10. Nations The Dice Game (1:36) 09. Ancient Terrible Things (3:02) 08. Capo de Capi (6:13) 07. Favor of the Pharaoh (9:04) 06. Colony (11:12) 05. CV (13:44) 04. Roll Through the Ages (15:30) 03. Tiny Epic Galaxies (18:27) 02. Roll Player (20:35) / Sagrada (22:25) 01. Roll For The Galaxy (24:20) Favor of the Pharaoh is underrated in the board game community in my opinion. The endgame is always really tense. Maybe a top ten tense games some day? Would be interesting.
The great thing about the board game industry at present is the huge variety available. There really is something for everyone out there. Quite a few of our favourite dice chuckers didnt make your list Rhado. We love Celestia, Discoveries, Pandemic the Dice Game and Steampunk Rally (as well as RTTA and Sagrada!).
Just ordered Roll for the Galaxy couple of days ago, can't wait to play it! Have to order the expansion soon as well when I am sold. Wanted some fresh dice game in my collection. Appreciate all your videos Rahdo and your commentary, I mainly buy the games on your reviews. :-)
Richard! Ok, here we go: I was expecting you to include Quantum. I bought it after seeing your play through but then I remembered that Jane and you didn't like the constant combat... What a pity... Thanks for your excellent, entertaining way of presenting all those games!
Drew Fletcher in case you want some more suggestions - Machi Koro, Dice City, Las Vegas/Vegas Dice Game, King of Tokyo, Bang the dice game and one to watch for Dice Age the Hunt. As mentioned Sagrada & Roll for the galaxy are also really good. Favor of the Pharaoh is on my to get list. Cheers. 😃👍
Thank you so much for these recent top 10s. I have been able to find the perfect games for us. Can't wait for Colony and Apocalypse Chaos to arrive soon. I want Roll Player, Sagrada and Roll for the Galaxy too.
My favorite dice game is probably Fuse, but it's such a stressful little game I usually can only play it once before putting it away for the night. I'll have to check out some of these.
I think the image for this video might be of one of Tony Cragg's sculptures, which are awesome. I went to see an exhibition at Yorkshire Sculpture Park a few weeks back and loved it. We did take a few photos of the dice one, of course.
1 Roll Player 2 La Granja: No Siesta 3 Steam Park 4 Roll for the Galaxy 5 Pandemic: The Cure 6 Dice City 7 OctoDice 8 Roll Through the Ages 9 Rattlebones 10 Las Vegas With Honorable Mentions to: It Happens… Artifacts, Inc. Dungeon Roll Arena: Roma II Dice Town CV
I absolutely adore Sagrada, and I looooove Roll Player so much. I should probably drop one of them from my collection since they both have that puzzley dice drafting gameplay, but...I just can't... Mostly because my sister would kill me if I got rid of Sagrada... One dice game that I enjoy and feel gets a bit neglected is Blueprints, another dice drafting game with puzzley elements (hmmm). Where do you feel it would land in your rankings of dice games?
wow the end of that video was tense after number 2. I kinda knew it would be Roll for the Galaxy but I was sure Escape would be number two. looking forward to the podcast.
Thanks Rahdo. In no particular order and off the top of my head I enjoy these games Champions of Midgard Roll Through the Ages King of Tokyo/New york Kingsport Festival Favor of the Pharaoh Elder Sign Dice City BANG! The Dice Game Tumblin' Dice D-Day Dice Ninja Dice El Gaucho
Would recommend simple but fun dice game Age of War, especially with variations found on BGG: special set powers, tokens & a lethal extra 'Infiltration' card. And, yes, the box is TINY!
I would say Duell an ancient (1970s) by boardgame standards which uses dice in a unique fashion needs an honorary mention ....from BGG site - Each player controls nine over-sized dice on a 8x9 board and in turn moves one of their dice the number of spots indicated by its uppermost face. Movement is carried out by 'tumbling' the dice from space to space. Opponent's pieces can be captured by landing on them with an exact count. Players also have a key piece (a die marked with a star on each side) which can only ever move one space at a time. The game is over when one player's key piece is captured, or a key piece moves onto the opposing player's key space (the key piece starting square). --- basically chess with dice
why ppl keep asking "how come no such game" or "how come no that game?" its not like you will come up with a game, and rahdo will go, "omfg, i totally forgot about that game, its definitely top 10!" even if he did forget, he will just say "oh its top 15, not top 10" no point in asking these stupid questions.
The reason these questions are asked is because after one has watched a number of his videos one gets a feeling for his taste in boardgames and are therefore naturally curious when he comes up with some surprising choices. It's perfectly normal to wonder why one game is chosen over another, and the only way to learn why is to ask.
Yes, but people enjoy watching his videos and are interested in hearing his personal reasons for game "A" over game "B" as there are a good many people who make purchasing decisions based on these. What was it that inspired that personal choice? People who have a shared mutual interest in a given subject take pleasure in discussing their personal choices with each other.
There isn't much information out there at this stage but according to Alea it's being released in Gemany in August. if you type in the German title there are a few websites advertising it but no pics yet except for the prototype ones from a few years ago.
I might be wrong, but I don't think Rahdo is a huge fan of that expansion. It certainly uses a lot of roll to resolve, which he is not generally a fan of.
Wow. I'm really surprised that 'Pandemic: The Cure' didn't make it into this list :O But I'm sure it was an incredibly tough list to compile. By the way, did you ever explain anywhere how to fit 'Ancient Terrible Things' into its expansion box? (I assume it involves cutting the board from the base game)
did you ever tried the game "Fuse"? Its a dice game where you have 10 realtime minutes to get rid of the bombs in front of you. You can play it solo but you can play it with up to 5 players. It's coop and choosing your strategy as a group to overcome all thoses bombs... it's fast, it's fun and it's a communication game.. and you only have 10 minutes... boom!
Agreed. They not only represent your character level, luck of combat success, and special power but sometime make agonizing decisions as to whether you invoke a special power that makes you lose those special power dice. My current favorite hands down.
Take it out of the box then! I'm such a strong proponent of them (no affiliation). If you'd like I will design a standard size laser cut box with insert and send it to you. You can then keep it if it's good or sell/charity if it's not to your tastes..
My current faves are Zombies! Roll Them Bones and BANG! The dice Game. I house ruled solo-2player variations I have to upload vids on sometime. It changes how the dice are played and what the 2 bullseye means. Not sure if Star wars destiny qualifies but I just got into it. Does D&D count lol
if someone wants to compile a list of them, i'll be happy to copy/paste it into the description. there used to be a guy who actually gave me the time stamp for when i started talking about each topic, and i would past those in too :)
I understand I failed to realize that you just wanted to share your personal tastes in dice games, but in the scope of any Rahdo Top 10, which is why we are all commenting here, we have to consider how a game plays with two players.
i bet it's great, and they offered to send me a review copy, but i said 'no' largely because i didn't want another gigantic box with my limited shelf space
#1 has me surprised, according to BGG it doesn't play well with just 2 players. Which I only ever get to play, but will have to reconsider now cause it does seem like a good game.
Can you do a run through of Ancient Terrible Things? I'm looking for something like a fantasy level up cooperative game that is small. I need a small game because I go backpacking into the wilderness with friends. I have to pack lite and only bring the essentials. As far as I'm concerned, games are essential ;) any advice? I love your channel brother!
i have done a runthrough a few years ago. just do a search for rahdo ancient terrible things and you'll find it. small backpack coop? i'd probably go with pandemic the cure or or tiny epic defenders. actually, this month i'll be doing a top 10 games to play in a restaurant, which requires very small table space, so that might help you out.
Hey Rahdo. Alea iacta est. You did a run-through a few years ago where You say that it is probably your favorit dice game. Why is that not on your list?
Wow, a Top 10 List that didn't attack my wallet lol. Not that there weren't some interesting games that I'll keep an eye our for (Roll Player, Sagrada) but for once I didn't feel an irresistible urge to place an order. Yikes, mellowing in my old age. ;)
I mean, it's your list so you can do whatever you want, but once I heard that this list didn't include board games at all I stopped watching. These are just not at all my kind of game. But I was looking forward to a list of dice-centric board games.

