want to define what you mean by impact.

Pissed at the fact that so many people really think that Jimin was sabotaged by the company..Why am I not surprised anymore?? Only LC did good from Jimin's album..Have you seen his other songs anywhere??
Every member was in charge of their solo promotions..When RM said that he doesn't want to do big promotion instead perform in a small venue, his wish was granted..
What makes you think Jimin didn't have control of his own promotions?? Do you think he is a kid who doesn't know how the industry works and is not able to voice out his opinions??
Didn't you see how In-house producers from Bighit were heavily involved in Jimin's project like Pdogg..He basically took help from the company for his album..Do you think they would try to sabotage that?? The fact that you think so makes me believe how stupid your arguments
Why would a company whose members were heavily involved in an album try to sabotage that album?? To lose its profits?? Does that even make sense??
Mind you, Jimin has worked with Ryan Tedder, do you think that opportunity arose without the help of company??

    • @AsianEntertainmentandCulture
      @AsianEntertainmentandCulture  11 місяців тому +6

Yes, many people think that Jimin was sabotaged by the company but there are very few of them here. *There are some but not a lot*. If you would notice, many of the things we are saying is simply a dissatisfaction on the short promotion. Maybe it was Jimin's decision but it still doesn't change the fact that we are disappointed. Even if Jimin comes out and say it was his decision to do only 9 days of promotion, many would still be disappointed. I think you can compare to parents feeling like their child deserves the world. even if the child says, "i don't want the world", parents would go and say "doesn't change the fact that you deserve it". it's like that. we want everything for them. I help raise a child so I kinda know how that feels.
it's just magnified with Jimin because he got to the top of bbhot100.
Also, Set Me Free entered BBhot100. Angel did too even though he sang one verse and hardly a solo line and no radio push either. Vibe also entered BBhot100.
The other songs in the album didn't do anything because they weren't promoted which adds to the disappointment. Maybe if they were promoted, they would have done better. shoulda coulda woulda.
Another thing, Jin, Suga, Jhope, RM, Jimin, V and Jungkook are big enough now that even without Hybe, they will get opportunities. Bang himself said that. They can choose to sign with anyone and approach anyone. That's why he was so thankful that BTS decided to stay with Big Hit.
So, to answer your question on whether or not a collaboration with Tedder will happen without Hybe, my answer to your hypothetical question is 'yes'. Any of the BTS members, at this stage in their career, will be able to work with almost anyone they want even without Hybe.

As you said if Jimin could have an opportunity of his own without the company's help..All the collaborations that Jk did were also because the other party and of course Jk wanted it..Nothing was initiated or forced by the company..
Yes, Jimin said that but do we know the context?? He might be joking or even if he wanted, he might not have time for all that...Jk also said that he felt that the promotion for Seven was too short..Did we go and make a scene out of it?? The fact that people are not ready to believe the member's own words when they say that they decide their own promotion pisses me off..They act like they know what is going on behind the scenes and how unfairly the members are treated..
My bad, I forgot about Set me Free Pt.2..Angel had a lot of collaborators (Western)..According to the logic that solos apply, it went to the charts because it was a collaboration, right??
Other than V, no one promoted the B-sides..It's always like that..Jk did 2 songs in his Times Square performance and only recently released Hate you visualizer..B-sides aren't meant to be promoted like the main track..
People are allowed to be disappointed but targeting other members and saying that all their success and achievements are due to someone's involvement, does that seem fair to you?? As a fan, what we get always seems less..
What is Jk's fault here?? Is it that he wants to be a Global Popstar?? Is it that his style of music is Pop?? Is it that he had always been attracted towards English pop music (He has done the most covers of English songs out of all members)..
I have seen all the toxicity for Jk for years starting from his position of main vocalist to him getting the most lines..But now, Jimin solos have crossed the line..They are always ready to use the term PAYOLA whenever we talk about Jk's achievements without even knowing what that means..They think Remixes contribute towards streams, how stupid!!
Jungkook has always ruled spotify starting from Euphoria which is the most streamed B-side song to Left and Right and to Seven..You go to any Jk related achievement..You will always find a Jimin solo hating on him and downplaying his hard work..
Yes, there are solo toxic fans for every member and for Jk too..But that doesn't mean you disrespect the artist if you don't like their fans..

It has been just over a month and we can see how fake Ot7 armies have already made playlists excluding songs from GOLDEN..Did you see the decrease in his streams- 1 million overall??
And then when we question them, they write a pity letter and state that no one is obliged to make a Playlist consisting of someone's songs..Applying the same logic, why are we obliged to vote for other member then??

Jimin had only 9 days of promotion compare to 3months of V, 7 months of Jk. I hope you get the facts correct.

Jimin did not promote extensively in SK. He did one promotion with that one lady cozying up one. then m Countdown. canceled Inkigayo. nothing else.
V did tiny desk and knowing bros, you quiz on the block, vicinic. then japan.

@@RjlpqeQs Jk did not do 7 months of promotion. Even if you calculate after SEVEN release it's only five months. He did a wk of Seven promotions overseas. then came back and did Inkigayo one show. Then silence until 3D release. no promotion for 3D at all except for M countdown performance. then Album release on Nov 3rd with one wk of promotion in the US, one M countdown, he didn't appear on any shows and then CDTV in Japan.
V did maybe a month after his album release. He staggered the release of his songs in his album but the promotions were only for a month.

Jimin sang live in this one
      A couple of fan lives
      One with yoongi

I must be missing some I'm sure.
Of course there was the Jimmy Fallon show
WHATEVER, HE MANAGED HIS SOLO DEBUT WITH HIS OWN IDEAS AND WAS GIVEN HELP WHEN ASKED.

I think you should respect each member’s solo achievements and praise them as solo triumphs which have NOTHING to do with BTS which is a group. Please create a YT video that celebrates members’ achievements as solo artists as SEPARATE from what was achieved as a member of BTS.

That's not how BTS operates, each achievement is a group achievement, each award is a group award they are seven no jealousy among them.

@@sugakookie7985 That is exactly how Chapter 2 has been. Jimin’s LC #1 achievement should be blessed as a solo achievement. I do not see the name BTS attached to LC. Same with Jung Kook’s Seven BAK #1. No where on Billboard is that achievement categorized as BTS. JK achieved that as a SOLO artist. Suga’s rap achievements are Suga’s alone and NOT BTS. Each individual member worked too hard in this solo era to have that achievement labeled as BTS which it is not.

Billboards and charts are not everything. What matters is how the members thinks about these achievements. So far, none of the members has given the army an indication that their solo achievement is their own solo achievement but they always brings in the entire group into it. They are proud of their achievements and so are their brothers. You can see that in each of the interviews they have given. They consider these achievements as a stepping stone in their solo career but they also consider it as contribution to the next chapter as BTS as a team. Chapter 2 does not separate Namjoon, Jin, Yoongi, Hobi, Jimin , Tae and Jungkook from BTS but it emphasizes who they are and what they bring into BTS. The members considers them as BTS and loves each other regardless of their solo achievements and want to be BTS for a longer time.
