  • The Fixed Filter Bank - A companion video to my last upload 'Sounds of the Seventies' in which I use my 70's-inspired modular synth to subjectively evoke some of my favourite synth music from that era: • Sounds of the Seventie...
As promised, this video is focussing on the ways I've been using the AJH Synth Fixed Filter Bank 914 to sculpt my arp sounds, and create all-analogue, living, breathing mech-dragons out of just some simple pink noise. Turn on subtitles for an explanation.
Audio Damage Dubstation2 delay, EOS2 and ShimmerFX reverbs were added during recording.
I'd strongly recommend reading the description in the aforementioned video if you're interested in this module. It's based on the 914 fixed filter bank that could often be seen in the huge Moog Modular Model 55. Such an instrument I'd dream of owning, but could never afford, so having this monster in Eurorack along with the rest of the rig is pretty awesome. I got switched on to the FFB's by watching a demo of one in a Model 15 (much smaller than a 55, with a smaller 8 band FFB). It struck me that some of the sounds I'd admired from those early electronic albums were created using these modules.
    Other related videos I'd recommend:
Analog Ambient Performance 1: • 'Miserere' (Melodic An...
Analog Ambient Performance 2: • 'Salt' (Melodic Analog...
Both of which are works-in-progress for a future album.

Excuse the glitches in some of the footage - my MacBook packed up this week, so I had to revert to my 2006 Windows PC with budget software, which continually produces rendering errors. Hopefully I can get the Mac fixed ASAP, or else UA-cam is toast :(

The gentle transition from radio static to sound at 5:45 is simply the best.
Your Eurorack has almost as many knobs as the Moog 55 :-)

Gorgeous sounds! You're showcasing AJH's modules really well. This is the kind of thing that makes me go "to hell with it, I'm buying a complete MINIMOD system today". Dangerous stuff :-)

Thank you, I'm really pleased to hear that, it's a great sounding instrument. I hope you give in and get one, I'm chuffed to bits with mine.

@@DreamsOfWires Realistically, what will probably happen is that when I finally give in and start a Eurorack, I'll get the AJH classic VCO and VCF + a few choice Mutable Instrument modules, and then dream on and take it from there. Probably tie it in with VCV Rack to start with, until I feel committed enough to go full blown Euro. I'm really tempted by the NiftyCASE right now, great price, and that will keep the number of modules down to begin with, which is probably a good thing.

That sounds like a good place to start. I started small with modular and progressed from there, as did most I'd imagine.

Fantastic work. Love it! I posted a comment on your Part 1 video but it was apparently eaten by UA-cam gremlins. Part 1 was fantastic as well. As I've been researching the collapse of civilizations lately I found the footage especially poignant.

Thank you. That's a shame about the comment, I've had a little trouble posting and seeing replies lately too.

How do you like the fixed filter compared to the transistor ladder? I'm trying to decide between those or a Rossum evolution filter to get some 70s Moog sound in my rack. Any suggestions? Beautiful patch btw!

Thanks again. I'd say the two complement each other extremely well if you have the budget. I like a lot of the sounds Schulze and others got from their Moog modulars in the 70's, and this combo is superb for such sounds, the degree of tonal shaping possible with both together is awesome.
