Furthermore, you must place a capsule the first turn you can, unless there are no blank spaces to cover up" Lemme just say, it turns the entire board into a MINEFIELD by the end, ESPECIALLY on 50 turn games!! 10/10, would HIGHLY recommend!
1:01:48 The closest star spaces in Mario Party history are actually in Bowser’s Enchanted Inferno in Mario Party 7. On the right island, the star spaces have zero spaces between them, meaning you can get two stars in one turn by simply rolling a one. Truly the peak of board design.
But you have to roll a 1. That's not just the chances of getting a 1. It's the chances of two singular specific rolls back to back, and it's even worse if you need more than one die to get to the first one. @Checkers Well you got your reference half right. The actual reference is based off of a parody video called "The Purity of the Cards". It provides a scathing commentary over extremely questionable card balancing done in the online trading card game Hearthstone. Both the comment and the parody video reference Yugioh's often memed Exodia card setup where one must obtain 5 body parts of Exodia to win instantly. Side note, the parody video is 4 years old, so the contemporary commentary about power creep and cards from previous Hearthstone expansions seems extremely quaint now, and deserves a rewatch.
It's a tiny detail but I absolutely love the way ZoomZike says "this one!" while explaining the Star Spaces. Seems to be a running joke and it's small but it's my favorite.
After identifying my luck I discovered that I'm very lucky for having found this series. I don't even play mario party besides DS, but I love your narration.
I absolutely adore these videos I can't explain why. I've only ever played Mario Party 7 as a kid and some of the most recent ones while drunk. I have no reason to need or want to know about the old Mario Party games in excruciating detail and yet here I am again watching the same 3 hour video for like the 9th time this month.
Something cool about this game I just noticed: This is the first Mario Party game to have Toad as a playable character, so you could have a game where the four players are Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Toad, the same four playable characters as in Super Mario Bros. 2, and both of these games are dream-themed.

When Bowser hands you the ztar in bowser bonus. Their is a chance that the ztar will rip apart to reveal it was actually a real star. Earning you a star rather than taking a star. Browser laments at this and asks where the ztar went. When this happens. There is also a small chance of any star in play till it's revealed could actually be the ztar and you end up paying 20 coins to LOSE YOUR STAR. Turning the entire star gathering principle on its entire head where saying no could mean the difference between a major setback or not and one of the few methods that make a negative star count possible in the game since a hidden ztar can be purchased by anyone.
@@SuperMario.1 I don't think stars can become ztars in the party mode. Source: Mario party 5 was my childhood mario party and it's still my go to mario party. Stars can become ztars in the card party mode though.
@@MG-mq3zf I do remember a Ztar becoming a Star in Card Party mode. But that bring a very, very rare thing to happen. Even more than a Star becoming a Ztar.
After watching this video, I was inspired to go back to Mario Party 5 for the first time in 10 years, and the very first game I played after the long hiatus resulted in me having 0 stars for three quarters of the game, and somehow managing to accumulate over 200 coins up until the second to last turn, where Bowser's last 5 turn gimmick resulted in Chance popping out in a drunken stupor, reeming out the leader; an Intense Mario CPU, to cheese a win for me. It's at this point where I realised that Mario Party is likely even more wack if you have friends.
@@candiedCoder this is a talk between me and zoomzike I want to be friends with him he is a nice guy I'm just letting him know what happening with my channel

