- Mazda Motor Corporation has unveiled the MAZDA ICONIC SP concept car at the Japan Mobility Show 2023. MAZDA ICONIC SP is a new type of compact sports car concept, designed to adapt to the new era of electrification whilst responding to the emotions of customers who love cars that simply embody the joy of driving. It features Mazda's unique dual rotary EV system, enabling the concept model to have a low centre of gravity to enhance driving performance. Batteries can be charged with renewable energy and the two-rotor engine, used for power generation, can be powered by carbon-neutral fuel.
Even if this is only a concept car, it shows the direction of Mazda's design language for future vehicles - they're really on their game at the moment, with Toyota in close second. The other Japanese manufacturers have a bit of catching up to do, at least in terms of styling.
Our "Kodo" design language translates to "soul of motion", this inspires all of our designs from our concept vehicles to our SUVs.

Not an electric guy here. But, a 2 rotor 1.6 for battery regeneration that can run on gas, hydrogen, or other alternative fuels and approx 370hp? I find this very interesting. Love the design, with a bit of tweaking it can be seen as a descendant of the RX line. Handle? That’s what Mazda is great at. Mazda, don’t make it stupid expensive. Then it could be a possibility for a hybrid in my driveway.

Really beautiful. Futuristic, elegant, organic and sporty.
I hope it gets a good price point, is reasonably light to match its low centre of gravity for optimum performance and that its Not subsonic fast, fun doesn't necessarily mean fast.
I think I've read a rumor it's between $70k-$80k but dont hold me to that

It reminds me of the Alfa Romeo 8C, which is a huge compliment. It brings to mind some of the best designs and concepts of the 90s while feeling futuristic and fresh. Build it as is, please. Or as is, but with a stick.

I have to say, I was very disappointed when toyota showed us the FT1 and called it "new supra", to then produced a shape I still couldn't adjust myself to like. I'll never buy the supra after I saw the FT1. Now I absolutely love every bit of this Mazda RX and l like my cake the way I fall in love with. It's the very reason why I would go back to have it again and again!.
This Mazda's design is impeccabley perfect and I wouldn't accept it in any way different from how I saw it in first sight. It'll be unfair to call it Japanese Ferrari for I consider this Mazda has more sexapeel in a Japanese way!

Having this car with combustion engine and affordable price will win all age recognition. And hopefully it'll with two small seats at back like previous generation. I'd love to take my little children with me to get them addicted to sport cars the way my dad got me hooked to them. I'll wait and see how will it end. I hope it's not going to be disappointing like Toyota shape and Nissan z performance for I loved the z shape.

I think it needs to be a RX, not a MX. MX is supposed to be an affordable sports car for every one. This looks more upscale than that, and would be better as an RX at around 50k entry point.

Far prefer my new MX5 homura 2ltr. Why would I want to buy a hardtop? I've sat in the rf and that can't compare with the roadster. Sorry Mazda but you wouldn't persuade me to part with my cash for this.

@lensoprezole5322 I never said it was! Mazda chose the SP designation to disassociate this concept from both but on its own merits alone I prefer my MX5. Mainly because I prefer the soft top but on looks as well. I'm on my second nd and I have never owned a car that has had so much attention. People just want to stop and chat about it.
I must say doors are the worst decision. It will be a disaster in parking space.
Gulwing or full style Lambo doors "Scissors" would be better for parking space
it’s subpar design wise, needs bigger headlights/ tail lights are horrible/love the suicide doors and overall shape of the car/ Change the engine to a normal inline 4 or 6 /rims are a joke copying tesla model s rim cap design. ill give it a 5/10 jobs definitely not done
FUCK no the doors are stupid AF. Headlights fit the body perfectly and the taillights are on point. And this needs to be pure electric pushing 500HP.
