I watched this one with a big grin. Damn, it's a mean deck. I love it. You've got to clear this deck with your group indeed, so nasty! edit: Just noticed your whole channel is budget EDH, subscribed!
Just a note that Plaguecrafter (and similar cards) will sacrifice itself if you dont have any other creatures on the table you want to sacrifice (so you never have to sacrifice Jon to it unless you want to for some reason). I had no idea about the Tel Jilad Stylus! Im building a Jon deck and going to try to include this somehow, seems like a great safety net but also a great way to turn the tides on the last player when you get to the 1v1 situation. Im also thinking of including Scroll Of Fate so that all my scary monsters come in as vanilla 2/2s in case they are able to remove Jon somehow before his trigger goes off then im not stuck with something gross on my side (and i can just pay the mana cost once Jon's trigger is on the stack)
I was thinking of playing this deck but only with creatures with shadow and unblockable and some wincons, in casual it seems more fun for me and the others to have creatures that do not prevent others from playing and see how they all stick together causing me to have a lot of draw engine .
I use this deck often. It’s more geared towards targeted shutdown if someone is popping off. I think it’s important to note that equipment can play a big part of its strategy. I have a few including sword of hearth and home and just added Nissas animist as the effect from attacking or damaging will trigger for me even if it’s equipped to a creature I give away. It can severely help with card draw and other effects. And if you don’t want a creature to attack you can include equipment like cement shoes. I also added the background enchantment cultist of the absolute so I can give Jon himself away. It makes for an interesting interaction.
That's a very unique take on this deck, I love that. Adding swords would be a great way to upgrade this deck!! I love running the swords in my personal decks, so I might have to try that in this as well :)
I run an almost identical list to this. I have removed the VERY mean cards like steel golem as they tend to be all or nothing. If you get to donate him to a creature deck they are blocked out of the game and not participate (which is kinda sad really) and if you don't have Jon its pretty much a dead card in you hand. At least with the other creatures I can still function with them on the battlefield. Jon is 100% fun to play but incredibly difficult to actually win with but rewarding as you need a lot of politics to survive.
That’s interesting. I was contemplating steel golem a lot but decided to add it as it’s just a decklist and anyone can choose to keep or remove it, but I totally understand your perspective as well. My idea to win with Jon was to give the creatures to someone who has low health then get all the “sacrifice your other creatures” cards back now that they can’t be sacrificed and win that way. I can see how actually executing that could be difficult tho! Thanks for the comment :)
Just a quick thing to note effects that force a creature to be sacrificed if a condition is not met e.g. Phyrexian Soulgorger the game actually enters a state-based action loop where the soulgorger has to be sacrificed but then it can’t due to Jon Irenicus’s effect leading the game to end in a draw
I just watched a judge ruling on this, and don’t think that’s actually true. If you choose not to pay the cumulative upkeep cost, nothing happens, because it can’t be sacrificed. This does mean our opponents don’t have to pay it either, though.
@@v0idmtgOk so I did a little digging and I see it works as you say since it’s an upkeep trigger it doesn’t forcefully try to remove the creature. I guess I got a little excited thinking I found another card to add to my own Jon Irenicus deck where the sole purpose of the deck is to force games into draws with cards like Manta Ray that have Islandhome since those kinds of card DO act in the way I mentioned previously assuming it’s not given to someone with an island since it causes a state based action response whereas the soulgorger is just a upkeep trigger
@@v0idmtg At least someone thinks so (I never get to play it because all my friends hate it though can’t say I don’t understand why it takes very little to “end the game” aka cause a draw) the deck is very consistent because you just get Jon out and then play any creature with Islandhome and bam you’ve done the forced draw thing assuming no interactions
While I see that this got clarified already I thought I should point out that there are a bunch of creatures that WILL cause a draw if gifted away, e.g. Bronze Bombshell. Because that one doesn't just trigger once on upkeep, it triggers anytime a player other than the owner controls it, so it will create infinite triggers on the stack. Buuuutt, I have to agree with your friends, bringing a deck which explicitly is trying not to win is not playing the game, so I also wouldn't want to play against it. While I think the main aim should be to have fun, the only way to do that is it everyone is at least trying to win in some capacity, otherwise it ruins the game for everyone else while still guaranteeing you have the worst win% at the table.

Definitely one of the more unique decks out there, I'll have to try it out!
Thanks, Jacob!

Super unique strategy for this deck, looks awesome.
Thanks Luke!
really helpful video for those wanting to make budget decks, thank you!!!

I also didn't know about Elgaud Shielmate, might get a copy of it too! (Which would also potentially be good for my Sefris Of The Hidden Ways deck)
Hello guys, good news today. v0id uploafed a new video. Very happy for this uploaf today.
Thanks, Plank from the hit show Ed, Edd n Eddy

Yeah that is very valid. These types of builds def aren’t for everyone and that’s totally ok ;)
I'm planning on a thought vessel deck with creatures that reduce hand size with Irenicus as the commander
That’s sick!
@@v0idmtg well it's fitting for the character and I'm also planning on clone and clone legion
@@user-KS-13 I love that. Let me know how it goes
@@v0idmtg I'm still in the building phase
Nice video! Very well done
Thanks, Gabe!
Very informative
Thank you Gandre
Fun funky deck, nice job. One thing that could improve the vid is adding the card prices under each image

What's the best way to deal with opponents once you are 1v,1? Goading is useless here
Once a player dies you gain control of their creatures you gave them so you will swing out with those
Niiiiiiice
thanks peyton!! :)
what is the win con tho? if it is just you and one other player how do you finish the game?
Ohhhkay, that's interesting. Now there's a deck where I can use my Eyes?
Haha yes!
Hey can you make a budget animar deck please
Jon is absolutely not close to competitive whatsoever
and?? It’s a budget deck lol
