The starting "Ranger" class pick is actually VERY lore accurate. In the canon prequel series "Goblin Slayer: Year One' when he first signs up and is filling out his registration sheet...which is pretty much his Character Sheet by DnD standards, the new to the town guild at the time Guild Girl notes that he has "1 in Ranger, 1 in Fighter, and.." the third is left unknown but given he was trained by a Rhea (Hobbit) named "Burgler" (obvious LOTR reference) it's likely he has 1 in Rogue as well, especially since he CAN use a lock pick but he's not the best at it, stating it's not his main class.
@@dndbuildsIt would be accurate to both shows actually, he does go into a sort of frenzied rage with the red eye parts. I noticed GS in the main show is also pretty damn intelligent. He knew to use flour against the Not-Beholder (that I don’t remember the name of) to bait it into blowing itself up. He would have a LOT less levels in Barbarian in the main show. Maybe up to 3 for Berserker but he’d probably have more of a focus in the Abridged series.
I made a character similar to this for Baldurs Gate 3, played them as a ranger with similar stats, but relied heavily on consumable tools and weapons. Throwing poisons, potions, using scrolls, every bomb I could find, and looting an enemy to chuck their weapons at other enemies. It was a ton of fun, especially when I got to the point where I had multiple actions
He's straight up a Fighter, specifically a Scout archetype fighter. He doesn't cast spells outside scrolls and it still gives him huge advantages that ranger gives. Also, it's clear he uses Second wind to cheat death by the skin of his nose during one of the sewer fights during the sword maiden arch
Honestly, Goblin Slayer spends a LOT of time learning about the world and tactics and such and even underhanded stuff. I'd almost argue that multiclassing the last 4 levels into Rogue for sneak attack, expertise, and some others would be good. He is very pragmatic and takes every piece of information he gains in order to maximize his abilities to killing a goblin. Different tactics for different encounters. (EDIT:) I still very much like this build. I thought of the rogue add-on because I believe they call his weapon a short sword, at one point, so finesse sneak attacks wouldn't be put of the question (with some stat changes). Overall, this is a very solid ranger build. Love it.
Yeah, he mostly uses short swords, because he uses swords he's grabbed off goblins' dead bodies and goblins use short swords or daggers, but also because goblin tunnels are tight and longer weapons like longsword, etc are ineffective in tight spaces.
Yeah I was tempted to, because when you see that red eye you think rage. But he's so tactical that I really felt like it didn't fit. But you can still wear medium armor as a barbarian and go into rage. But it just didn't feel right to me
@@dndbuilds there is also the bonus to con from raging which fits well with the one fight in the sewers where he literally rages himself back to life long enough to drink a few pots and fight off the goblin champion before dying when he calms down.
Zealot Barbarian's 14th level feature fits quite thematically with Goblin Slayer. (Rage Beyond Death* if I recall correctly) Since GS wears the equivalent of Half-Plate, proficient with all weapons and shields, Rage causes his Improvised Weapons to hit harder (like his Shield), and the Danger Sense to evade Goblin Traps. I think Barbarian fits quite well. Even his helmet without the horns being cut off, gives off Barbarian vibes.
@@Battleguild except GS doesn't fight like how you would expect a barbarian would so having him be almost entirely barbarian levels seems wrong. A great guide and it gave me a lot to think about because i don't normally build martial characters. I think to keep the sense of real danger I might build a lower level Orcbolg. Like level 3-6. I would steer away from magical effects although I know its hard to avoid sometimes in a magical setting. Orcbolg uses scrolls and alchemists fire. In the english dub it says "gasoline" lol. I would maybe use grease, oil flasks and alchemists fire. Scroll of gust. Stuff like that.
This is a pretty solid build. His other favorite enemies should be like troll or ogre or hobgoblin because in the anime it does show that those creatures run with goblins and he has to fight them. If I'm not mistaken, he even shows proficiency in knowing about some of the creatures.
Great build! I would honestly make the build a bit more efficient by focusing on Dexterity more than Strength, not dump it, but have it at decent level. Btw if anyone is interested Goblin Slayer actually has his own TRPG. Main edition + 2 supplements so far I think. However not sure if it was translated into english yet. As for choosing ranger as a class, it is fairly fitting, since in manga (both primary and spinoffs) other parties usually employ him when they are looking for someone who would fill mainly "scout" role. Furthermore multiclassing into fighter seems very lore friendly. Loved the "so screw that option". Thanks for nice video and interesting build that I will definitely try out.

