  • Jing is the expression of energy (qi) through a channel or via a specific structure or shape. This video shows detailed and intricate training methods to develop qi for a particular jing in the Bagua Kuntao Silat martial art system, and it is called Striking Palm Jing. When practiced diligently and trained properly, Striking Palm is a staple strike in Bagua Kuntao Silat that can be used for a variety of techniques as it can rapidly change into any other palm method with just a thought, therefore, almost instantly.
Practicing Striking Palm Qigong and Jing is a fundamental building block, much like the Foundational Qigong method. However, this training and method builds upon the previous Foundational Qigong practice and teaches the practitioner how enhance the practice, use the breath in a particular way, and learn more about energy.
Peng Jing is mentioned as a building block for Striking Jing, or "Da Jing". The structure to channel qi to strike another as a hit or impact.
As mentioned on the video, just fifteen minutes on each side building up to thirty minutes on each side for an hour total. This will allow the student to relax, sink, gain root, expand in awareness mental and physically and feel the energy to channel it appropriately. The breath starts out as in the Foundational Qigong, but then moves below the practitioner as energy to expand the body and the root while breathing in. The actual physical body breathes as it always has, but the Bagua Kuntao Silat student is now beginning to move energy actively and channel it for use. The more relaxed the student, the greater the results. Ultimately, the goal is to stay relaxed as possible while actually resisting, striking and sparring an opponent.
The three main tests for proper practice shown in the video are pushing against a stable object after a strike and the force pushing the practitioner deeper into the ground; having a training partner pushing against the extended arm that is striking while staying relaxed and the striker is unmoved, or being pushed deeper in the ground while maintaining just enough tension to stay upright, no hard muscles or straining; and lastly, striking quarter sheet of newspaper hanging by one point, not by the two corners but a piece of tape, a thread or pinched between the fingers of a partner, while using the entire palm and moving so quickly with the entire body that the hand tears through the paper. Not a simple hole made with the fingers, but the entire hand tears through showing the outline of the fingers and palm.
The tests should only be performed after approximately a month of qigong practice to avoid discouragement and ensure enough energy is moving properly.
Bagua Kuntao Silat is kung fu that works!
