Considering though that family guy has one of the fastest and easiest to complete animation styles on modern T.V., I would guess that joke saved about about 15 minutes.
I'm absolutely certain they did that part of the joke specifically for people like us that upon him saying he was going to bounce it 40 times, we immediately started counting to see if it would actually be 40. The pause at 29 was to get us to at least thunk, "Hey, that was only 29 bounces...oh, okay, not done."
This joke could've been made way funnier. Show the expressions of the audience changing. Show the other guy getting himself ready to react, do an extreme closeup of the sweat on his head, his eyes shivering with focus. Show the referee just casually scrolling through facebook or something, show the ballboys looking at each other like "It's fucking hot, when will this guy END?and then the failed shot.
