I would recommend listening and reacting to the entire Nightmare album in order, as it’s a concept album and each song is a different part of the nightmare. Each song is very different from the others and there are indeed hard rock, guitar heavy tunes on this album as well as a beautiful ballad where Alice once again shows his vocal ability. Pretty much all of Alice’s 28 studio albums sound different from any of his other albums. He and his band(s) are very versatile. If you continue onto the next tune, Devil’s Food, it connects and bleeds into the next track titled the Black Widow. Listen to them together.
Good advice. Saw this tour and the one prior back in the day. Your right about “Nightmare.” This was the “Alice” image ramped up hard and it worked. Black Widow, nothing like it. Billion Dollar Babies, same thing. When that was released, every rock player took notice. 🤘😎
Pink Floyd have their "The Wall" album and for me, this is Alive Coopers "Wall" album so to speak. It is one of the spookiest albums I have ever heard, injected with brief moments of humor, something else many people miss. And the trilogy, Years Ago-Steven-and The Awakening still leaves me mesmerized and spooked.
My brother is a professional chef, but back in '95ish when he was interning at a restaurant in Arizona (Phoenix, I think), he said Alice Cooper and his family would come in fairly often, as they were friends with the owner. He said the whole family was so kind....kids were very well-mannered, and they always said grace before eating. "Alice" would always go back and personally thank the chefs after dinner. Public persona is very different from reality.
Alice Copper you saved my life do to my job and personal life i had to hear that song from the movie frozen [let it go ] several times a day for 2 years. To keep from losing my mind I started to pretend it was sung by Alice Cooper. Now I'd like to hear a cover by Alice Cooper. If your out there Alice Copper please cover that song from Frozen❤
Alice Cooper actually knew Jim Morrison and opened for the Doors a time or two, so your comparison of his music to that of the Doors would be highly welcomed on his part. Welcome to My Nightmare is a classic album and highly underrated and was my introduction to Alice Cooper way back in '75. I recommend you listen to the entire album!!
Recently saw Mr. Alice Cooper live in concert, about a month ago, for the third time. First in 1978, then in 1983, and now in 2022. His voice is still as good as ever, UNBELIEVABLE. And he still puts on A SHOW. He always has a prop (Cane, Whip, Dagger, etc) in his hand, and there are dancers and giant scary figures wandering around the stage, appropriate for each song, and a killer band with three guitarists. A fun, crazy, entertaining SHOW. You should do the whole Nightmare album for the month of October, it fits the feel of this time of year.
Please check out "Only women bleed", one of my favourite songs of AC. It's worth watching him live on stage. I've seen him in 2013 and he blew me away. His wife Sheryl was playing and dancing the role of creepy nurse Rozetta and the other women's roles. She was awesome, too. She started to dance for him in 1975 when they did the "Welcome to my nightmare" show. Later, Alice's eldest daughter Calico also went sometimes on tour with her dad and danced for him. She's as fantastic as her mother.
:)...Saw him in 78...He put on quite a show...School's Out for Summer tour...I was 18 and just graduated high school...:)...Philly spectrum...You could smoke weed and cigarettes in the seats...
Alice Cooper is, a figure who has always been able to reincarnate and rise from the ashes like a Phoenix, change her stage image thanks to acting skills on stage, personally I have now listened to two Alice albums, in my opinion underestimated, these are 1981 "special forces" and 1982 "zipper catches skin", I recommend to listen.
I saw Alice on his "Welcome To My Nightmare" tour in 1975. Great music & a great stage show, everything from a guillotine to a beautiful ballerina (later his wife) to giant spiders climbing a giant web. Alice has always known how to give an audience a good time. He's also a very funny guy, love his interviews. 💙🕸🕷🎃☮
I’ve seen Alice about 7 or 8 times but never back in the day. He really knows how to put on a show and this whole album is a masterpiece, one of my all-time favorites.
" No More Mr Nice Guy". Aside from the stage costume, Alice is amazing. His albums are a stunning compilation of musical genius. Outstanding. Saw him live at our High School. Freaky at the time.Funny fact he is a golf fanatic and had played golf 6 days a week for 30 years. Glad you enjoyed Harri. Thanks Harri and KDKitchen. Excellent tune. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
This was the opening song for his show which at the time was like going through a haunted house on stage. It was meant to shock like nothing else seen at the time. There was hanging and guillotines all for the shock value.
One of the best, most under appreciated bands behind Alice in all of Rock history. He got all the attention, but they were as much a part of it as his voice and showmanship
Bob Ezrin is the producing/writing influence through this, Kiss Destroyer, Meatloaf Bat out of Hell and Pink Floyd The Wall …. plus many others. I think he brings stage play sensibilities to rock. Can be a little cheesy but probably on purpose.
I took to AC in 1975, when WTMN came out and the 45 rpm... A side. Only Women Bleed/ B side. Cold Ethyl. A slow one...very dramatic and a Rocker about necrophilia. The shock rockers stage show was the best rock show ever as well!

"Nightmare " is one of the greats! An incredibly well constructed album full of awesome hits. Just as Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon, this is one to appreciate the full album in one sitting.
Lots of musicians who are considered to be ‘shocking’ actually have great voices. Even the original singer for GWAR (Oderus Urungus, RIP) had an awesome voice. Check out their ballad ‘The Road Behind’ and their song ‘Salaminizer.’ Because of their costumes they’re one of the most underrated bands of the 80s.
I'm surprised that no one has discovered how much of The Doors there is in this song. If I remember correctly, Alice and Jim Morrison used to hang out quite a bit, and that's no surprise, hearing this.

A trip back to my public school days. Saw him a couple of times live during that era. Received some backlash from my then girlfriend's family when the local paper review commented on the whiff of some questionable smoke in the air. As the saying goes.... it wasn't me. 😉
Another great Halloween song is Bloodrock-D.O.A. which was actually a hit in 1971 even though it was banned from the radio. Studio album version is best.
I always thought he sounded like Morrison on this and on other songs when he sung low and controlled. I was hoping you would vindicate me and mention it.
