    Very good segment. Looks like some intimidating bowls.
    Was wondering what happened to this place. I remember when it first opened, with all these promises how China would support a whole generation of new skaters. Well, I the park is hard to get to (its 20 min from subway which is 20+ min from downtown, more than an hr from airport), relatively expensive (5 yrs ago it was about $12 day - well beyond the reach of average Chinese youth) and randomly closed. And now I see it was also never maintained. What a waste. But some great skating and excellent quality vid.

    I was there 13 years ago when the park was in beautiful condition and there was not a single skater there. If no one uses it, what's the point of maintaining it? What a waste.

    • @SixWheelsDown

      i thought the same thing. its obvious no ones maintaining that place.

      @@SixWheelsDown From the website: In March 2004, Convic was commissioned to create the world’s largest skate park: an ambitious $25 million, 13,000m2 project. Convic’s brief for the project was: “It had to be the biggest, it had to be the best and had to be the most innovative”.
      A $25 million skate park going to sh*t.

      Use it or lose it. Maybe too gnarly for the locals? I remember the large bowl at Auckland NZ's Manukau Skatopia in 1978/79/80 gives off similar vibes. The 3/4 pipe here is insane and a fantastic 'sphere' bowl. If they'd used stainless pipe or polypropylene for the coping the rust rot would be eliminated.

    • @CrapKerouac
      @CrapKerouac 8 місяців тому +1

      @@rickh3714 Sure, skating is in its infancy in China, and here you have this superpark, when many are learning the fundamentals and maybe the entrance fee is prohibitive, it's 4.50 USD on weekdays and 7.50 USD on weekends? Not everyone in Shanghai has money.
      Edit: I should add, as someone that spent some time in China, it's not uncommon to hear of corruption scandals where a percent of the maintenance budget is stolen, and things aren't correctly maintained and fall apart.
