One of my life biggest regrets:
When I was young, my mum had a shop at No 9 Cole street, Onitsha. That was the major road to the entrance of Osili’s residence.
Often times in the evening, he will walk up to our shop, will have 2 bottles of either Heineken of Best beer, depending on the one that we have, with a plate of Pepper soup.
Back then, I used to hate highlife music. I never appreciated Osili then.
About my second year in University, some of my friends used to play his songs and gradually I started falling in love with his music. By the time my family moved to a different start, I was head-on in love with Osili’s music and others.
Every time I listen to him, I wish I could rewind the hands of time. I can still visualize those days, times him and his band are going to or coming back from a concert (their Yellow Bus with the bold inscription: Chief Stephen Osita Osadebe and His Nigerian Sound Makers).
Rest on in Peace, Osili nwa mama!!! ☮️☮️☮️

It's surprising how the melody immediately evokes the sadness inherent in the song. The singer is telling a moving story about his life. The very first word is 'Mournful cries'.

Chief Osita's music has such clarity in melody, rhythm, general instrumentation, and indeed words.
I often use his tracks in music appreciation classes with my college students. I make them list out all the Instruments they hear in a track.
We end up dancing to the track before the end of the class. Its teaches alot. Calmness, self respect, discipline.

You know, Christmas eve, wedding eve, new years, and the visitors in the Pallor drinking with my dad and the atmosphere is just the most amazing experience; then that goat meat aroma comes in from the backyard, lol.. I love Nigeria!!!

I am not Igbo but I love high life music, kinda has same instrumentals just like our Benga 90's music in kenya 🇰🇪🇰🇪 music for the Luo, we Luo's in Kenya 🇰🇪 have a great resemblance and similarities in terms of music , culture, names, and food , I believe The IGBO in Nigeria 🇳🇬 are our People our Brother's we the Luos in Kenya 🇰🇪, example in names, in Nigeria we have Okoye, in Kenya 🇰🇪 we have Okeyo.