This Mario Party was always my favorite because of it's dream theme and the fact that the Star Spirits host the modes. I know it's hated because of the Capsules being random traps that can help or hurt anyone and the Orbs are superior but I adore Mario Party 5 as it is a special childhood game to me and seeing a detailed analysis of it is a dream come true!
To me, I'm more of the opposite. Mario Parties 6 and 7 may often have orbs with coins inside of them, while Mario Party 5 has nothing! Well, except for the coin block capsule. I was thinking that Mario Party 5 and Mario Parties 6 and 7 (even separate) can be pretty unbalanced with the coin values. Because I was fond of the coin fee (capsule used on yourself) and capsules being tossed onto a space, the orbs in Mario Parties 6 and 7 made me pretty uncomfortable, even though I imagined Mario Party Koopaling Journey with the returned orbs.
As an April fools joke you should do a chapter on the 3ds games, it's fun to see how they demolish most if not all of the strategy these games are well know for.
Idk why but I always come back to this series whenever I go to sleep. I feel like ive listen to this series for 50+ hours now without me knowing since I'm asleep and I've been doing this for months lmao. But man just watching the videos with visuals feels much better and it made me realize how much effort really went to this series so kudos to that!!!
Fantastic video! Mario Party 5 was my favorite growing up, even as someone that was horrible at button mashing! Also, I’m fairly certain the idea behind DK Mini-Games is that DK is paying the players for all the bananas they collected for him.
"He's finally here, performing for you, It's the-" That activated my fight-or-flight response. I'm not even joking, I thought he was just going to start singing for a second
Seriously such an underrated and amazing series of videos! Everytime an Identifying Luck video appears in my recommended or sub feed, I instantly want to watch the whole video to learn about these awesome tips and tricks for the Mario Party games I grew up with. So much effort is shown on these videos and I really hope more and more people see that. Keep it up ZoomZike :D
This is partially why I kind of like Mario Party 5. The capsule system is just so interesting. It really makes me want to buy the game instead of just emulating it with my bro occasionally.
It was always weird that the "Toady" capsule in this game was called the "Magikoopa" capsule despite it not looking like a Magikoopa at all (especially with the Kamek capsule as Kamek himself is an actual named character in the series not something that can be multiple characters of). Glad 6 fixes this issue.
FANTASTIC JOB with this, man. That's some amazing dedication right there. One thing I also don't like about 5 is how obvious it was that they didn't have enough 1v3 ideas so they crammed what should've been 2v2 minigames into a 1v3 format. For example, it's laughable how obvious it is that Curvy Curbs should've been 2v2.
The ending brought a tear to my eye. When we were kids everything seems so magical and so perfect. How I wish I could go back to being a kid where everything seems like that, at least for one day.
I watched this at least twice start to end and I didn’t realize all the maps ended in dream until looking at all the time stamps 😂 Except for Bowser’s nightmare. How funny would it be if that was dream too? “Oh yeah I’ma play Bowser’s Dream!”
This game wasnt my first Mario Party, but it is still my most beloved one. I cant understand how i can still remember almost all maps and Minigames years after i played it as a kid and have been on a decline on playin Mario Party games after they introduced the cart.
This was my first Mario Party too! In fact, it was my first video game. This game introduced me to one of my favorite franchises that I now hold very dearly and still play regularly
As someone who has been a part of the DDR community for about 15 years, seeing piguy's name being mentioned for something that isn't Stealth AAA's is so cool. Let's go piguy!
Dang this was a good one. Not much to add here as you represented the balancing issues with both the Minigames and the boards really well. this is probably my favorite Identifying Luck since MP 1
It's funny - I've only played Mario Party Advance. But every time I see a new Identifying Luck video, I sit through a feature-film length investigation of a game I've never played, and, probably, will never play. Thank you for making these, and thank you for sharing your passion and energy with us. Here's hoping for a better 2021.
I just discovered these and have watched almost all of them over the course of the day. Mario Party 6 is my favorite one out of the whole series, can't wait for it!
Man I hadn't heard of this channel before but a random UA-cam recommend and now I'm binging the whole series... love these videos, you've earned a new sub!
As someone who grew up with MP5 and recently started getting into the endless, yawning abyss of competitive Mario Party thanks to this series, that ending really resonated with me. It was easy for me to tell why I didn't like 4 when I was younger, with the boards actively taking agency away from you, random mushrooms flooding your inventory, the clunkiness of things like mini mushroom gates, but all the flaws of 5 went totally over my head, and was what sold me on the series ever since. It's the only game in the series that, upon revisiting, I had a total opinion 180 on in regards to the title's Party Mode (SWEET DREAM IS SO AWFUL OH MY GOODNESS), and it really was a shame to see, but at the same time, it helped me remember that it was definitely the aesthetic and side content of this game that I had the most nostalgia for, and I still enjoyed both in equal measure, even as a jaded, grown up, Mario Party tryhard. Another fantastic video nonetheless, ZoomZike, and I definitely can't wait to see the deep dive into 6!
hey i just want to say i appreciate this series so much, i’m getting my friend group back into mario party right now (even have my girlfriend playing with me) and these videos have been a treat. you’re basically making 2 full length movies on each game and i just wanted you to know they’re very much appreciated! keep up the good work and can’t wait for the next identify luck video.
I have played these games during my childhood and teenage years so much that I feel like just listening to the videos explaining luck is the same experience. You have a really nice voice to listen to.
My roommates played this game with me once. Exactly once about a year ago. They mentioned a few days ago trying it again. This video could not have come at a better time. Thank you, ZoomZike. Time to ruin some friendships armed with new knowledge.
The sentimental feeling you tell us about at the end, that's what I feel for 6, so I'm super excited for the next one! 5 is also extremely special in my heart too, those two are the main ones I grew up on. my very first one was 2 tho :)
Mario Party 5 was my first one too! I think there's something about the presentation that made it seem really magical. I remember being a much bigger fan of the other modes than board game mode, though; it was more like I tolerated the board game so I could get to the mini-games.
On Sunday will be the 1 year anniversary of this video, and a year of waiting for my favorite Mario Party to be thoroughly analyzed. The longer I have to wait the more excited I am. I can't wait to see if you've discovered the same quirks that I have, to see things I've yet to know, or to maybe even see you state something counteractive to a fact that I know, causing me to retest things. Please oh Please hurry Mr. ZZ
ZoomZike has blessed us with another bombshell of a video. These videos are incredibly detailed and very useful! I'll even fall asleep to these videos sometimes so they're useful in more ways than one!
Fantastic video as always! Mario Party 5 was the first video game I ever got to play, let alone my first Mario Party. Despite it's flaws, this game means a lot to me. It's aesthetic is the best in the series (imo), I love the Star Spirits despite not playing Paper Mario yet. This game is also a big contributer as to why I associate myself with the Boos on the internet. Not to mention all the countless memories I have playing this game with my family, which I still do to this day. Thanks to anyone who read my silly comment all they way to the end :)