Ranger-> hunter with that 1vmany thingy. He keeps hunters mark on a gobbos constantly. He has 1 lvl in rogue, specifically for expertise in sneaking and survival. And 3 lvls in fighter -> battlemaster.
You know this would be a very fun build to play with if the DM plays along with your focus and gives you he goblin hordes you wanna fight against. Really, if more DMs played along with what their players want to do rather than put them on more generic settings without flexibility, Rangers would be used way more often.
Great work! I’d love to see a build based on Dr. Stone (Anime) or the protagonist from The Dungeon Black Company. The former you could focus on all the things an artificer can make not just class features. The latter is a dead ringer for an eloquence bard IMO.
This is great! I want to use this when I play. Thank you. Whenever you get a chance, please do a build for Albedo. I can’t wait to see what you put together for her. Like is she a fallen angel or a feather winged teifling?

He can track and we see him following specific routes others taught him before. How would you build him? I thought he be something of a champion fighter/rogue scout.
I'd take resilient con over tavern brawler. It's the same bonus but far more practical. (surviving goblin poison, for instance) Plus some of those ranger spells may be concentration.
I'm glad someone noticed the soundtrack lol, and I was tempted to go with some Barbarian, but he felt so tactical that I veered away from it. However, a couple levels in it could be helpful.
Based on his knowledge, tactical skills and ability to improvise and find non-conventional uses for things such as a flour sack or barrier spell etc, I'd say GS also has at least above average intelligence. Pretty low CHA though, but that doesn't bother him much.
So I like this idea, but I might suggest a few changes in the way you level. Levels 1 to 5: Hunter ranger. Feats are medium armor master at 1, and shield master at 4, giving him a variety of techniques to use. 16 dex is more than enough for now. Then, we swap to battle master fighter to 3. Your fighting styles will be dueling and archery. This way, you get maneuvers, multiple fighting styles, and two attacks. This turns into a very versatile goblin hunter which is what he is. If you want the level 6 ranger features before BM fighter, that works too. Since most games dont go beyond 10 anyways, grabbing the bm levels early increases your versatility early on, and let's you see what this character truly is about. Fantastic concept though. I'm definitely making this character.
The best tank i ever made was a satyr battlemind from 4th edition. I cant remember my base AC by 20th.. i think it was 32? My character was able to solo the BBEG's entire bodyguard retinue while the rest of my party fought the boss. That dude was *THE immovable object*
I feel like gloomstalker would fit just as well as hunter since goblin slayer tends to use ambush and preparation and spends a lot of tine in the underground tonnels and caves
Only thing I'd do different is get agi to 16 quicker. You said one of your first abilities taken was dependent on agi of at least 16, then wait a good while to get there making the point of that abilities a bit pointless.
yea, I'd say while the theme of ranger fits GS quite well with the favoured enemy that is about all. He doesn't use spells himself like a ranger could so I would have made him some kind of fighter/rogue/barbarian mix.
I think changing one of the fighting styles to thrown weapon fighting would be more accurate. Goblin slayer loves just chucking the weapons hes picked up along the way, otherwise i think that the use of ranger for his "spells" was very clever.
I'm really surprised none of the goblin slayer builds I've seen have used the Sentinel feat. - impale that pesky goblin that jumped the poor newby next to you (reaction attack when an enemy attacks someone adjacent to you) - cut the legs off any goblin who dares try to escape your wrath (goblins in d&d can disengage as a bonus action, so being able to ignore that AND stop their movement is paramount)
i like this build, but to avoid using spells (even if they are the most discret ones) i would probably have go 1 lvl in ranger and the rest on BM fighter
@@dndbuilds Its a new-ish game, very fun, Id suggest you try it out and see if it tickles your fancy, unlike a lot of gacha-type games out there, this one doesnt beg too hard for your wallet and you can progress pretty easily, Justia is one of the main characters and I'd be curious to see how she would be built into dnd
Good call out, but I'm probably never going to call it that only because I did take some french (long long time ago) and whenever I try to pronounce anything the proper way, I feel like everyone just looks at me like I'm being a snob. Meanwhile I'm just trying to be accurate lol. But one of these days, I might say it right and give you a shout out for being the one to give me that correct pronunciation as a thank you
Considering how much GS fighting style relies on planning ahead to outsmart the enemy and figuring out creative solutions to the problems and unexpected situations he faces, only 8 intelligence seems too low imo
Fighter, AD&D: 1 attack per character level vs enemies with less than a full HD (like, oh, goblins). Wear any armour, use any weapon. There ya go, GAAAAAAWBLIN!!! Slayer.
