Duuude, Artix made a TedTalk? This is awesome! Dragonfable was my childhood 😄 It could have been better, but after all that is said and done, you could really feel the enthusiasm from this legend
This is why I play video games. The greatest aspect of video gaming is the presence of a good story, and the ability to be a part of that story. I have always loved video games that told wonderful stories, games like KOTOR, Dark Void, Final Fantasy, Mass Effect, Dungeons&Dragons, Dragon Age, and every major game produced by Artix

and 12 years later: he was right. They ARE the future of storytelling. He even proved that himself. One of the most latest stories in his game, AQW had one of the best stories I've seen in recent media, books and shows or otherwise.
[This post is a discussion of the audience's reaction the presentation] At first you can tell a lot of people felt awkward with the methodology of the presentation. The audience going in probably had a different idea of how a TEDx speaker should dress, speak, and act. When the people come out in costumes, and Adam/Artix speaks and acts dramatically, this is contrary to the audiences expectations. This, of course, causes physiological discomfort. Eventually, some of the audience members do adapt and come to accept Adam/Artix as a legitimate speaker; you call tell by their reactions later on in the video. They just have to accept that it is ok that the presentation is different than the polished expectation people have (look at the speakers in the "Up Next" TEDx lineup), and get into the same groove as Adam/Artix (i.e. enthusiastic and a bit childish). Unfamiliarity with the topic, or, in this case, video games like Adventure Quest Worlds, will also cause discomfort in audiences. At different points Adam/Artix asks the audience how many of them are familiar with a certain thing (or person), and the responses indicate that most of the audience is unfamiliar, which means he will have a harder time connecting with the audience. Next, appearances should support goals. The goal here was not to be a scholarly presentation by an expert sharing his research on the topic, it was to be a colorful presentation by a video game enthusiast sharing his experiences of the topic. And therefore his costume and delivery supported that goal. Lastly, one could argue that the presentation would have been more successful if Adam/Artix had changed his approach and conformed to the excepted style and dress. Certainly, a good quality of any speaker is to know his or her audience and effectively adjust his or her presentation to fit the audience. If Adam/Artix had chosen to meet the professional standard associated with TEDx, his message might have been more effective.
He was extremely nervous and also it was kinda cringe because the people don't play the game or games only a verry few and also when he was making jokes barely anyone laughed and at the end it was just weird
I've seen artix online a few times, live events are the best. Random tangent; I've always enjoyed the world of Lore and battleon games. I feel like this game created fantasy for me as a child. I wish I seen this sooner.
It honestly felt... Kinda meh? He didn't really say much about interactive storytelling and more about how he made an event in AQW. Like, it didn't really tell anything they couldn't find by a quick google search...
But on the AQO subject I love that game! But I don't like to pay monthly to get awesomeness. I'd absolutely pay once for awesomeness but monthly....not for me :P
8 years later... Dragon fable, MechQuest, HeroSmash, AQ, EpicDuel and other games under Atrix Entertainment ( except AQW & AQ3D ) are dead. So, good job Atrix!
To be honest. from the moment I watched this, I cringe so hard when he just presented the game to the audience who "NEVER" play flash games and other ae game... I watched this video since I was from elementary and I still felt cringe.
It's a good thing most of the people there don't play MMO's or video games, because this talk was really cringey and Artix clearly had no idea what he was talking about. No offense, but AQW, even at its best, has never been very good in the writing. It has some good characters at times, definitely some really awesome artwork, but almost never a good story. Most people probably just skip through the cutscenes anyway. There is no "choice" in the game, because no matter what you choose the NPC will say the same thing back to you, or if not, maybe the next text bubble will be different but ultimately the story won't have changed at all. The only one time they had something close to a believable, well-written story arc would probably be Doomwood. It's is the only story where all the pieces were actually completely consistent with another.
Note this is Dec 29, 2012 and this looks silly to me. Yes interactive stories have not had their Shakespeare, and this seems too simple, like starting with a,b,c's rather than words. Action is great and we are a long way from being able to talk to the games characters. Silly costumes, this is not my thing. Please consider seeing my INTERACTIVE STORIES for an adult take on 'games'. have fun q
kazumazkan Life is Strange is an interactive story I personally have enjoyed. Also AQ3D should be coming out in the next few months, and according to Artix, it should deal with slightly more heavier themes
Shuuya Kano almost forgot about life is strange love it a lot. gonna try out aq3d since it does look awesome but lately i've been trying to re access my old account because my old email no longer is available.

First game that i played from this guys was DragonFable, but AQW was the game that i most liked.
Good old memories.
He sounded like almost like Bill Cipher from Gravity Falls! :D
I feel sorry for Adam, he made an awesome presentation and to me it looks like the audience didn't care much.
They started warming up to the presentation though, toward the end. You can tell by the reactions.
He is cringe lol. I've never seen a bad tedx talk before now xD
@@Iddy267 He did say he wasn't a talented speaker sadly, I can relate.
this was still back in 2012, when most people thought gaming was for losers, so I understand.
Where were are all the AQW fans when this tedtalk was announced. Maaaan AQW was my jam in the days, I still hop on every now and then.

Dragonfable isn’t dead tho, it still gets an update weekly and with caring devs and an active playerbase.
Much of those games had a good run of almost 15-20 years, which is very impressive imo
