Just found your channel from Technomoan. I noticed your Prince speaker covers. For a moment i thought it was a Prince pinball game. That would be awesome. I could only imagine how awesome a Gold Experience or Purple Rain theme game would be.
Hi Joseph! Thanks for stoppin' by man! I hope you Sub and stick around for a bit - I have a lot of fun videos, and lots of good tutorials. Yeah, I had a dude make those for me with a 3D printer, they turned out great. I'd play the heck out of a Prince table, just for the music! Mirin' your Gold Experience reference, you're obviously a real Prince fan!
I would ditch the angled HDMI/USB and get ribbon cables and run them through the back. Also buy a low profile USB rather than a big long stick. Much cleaner.
Thanks for the shout out! And you pronounced my name correctly! (Not everyone can do that.) My experience with the USB cable is that shorter is better. I picked that up from one of your earlier videos. The pads of the ALP are designed to keep things steady, but that also makes the machine hard to move. I added some "magic sliders" under each leg. The result is stable enough to keep the machine from moving during gameplay, but also allows me to easily shift everything when needed. I'm on carpet, so this also helps keep the carpet from getting torn up. I'm not sure if the sliders work as well on wood or linoleum. Thinking about the key, my guess is that a "real" pinball machine has a lock and key mechanism. Atgames has gotten kudos for including a fake coin slot for verisimilitude, so an actual lock goes along with the "real arcade" look. Another great video! I'm looking forward to your take on the Taito tables due out later this week.
Something I had to learn the hard way was setting up the flash drive. Some Facebook friends in the ALP owners group helped me there. If you're just going to download the pinball tables, the thumb drive you showed is fine -- just plug it in and let the ALP do its thing. If you're wanting to add UCE (arcade game files for CoinOpsX,) then you probably want a larger capacity drive. The ALP will recommend partitioning a larger thumb drive, but doesn't offer to do it or tell you how it needs to be done! My initial setup was a smaller drive in the left USB slot for the tables and a larger drive in the right USB slot for the arcade games. Obviously, this required me to unmount the arcade drive whenever I wanted to connect my computer or controller to the ALP, which was most of the time! What the ALP doesn't tell you, but FB friends knew, is that you can partition a large capacity thumb drive on a PC (NOT MAC!) into two parts: a smaller 16gb (or so) partition for the tables and the rest of the drive in a second, larger partition for the arcade files. This allows you to have all the tables, hundreds of arcade games, and still keep the right USB port free for a controller or computer connection. The smaller partition needs to be the first created, making it the default for the FlashdriveX formatting. And it seems to only work properly when formatting the drive on a PC. I'm told the Mac formatting creates files the ALP can't recognize or deal with. What length is your angled USB cable? I'd like to try one and my ALP seems to need a shorter connection.
Good info there, Lowell - thank you! This thread alone is full of great tips from you guys. And my angled USB plug is short, like 6" It's other end is female, where the 18" USB is plugged into.
How large is the first partition ? Example. I buy a 128 gb stick first partition 16 G and the second is 112 G. For download the tables and arcade games.. right.?

As far as the key goes, I just leave it taped to the back, done. Also, for toppers, I added a 1x6, screwed to the top edge of the back of the cab (painted black) which makes a nice backboard to keep items from falling off the back.
