You can get gesso at any craft store or even Amazon.com. Here is my affiliate link to a really good gesso for priming: www.amazon.com/dp/B07GYYWFPP/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_api_gl_i_5DPJAJ2RZW8YFNF5TTPB?linkCode=ml2&tag=oldunwantedartpost_blog-20
Take 1 quart of household paint primer take 2 tablespoons of plaster chips in the stuff you fill holes in your house and even a sprinkle baking soda. Mix it all up make it a little bit warm painted on any surface you wanna paint even go over at all, Paint, do you want to redo and four hours later you’re in business with a brand new campus?
I have a huge canvas to cover, and it has really thick almost plastic acrylic paint on it, and big spots where the 1/8”-1/4” paint covering has broken off from the canvas. I think it was a department store pre-painted sort of thing. Can I just get hardware store primer to cover it instead of Gesso?? I would have to buy so many jars of gesso just for one coat
I think you can. I would probably use modeling paste more for texture and adding relief to the surface. I prefer gesso to help cover everything - even old oil paintings and start from scratch.

That sanding and 2-3 layer trick is 🔑
Yes!!🙌🏻
@@TheBuzzedArtist can you use a sand paper?
@@nis.sin_viewr yup!
What do you think of this little hack?
What about varnished canvases?😅
you can try to either strip off the varnish with a stripper solution and/or sand it off.
Why anyone use varnish on messed up painting bruh😂😂

Should’ve told me this 2 days ago when I ripped and tore it😂love the hack
😂
I wash it with water and it comes off😅
lol that’s…different 🤣
I’ll be sure to try this, thank you!
No problem!
How about I apply two or three layers of PAINT & it covered the PAINT just fine 👍
That works too. Although using paint instead of gesso can sometimes get expensive, especially if you have a lot of surface to cover.
me..dear google how can you make gesso?

I don’t have gesso or sandpaper, any alternatives?
You can try white acrylic paint as a last resort!
Do you also sandpaper your final gesso coat? What grit sandpaper would you recommend for that?
I don’t usually sand the final gesso coat, but I don’t see the harm in it :) I usually use a 220 grit sand block
@@TheBuzzedArtist Thank you, I'm going for a super smooth gesso finish for an artwork. Will try 220.
Can we use acrylic white colour as gesso ?
You can for a quick fix
What about mod podge?
From my experience, modge podge acts more like a sealer than a primer for paint. It wouldn’t hurt to try it out and see what happens!
@@TheBuzzedArtist ok thanks so much I tried and it did not work out so good but thanks so much for advice.❤️❤️😃😃

Hmmm that would probably work. Give it a try on a smaller surface and see how it feels to paint on it :)
Hii I have a question Can you use a modelling paste to cover the old painting?
I think you can. I would probably use modeling paste more for texture and adding relief to the surface. I prefer gesso to help cover everything - even old oil paintings and start from scratch.
@@TheBuzzedArtist Thank you so much!!
I just paint over it the lumps in paint strokes give it texture
Oooo. Gotta love that texture!
My gesso is not smoothly applied what should I do?
Is this applied in case of oil painting
According to this video, I believe so!