Favor of the Pharaoh is underrated in the board game community in my opinion. The endgame is always really tense. Maybe a top ten tense games some day? Would be interesting.
i've got a topic very similar to that on the list of possibles already! :)
thanks for the timestamps, shownotes updated!
I'd love to see an updated 2022 of this! I love dice/dice games!
feels like something we might hit on the R&R show before too long :)
Just ordered Roll for the Galaxy couple of days ago, can't wait to play it! Have to order the expansion soon as well when I am sold. Wanted some fresh dice game in my collection. Appreciate all your videos Rahdo and your commentary, I mainly buy the games on your reviews. :-)
Excellent list. I have now added two games to my but list that I was teetering on (Colony and Sagrada). Thanks and keep up the great work!
Richard! Ok, here we go: I was expecting you to include Quantum. I bought it after seeing your play through but then I remembered that Jane and you didn't like the constant combat... What a pity... Thanks for your excellent, entertaining way of presenting all those games!
Ooohhhhh! I'm excited to watch this. We're new to gaming and I've been looking to get more games with dice in them.
Cheers. 😃👍

4 on the Rahdo best dice rollers I own. Hads up everyone who never knew that Nations had a dice only game.
My favorite dice game is probably Fuse, but it's such a stressful little game I usually can only play it once before putting it away for the night. I'll have to check out some of these.
I love that your gave the order of the traits in the original D&D order.
Love these new top 10 lists of yours!! Keep em coming!!!

