- CHARLIE PORTER NEW RAJNA Bb! Check out this video... then consider getting on his waiting list for SKYPE lessons! Charlie's new album coming out in November is just stunning. In the mean time, hope you enjoy this video of his first notes on his new horn!
Charlie is one of the coolest trumpet players on the scene, great player special player and teacher.
What I've noticed in a number of Monette videos is, as dramatic as the high notes sound on these trumpets, what is at least as startling is the improvement of the very lowest notes. Usually these are so raw -- I want to say "raunchy!" -- and unstable in tone... I've even seen a video in which a trumpeter said the instrument's lowest note was the written g#. When I asked in a comment, doesn't it actually go as low as f#, since that's what all the orchestration books say, he got very testy and defensive! He clearly didn't even want to admit the trumpet had those notes, because he couldn't play them well! But all the Monette trumpets I've heard produce the full bottom range with a firmness, clarity, depth, stability, and yes, beauty of tone that I could never have imagined was even possible.
This guy taught me at the Blaine harbour music camp, and he is AMAZING
You look really happy about it. Its world class. You deserve it. God bless
Congratulations, Charlie. Beautiful sound, beautiful playing, and what a gorgeous trumpet. 🌞👍🏻🎺
Charlie's simply amazing. Great trumpeter. And, he sounds incredible on his new Monette (of course).

Is the mouthpiece on that horn actually part of the trumpet? (I'm a sax player, but interested in all instruments and how they're made) - Ah, wait up, I've just seen the same question below.
Yes kind of ... it’s integral but threaded

Is it just me or is the mouthpiece a part of the trumpet itself? ;-;
Hello Tyler! We have been building trumpets with integral mouthpieces, called 'RAJA' trumpets since 1990. We consider the RAJA trumpets to be the finest trumpets we make. Originally, yes, the mouthpieces of RAJA instruments were built right into the trumpet. These days, RAJA instruments have mouthpieces that are threaded, meaning that they can be screwed into and out of the horn if need be. Here is a video from 2010 that shows the introduction of RAJA trumpets with threaded integral mouthpieces, like the one you've seen here in Charlie's new horn: ua-cam.com/video/Oau-LQXIbqA/v-deo.html
Thanks for watching our video!