omg mario party 5 was your first one too?? not gonna lie, i've been looking forward to this video since you uploaded the first introductory video to the identifying luck series. absolutely phenomenal work! also, card party really is the best mode in the game. the music slaps so hard as well.
I love the Identifying Luck videos so much! They are just perfect for me to fall asleep too! (That's supposed to be a compliment) The tone and pacing is really nice and consistent, and the content is that perfect level of interesting where my brain doesn't think about other stuff because it isn't engaging enough and doesn't extrapolate tons because it is too engaging. These are just the perfect videos and I'm super grateful for them.
I was so hyped for this and basically shrieked when I saw it on my feed. Never thought I’d be watching like 3 hour long videos about freaking Mario Party and actually get hyped for them. Boy do I love how you do these videos. Can’t wait for my favorite Mario Party of all time, MP6 next!
Fun fact: When you land on a bowser space, the game does not immediately check if the player has stars. Instead, it first chooses an event, and then if it's bowser bonus and the player has no stars, it will change the event to bowser revolution. Meaning, if you land on the space with no stars, bowser revolution actually has a 50% chance of being chosen.
this is the mario party i grew up with, spent dozens if not hundreds of hours playing with my brother, and despite its flaws, i'll always think of it fondly
Me and 3 others have been playing this game many times in the past month or two. Huge nostalgia, and I’m glad we’ve found a way to replay it again... and then this shows up. Hahahaha!
I was really hype for this, and I relate to Zoomzike's summary of Mario Party 5 a lot. Mario Party 5 was my first Mario party game, hell, my first game that wasn't on the Game Boy. I had never seen a real 3D game up until that point, and I was stunned with awe when I first started to play it. I also really liked the Star Spirits, and only a few years ago I learned they were from Paper Mario, which is a really cool game in itself. The game was really fun and I saw nothing wrong with it too, even though I hated some of the mini-games and boards (cough *Sweet Dream* cough) I was still having fun. And now that I know all of its flaws and overlooks, I'm shocked how I didn't notice them when I was playing. The extra modes were also really cool, the vehicle one in Skolar's garage is where I spent most of my time. Alright, thank you for coming to my TED Talk, gift bags are in the lobby next to the main doors. Have a good night everybody!
Finally getting around to these after expressing great interest in yer intro video from what feels like an eternity ago now. Caught up to 5 which is my favorite so I’m loving the deep dive here. You are an actual hero for making these
I've been thinking about doing an identifying luck video for Mario Party DS, though it would be scary trying to get footage for all of it. That said, I think that doing it in the style of the videos you've been doing for these other games would be a huge fun project to do!
@@Commander-peepers it takes a lot. I'm only a beginner at UA-cam, so my editing skills aren't exactly the best. I might have to use an emulator just so I can get footage, and it would be a nightmare writing a long script for the whole thing, let alone breaking everything down. It would be cool to collaborate with someone to make something like this.