Elder Sign
Dice City
BANG! The Dice Game
Tumblin' Dice

Great list! Now I've got a few more games to add to my research list.
Would recommend simple but fun dice game Age of War, especially with variations found on BGG: special set powers, tokens & a lethal extra 'Infiltration' card. And, yes, the box is TINY!
I would say Duell an ancient (1970s) by boardgame standards which uses dice in a unique fashion needs an honorary mention ....from BGG site -

Sagrada is fantastic, have wanted it ever since I saw the Kickstarter (but had to wait) and finally bought it as it reached retail :D
Speaking of dice drafting, I was surprised that you didn't include La Granja: No Siesta on your list. Otherwise great top 11, thank you! :)
Yeah, I was a little surprised by the lack of No Siesta. But not surprised by the number 1.
Looks like you got a full copy of agility! What a fantastic game.
why ppl keep asking "how come no such game" or "how come no that game?" its not like you will come up with a game, and rahdo will go, "omfg, i totally forgot about that game, its definitely top 10!" even if he did forget, he will just say "oh its top 15, not top 10" no point in asking these stupid questions.

what's there to learn? its a personal choice, not a college course.
Can you do a runthrough of how you got all of the Tiny Epic Galaxies expansion content into the base game box?? Now THAT I'd like to see!
it's not pretty. basically all of the wooden pieces are just loose in the box filling in every nook and cranny around the stacks of cards.
My favourite dice game is Zombie Dice
Castles of Burgundy The Dice Game is (at this stage) coming out in August. :)
yup, i've been waiting for years for this!
Where can I find out more about this? I didn't see it in the BGG database... Does it have a different name?
There isn't much information out there at this stage but according to Alea it's being released in Gemany in August. if you type in the German title there are a few websites advertising it but no pics yet except for the prototype ones from a few years ago.

Sagrada place 2 - not yet available in Europe ..... missing Pandemic
pandemic cure is probably top 15
Nice list. I think its also important to note that Roll Player has an expansion coming out, since its tied with Sagrada.
I might be wrong, but I don't think Rahdo is a huge fan of that expansion. It certainly uses a lot of roll to resolve, which he is not generally a fan of.
yeah, for our tastes the expansion was 'fine' but didn't greatly enhance the fun factor of the game.
Wurfel Bohnanza is great fun , and also enjoy Wizards of the Wild ( which also has cards). Both are great games!
Great List. I am missing Discoveries
Wow. I'm really surprised that 'Pandemic: The Cure' didn't make it into this list :O
But I'm sure it was an incredibly tough list to compile.
By the way, did you ever explain anywhere how to fit 'Ancient Terrible Things' into its expansion box? (I assume it involves cutting the board from the base game)
the expansion provides a set of location cards that function as a board replacement :)
did you ever tried the game "Fuse"? Its a dice game where you have 10 realtime minutes to get rid of the bombs in front of you. You can play it solo but you can play it with up to 5 players. It's coop and choosing your strategy as a group to overcome all thoses bombs... it's fast, it's fun and it's a communication game.. and you only have 10 minutes... boom!
and it comes in a tiny box :)

