I loved your video. Now I'm 70, but at age 30 I did a "Rondje IJsselmeer" together with colleagues and a "support vehicle" in one day on a simple steel frame Peugeot road bike with 21 gears. The LF routes were not invented yet and also GPS navigation did not exist for the normal people. It was some 300 km including the 32 km Afsluitdijk. The first handicap was a little brown dog in the middle of nowhere in Friesland under my front wheel, fall and broken glasses. Near Elburg I hit a curb and my rear wheel was wobbely. I was lucky with a mate who had golden hands. He bent it back with his hands, set the tension on the spokes and we went on. It was a bit warmer period and I remember wiping salt crystals from my forehead in Muiden. The last bit of your trip was from Nauerna to IJmuiden. You could have taken the route over the doors of the sea locks in IJmuiden. That's what I often do. Still riding some 3500 km annually. Thanks for the lifelong golden memories.. enjoy yours too.
Hi guys, Nice ride. I live alongside the route, so I know many of the places you cycled through. I also cycled from the ferry in Newcastle to the central station many a time and trust me, it was a whole lot worse in the past. I hope you've enjoyed your stay...
Great video! Cycled this route from Newcastle in 2017. Coming down the eastern side, i rode along ‘sea’ shore where there is, of course, a lovely cycle path. The whole route was wonderful. Thanks!
Beautiful video! The beginning text is not entirely accurate. Zuiderzee was the name when the Afsluitdijk wasn't yet build. After the construction of the Afsluitdijk the water south of the Afsluitdijk is called the IJsselmeer, and the water north of the Afsluitdijk is called the wadden zee. Later the Markerwaarddijk was build and the water south of the Markerwaarddijk is called the Markermeer
I'm glad you liked it! Yes I completely agree, it was great to learn about the history of the area as we cycled around! The route we followed was called the Zuiderzeeroute, sorry for the confusion!!
The Netherlands is a great place to ride, in fact some of the best riding in the world! I rode Ronde van Nedeland in May and June on my folding bike. I'd recommend to all riders!!
This is our route: www.strava.com/routes/2957039617992262790 (its goes via our airbnbs, etc). I got the route gpx from here: www.lfzuiderzeeroute.nl/en
You go much too fast! Please come again to the Netherlands and take your time to enjoy everything that's here to see. And btw I'm a 'warmshowers' host. Even cheaper than Vrienden op de fiets ...
06:13 LOL..., as a cyclist on this road you don't have to wait for the traffic light (see sign under the traffic light) cyclists who turn right are allowed to continue
Nice! I'm just back from cycling the LF Maasroute. A great trip.
Hope you had fun! That’s next on our list

Lovely video, nice to see my country trough your eyes. Next time do the eastern and southern parts, they will offer you a different scenery.
Glad you enjoyed it. Next time!
I don't understand the distances in the video. The miles are always way higher than the kilometers?
Hiya! Sorry for the confusion. The video shows kilometres then metres elevation. Not miles. Sorry about that
Absolutely amazing, thinking of taking the 10 year old for a short bike trip, if you have any tips, I would love to hear them. Thanks.
netherlands is just the best place to start bikepacking! the whole country is set up for it. Defo do it!
@@caitlean.runnerbean6943 we did it, it was amazing, haven't uploaded any footage yet but I will. 👍 Thanks