Turning the entire star gathering principle on its entire head where saying no could mean the difference between a major setback or not and one of the few methods that make a negative star count possible in the game since a hidden ztar can be purchased by anyone.
I think you may have mixed up the main game and card party mode
@@hyperfairy7779 Bowser doesn't appear in card party.
Edit: turns out he does.
Yeah, you are thinking of Card Party. Not Party Mode.
I can only imagine the headache he’ll have trying to do Mario Party 6, with all the different board mechanics and all. And I can’t wait.

Ah yes, the first Mario Party game where DK can’t pummel you. I’m sure you’d love this one
I like how Mario will float up ladders while his ass is burning to a crisp
As an April fools joke you should do a chapter on the 3ds games, it's fun to see how they demolish most if not all of the strategy these games are well know for.
Star Rush at least contains some strategy in it's Toad Scramble mode, at least compared to the other 3DS games.
As an April fools joke, he should do mario parties 9 and 10. They demolish even more strategy.
I love how ZZ makes mario party seem like crusader kings in terms of strategy 🤣
Idk why but I always come back to this series whenever I go to sleep.
I feel like ive listen to this series for 50+ hours now without me knowing since I'm asleep and I've been doing this for months lmao. But man just watching the videos with visuals feels much better and it made me realize how much effort really went to this series so kudos to that!!!
Fantastic video! Mario Party 5 was my favorite growing up, even as someone that was horrible at button mashing! Also, I’m fairly certain the idea behind DK Mini-Games is that DK is paying the players for all the bananas they collected for him.
"Maybe you're playing with honest folks. Or maybe you're playing with people who have watched this video"

Me: "Mom, can we go watch the Mario movie?"
Mom: "No, we have the Mario movie at home."
The Mario Movie at Home:
But this Mario movie is better?.....
I dont think you understand the format... the thing at home is supposed to be worse

Something to keep me entertained while I workout, clean around the house, AND crochet!? Bruh, thats a lot of hard work.
I watched this at least twice start to end and I didn’t realize all the maps ended in dream until looking at all the time stamps 😂
Except for Bowser’s nightmare. How funny would it be if that was dream too? “Oh yeah I’ma play Bowser’s Dream!”
2:38:36 "On the disaster side of things, Dont choose Fate's Decision"