Is it possible to add more intelligence and less charisma? Because goblin slayer was looked down upon for, even beginner adventurers look down on him at the start. It wasn't until he had his group that people started to realize he was useful. Amazing vid tho, would love to see more, keep it up.
Hey there, great video. I was wondering if you might look into statting a character a little off the beaten path. A book character named, 'Odd Thomas.' He's not a super well known character, and you kinda have to read the books to find out what all he can do, but I think he'd be really fun to play in DND and I'm not super sure how to stat him myself
I would have sneaked sentinel somewhere maybe instead of tavern. My reasoning: Goblin don t escape goblin slayer and they can take the disengage action with a bonus. But with sentinel you coud still attack them, making you feel truly specialized
Step 1: Use 2nd or 3rd edition. Alternatives like Pathfinder 1e and HackMaster 5e are also good. Step 2: Follow Step 1 and stick to it. It doesn't matter how much someone wants a player coddling edition. Step 3: Be prepared to be realistic and make sure that your players can handle the grit. Step 4: Toss out those who are "easily offended" They are not worth having around. Step 5: Have a super kick ass campaign that your players will talk about for years. Step 6: Bathe in glory.
I know you've already done a couple DBZ videos, but could there be a Krillin build sometime down the line? Definitely one of my favorite characters, but for now I'm just settling on using your Goku build with minor modifications, like using Mr. Popo as the patron for the Archfey warlock subclass, to make it seem more lore accurate during the training arc of the Sayain Saga (or DBZ: Abridged's Popo for the RP memes).
You can't have the same fighting style twice, and you can't have more than one Fighting Initiate feat, but you can definitely have more than one fighting style.
Human Storm Sorcerer Origin. Robin would be harder becouse you need something like a rogue/warlock but I don't know what spells would imitate her devil fruit
A sorcerer is someone who’s magic is innate to be them, however if you take away Nami’s Climattack from her, she loses her “magic.” Also as the navigator she relies upon Intelligence and Wisdom more than Charisma. Wizard also can learn similar spells as Sorcerer and is Intelligent based

I would grab the tough feat at level one with 16 STR 14 wis 14 dexterity 12 con 10 int 8 chr and go hunter all the way
The best tank i ever made was a satyr battlemind from 4th edition. I cant remember my base AC by 20th.. i think it was 32? My character was able to solo the BBEG's entire bodyguard retinue while the rest of my party fought the boss.
That dude was *THE immovable object*
its been a month..did somebody actually made this build to an actual dnd game..??? like to hear it..thanks
Put in a it bit of Rogue Class because in Volume 4 and 7 of the Novels we found out he was trained as a Burglar
By his master
yea, I'd say while the theme of ranger fits GS quite well with the favoured enemy that is about all.
- impale that pesky goblin that jumped the poor newby next to you (reaction attack when an enemy attacks someone adjacent to you)
- cut the legs off any goblin who dares try to escape your wrath (goblins in d&d can disengage as a bonus action, so being able to ignore that AND stop their movement is paramount)
Awesome build. You should do either Kazuma from konosuba, or Yuta Okkotsu from jujutsu kaisen next
Another perfect portrayal all the way down to tavern brawler.
i like this build, but to avoid using spells (even if they are the most discret ones) i would probably have go 1 lvl in ranger and the rest on BM fighter
We could just ask them 😅
I know this may get buried but I love this game, can you do Justia Edelfelt from Browndust 2?
I definitely see it, but I'm not going to lie I had to google that one because I'd never actually heard of it.
I would go with:
Strength - 13 = [+1]
Dexterity - 15 +1 = [+3]
Constitution - 13 +1 = [+2]
Intelligence - 12 = [+1]
Wisdom - 12 = [+1]
Charisma - 8 = [-1]
Sweet build
FYI, repost is french: it's pronounced re-po-say
Good call out, but I'm probably never going to call it that only because I did take some french (long long time ago) and whenever I try to pronounce anything the proper way, I feel like everyone just looks at me like I'm being a snob. Meanwhile I'm just trying to be accurate lol. But one of these days, I might say it right and give you a shout out for being the one to give me that correct pronunciation as a thank you
Considering how much GS fighting style relies on planning ahead to outsmart the enemy and figuring out creative solutions to the problems and unexpected situations he faces, only 8 intelligence seems too low imo
Yeah, I was relying on Wisdom to help carry that idea, and using point buy does limit how many points you can really pull off in other stats.