Sagrada #1
If you had Too Many Bones in your library it'd be in top 3 !
Agreed. They not only represent your character level, luck of combat success, and special power but sometime make agonizing decisions as to whether you invoke a special power that makes you lose those special power dice. My current favorite hands down.
yeah, it's a very neat game, and they've offered to send me a review copy, but i turned them down TBH because the box is too big...
Take it out of the box then! I'm such a strong proponent of them (no affiliation). If you'd like I will design a standard size laser cut box with insert and send it to you. You can then keep it if it's good or sell/charity if it's not to your tastes..
yeah the size of the box is unfortunate - all of the content could fit
in a Ticket to Ride sized box, if you got rid of the organizer.
@peter if you do design such a box, I hope you'll offer them for sale too!
Hey, when you do these top ten list you should provide links to your run-throughs for those games in the description section.
if someone wants to compile a list of them, i'll be happy to copy/paste it into the description. there used to be a guy who actually gave me the time stamp for when i started talking about each topic, and i would past those in too :)
How did you fit all of Roll for the Galaxy+Ambition in the Ambition box?
just barely. the trick is to put a bunch of stuff in the end plastic cup once they're all stacked together.
oh, and the rulebook has to be left out
I would add Dice Town, Bang! The dice game and King of Tokyo of course :)
Richard usually plays two-player with Jen, and Bang! the Dice Game does not play at all with two. KoT is probably too light. Not sure about Dice Town.
Probably!This are my preferences :)
King of Tokyo is a poor two player game. It becomes a simple roll-off, whilst with more players there are some fun decisions to make.
We were, talking here about my favourite dice games. Not my favourite dice games for two players.
I understand I failed to realize that you just wanted to share your personal tastes in dice games, but in the scope of any Rahdo Top 10, which is why we are all commenting here, we have to consider how a game plays with two players.
You get to try Too Many Bones yet Rahdo? Seems right in your wheel house but it is only on the 2nd printing.
i bet it's great, and they offered to send me a review copy, but i said 'no' largely because i didn't want another gigantic box with my limited shelf space
#1 has me surprised, according to BGG it doesn't play well with just 2 players. Which I only ever get to play, but will have to reconsider now cause it does seem like a good game.
actually, 73% of respondents on BGG rate #1 on the list as 'recommended for 2p' :)
Can you do a run through of Ancient Terrible Things? I'm looking for something like a fantasy level up cooperative game that is small. I need a small game because I go backpacking into the wilderness with friends. I have to pack lite and only bring the essentials. As far as I'm concerned, games are essential ;) any advice? i have done a runthrough a few years ago. just do a search for rahdo ancient terrible things and you'll find it.
small backpack coop? i'd probably go with pandemic the cure or or tiny epic defenders.
actually, this month i'll be doing a top 10 games to play in a restaurant, which requires very small table space, so that might help you out.
thanks! I'm looking it up now. you're the man
What is the hospital game above your right shoulder?
probably clinic or healthy heart hospital :)
FUSE FOR THE WIN!!!
rajas of the Ganges
I KNEW that Roll for the Galaxy will be n01. :D
Hey Rahdo. Where do Order of the Guilded Compas fit into this list?
well you can see how i rank everything relative to each other at ranked.rahdo.com :)
I presume Apocalypse Chaos will be in the podcast? ;-)
Did you ever get round to play Elder Signs with Gates of Arkham expansion ?
yup, enjoyed it quite a bit, except that the game overall is about 2x as long as i'd like
Hey Rahdo. Alea iacta est. You did a run-through a few years ago where You say that it is probably your favorit dice game. Why is that not on your list?
Vegas is quite good.
Rahdo said he didn't play Las Vegas so that might be why :)
lol, I just looked at his list
Wow, a Top 10 List that didn't attack my wallet lol. Not that there weren't some interesting games that I'll keep an eye our for (Roll Player, Sagrada) but for once I didn't feel an irresistible urge to place an order. Yikes, mellowing in my old age. ;)
I'm curious... no Fuse?
nope. i'll talk about that, and escape, and project elite in the podcast
great list rahdo .. love these top 10 lists .. stop cheating at number 2 lol
well, it really is roll player at #2 for me... sagrada i guess is more of an honorable mention :)
Would've expected Alea iacta est or Order of the GC here...
Marco Hoehener Rahdo traded Alea Iacta Est a while ago...
Where would've Dairyman ranked?
you can see how everything is ranked at ranked.rahdo.com or games.rahdo.com (might have to refresh page)
Burgundy missed the tile laying list as well. What is Burgundy to you @rahdo ???
a boardgame :)
no dice masters? i get that you don't like conflict games but dice masters is really not that "take that-ish" its feels like dominion if you ask me.
No love for Pandemic: The Cure???
top 20
Ahhh why are you making this videos, its make me buying more games......
Surprised no troyes. Need to listen as to why
and no castles of burgundy?
He explained why in the start.
which was basically the same explanation for troyes
You'll have to tune in for "Top Ten Dicey Board Games"
Where's YAHTZEE!!!???
yahtzee is in all of us! :)
wot no Alien Frontiers?
nope, way too mean for our tastes. plus, tbh, i'm not sure if i'd consider a dice worker-placement game to be a 'dice game'... hmm...
rahdo fair dos m8
I mean, it's your list so you can do whatever you want, but once I heard that this list didn't include board games at all I stopped watching. These are just not at all my kind of game. But I was looking forward to a list of dice-centric board games.