This game wasnt my first Mario Party, but it is still my most beloved one. I cant understand how i can still remember almost all maps and Minigames years after i played it as a kid and have been on a decline on playin Mario Party games after they introduced the cart.
HE HITS US WITH THE MARIO PARTY 5 OUT OF NO WHERE WOOOOOO
Also it isn't 5 hours ahhhhh 🥴
This was my first Mario Party too! In fact, it was my first video game. This game introduced me to one of my favorite franchises that I now hold very dearly and still play regularly
Yesssssss, you finally said Mario party in the intro again.
This title deserves it :)
Listening to you describe the almost pixel differences between 3 rainbows is probably the highlight of my day.
Man I hadn't heard of this channel before but a random UA-cam recommend and now I'm binging the whole series... love these videos, you've earned a new sub!
That Sweet Dream rant was gold! I never realized how busted that was.
New year is starting off well seeing this in my feed!
The fact that we'll eventually run out of MP games makes me sad.
Yeah he only has two more to go since he's only doing 1-7
hey i just want to say i appreciate this series so much, i’m getting my friend group back into mario party right now (even have my girlfriend playing with me) and these videos have been a treat. you’re basically making 2 full length movies on each game and i just wanted you to know they’re very much appreciated! keep up the good work and can’t wait for the next identify luck video.
It feels very fast for 5 to be out! Absolutely amazing quality and wonderful editing as always
Thank you!
I have played these games during my childhood and teenage years so much that I feel like just listening to the videos explaining luck is the same experience. You have a really nice voice to listen to.
Third time rewatching this series right now, excited for Identifying Luck in Mario Party 6!
i’ve binged watched this entire series 5 times while waiting for the next one i try to watch them all between installments
Man, thanks for these videos! It's crazy how much I learn every time I watch one
The "MARIO PARTY !!" in the openning is finally back !
5 and 2 have always been my favorite mario party games, nice to see an identifying luck video for my favorite.
I love how a lot of the "trap the solo player/team of tree" starts are exactly the opposite of the enemy team strategy
This is the game where I hate the gameplay (orbs are too weird) but love most of the mini games.
Mario party 4 and 5 just inject nostalgia right into my veins, thank you so much!
ZZ
all spaces becoming capsule spaces is my favorite last 5 turns event, it's so bonkers and chaotic and fun
ZoomZike has blessed us with another bombshell of a video. These videos are incredibly detailed and very useful! I'll even fall asleep to these videos sometimes so they're useful in more ways than one!
This was my favorite gamecube Mario Party, and probably my most-played overall growing up! glad to see it getting the in-depth analysis it deserves.
These are gripping to watch. Can't wait for Mario Party 6! That was my favorite by a longshot and I would love to see how much there is to discover
"bowser takes everyone coins and distributes them equaly"
bowser is a comunist confirmed
He’s been a communist since the first game.
Real Communism would have Bowser steal all of everyone's coins and stars then remove 1st from the game permanently.
But that's not as funny.
This is my favorite mario party. I personally felt the amount of content in it when I was a kid was insane. This and 3 are the GOATs imo.

omg mario party 5 was your first one too?? not gonna lie, i've been looking forward to this video since you uploaded the first introductory video to the identifying luck series. absolutely phenomenal work!
also, card party really is the best mode in the game. the music slaps so hard as well.
Would love to see one of these about 8, it's the one I'm most nostalgic for!
I think I left the Head Waiter section with some kind of psychology degree.
I was so hyped for this and basically shrieked when I saw it on my feed. Never thought I’d be watching like 3 hour long videos about freaking Mario Party and actually get hyped for them. Boy do I love how you do these videos. Can’t wait for my favorite Mario Party of all time, MP6 next!
happy one year anniversary to this video
Fun fact: When you land on a bowser space, the game does not immediately check if the player has stars. Instead, it first chooses an event, and then if it's bowser bonus and the player has no stars, it will change the event to bowser revolution. Meaning, if you land on the space with no stars, bowser revolution actually has a 50% chance of being chosen.
The Identifying Luck series is one of my favourite on youtube. Thanks for the hours of informative entertainment!
this is the mario party i grew up with, spent dozens if not hundreds of hours playing with my brother, and despite its flaws, i'll always think of it fondly
"Astro-logical, one of my favourites!"

Just wanted to say I loved that Hotel Mario reference in Hotel Goomba. It cracked me up real good!
I've been thinking about doing an identifying luck video for Mario Party DS, though it would be scary trying to get footage for all of it. That said, I think that doing it in the style of the videos you've been doing for these other games would be a huge fun project to do!
Kinda sad you didn’t make the video
@@Commander-peepers it takes a lot. I'm only a beginner at UA-cam, so my editing skills aren't exactly the best. I might have to use an emulator just so I can get footage, and it would be a nightmare writing a long script for the whole thing, let alone breaking everything down. It would be cool to collaborate with someone to make something like this.
