One of my life biggest regrets: When I was young, my mum had a shop at No 9 Cole street, Onitsha. That was the major road to the entrance of Osili’s residence. Often times in the evening, he will walk up to our shop, will have 2 bottles of either Heineken of Best beer, depending on the one that we have, with a plate of Pepper soup. Back then, I used to hate highlife music. I never appreciated Osili then. About my second year in University, some of my friends used to play his songs and gradually I started falling in love with his music. By the time my family moved to a different start, I was head-on in love with Osili’s music and others. Every time I listen to him, I wish I could rewind the hands of time. I can still visualize those days, times him and his band are going to or coming back from a concert (their Yellow Bus with the bold inscription: Chief Stephen Osita Osadebe and His Nigerian Sound Makers).
