Karl definitely had more creative output at Fendi then he did at Chanel. Chanel has a format to follow and he’s reinvented that same format for years but his creativity shined while working for Fendi who doesn’t necessarily follow a format. To be a designer and making sure that two iconic brands that you’re working for do not end up blending or showing similarity to each other is a pretty cool talent that he showed throughout his life. He will be missed as a creative genius
Karl's silhouettes for both houses are very similar and focused on generally an older client. Old enough that i find it hard for it to sell to a younger generation unless it's bags and shoes. His work for the last ten years especially for both houses, imo are more conservative and less revolutionary than his work for the earlier decades at chanel and fendi. This collection reads more rtw than couture which says something about the quality of work. Needless to say, he has more designers or techinical team people making his job easier these few years.
You are totally right, and totally wrong. Neither would achieve what they did without the other. If the initial idea and drive is not behind the workshops, they won't come up with anything worthy. You need the genius of creation, and the talent of craftmanship.