Fighter, AD&D: 1 attack per character level vs enemies with less than a full HD (like, oh, goblins). Wear any armour, use any weapon. There ya go, GAAAAAAWBLIN!!! Slayer.
I would like to request Hiei from Yu Yu Hakusho
Is it possible to add more intelligence and less charisma? Because goblin slayer was looked down upon for, even beginner adventurers look down on him at the start. It wasn't until he had his group that people started to realize he was useful. Amazing vid tho, would love to see more, keep it up.
Hobgoblins for the other favored enemy. Then Bugbears, and if necessary, ogres.
Sebastian from Overlord please
9:20 would i be able to flavor this and say he's "mastered moves at blinding speed" instead of the character being actually invisible
Skull knight from Berserk when?
Great video btw.
wouldn't it be more fitting choosing the throwing weapon fighting-style?
The other Foe would be Hobgoblins, that covers the larger ones from the anime.
Who cares about anything but goblins? Well obviously Hobgoblins are just as much a menace to society but bigger!
Exactly!
Goblin slayer is awesome. I wonder how you'd build baki hanma from the baki anime on netflix
day 10 of asking for Tsuna from Hitman Reborn in DnD
Yeaaaa❤
Yeah this one's been requested a fair amount
This video is such a dream lol
Probably worth mentioning but, there are multiple types of goblins to select for your favored enemy (hob-goblins, bugbears, worgs, etc)
Please do one for Sally from Bofuri
Would really like to see a build of Fran from Reincarnated as a Sword.
Do you think you could do Esdeath from Akame Ga Kill that would be pretty cool
A nice build. How would you build assassin Shuten-douji from Fate grand order?
I see
Asking for a "Zato 1" build, 2 months in the making
could you do Allen walker from dgray man also love your builds
Hey there, great video. I was wondering if you might look into statting a character a little off the beaten path. A book character named, 'Odd Thomas.' He's not a super well known character, and you kinda have to read the books to find out what all he can do, but I think he'd be really fun to play in DND and I'm not super sure how to stat him myself
I would have sneaked sentinel somewhere maybe instead of tavern. My reasoning: Goblin don t escape goblin slayer and they can take the disengage action with a bonus. But with sentinel you coud still attack them, making you feel truly specialized
Make chrono: chrono trigger
Pantro,lion etc: thundercats
Cosmic garou: one punch man
Goblin Slayer (the setting I mean, not the character) kinda borrows some cues from Tucker's Kobolds.
Can you build Sakata gintoki from gintama?
I'm curious to see how you would translate someone like the Monkey King Sun Wukong from Journey to the West into D&D.
what about when he’s fighting hobgoblins or goblin champions?
I know you've already done a couple DBZ videos, but could there be a Krillin build sometime down the line? Definitely one of my favorite characters, but for now I'm just settling on using your Goku build with minor modifications, like using Mr. Popo as the patron for the Archfey warlock subclass, to make it seem more lore accurate during the training arc of the Sayain Saga (or DBZ: Abridged's Popo for the RP memes).
ok you have done a lot of characters that i didn't think could be done , so how about Boxxo from Reborn As A Vending Machine, I Now Wander The Dungeon
do a sukuna one next
Make a build for Lion Sin Escanor 🤞🤞🤞
i thought in 5e you can't have more than one Fighting Style?
You can't have the same fighting style twice, and you can't have more than one Fighting Initiate feat, but you can definitely have more than one fighting style.
thank you
@@dndbuilds
I can’t seem to be able to choose deft explorer
You have to have "Optional Features" active when building, and then you can turn them on as you level
@@dndbuilds ah thank you oh and is it possible that you can make a build revolving around Rake Tyler from extraction
Can you make Tsubaki from soul eater?
Day 5 of asking for Nami from One Piece
Human Storm Sorcerer Origin. Robin would be harder becouse you need something like a rogue/warlock but I don't know what spells would imitate her devil fruit
A sorcerer is someone who’s magic is innate to be them, however if you take away Nami’s Climattack from her, she loses her “magic.” Also as the navigator she relies upon Intelligence and Wisdom more than Charisma. Wizard also can learn similar spells as Sorcerer and is Intelligent based
