I'm 46 years old. Originally, it was the Robot, Michael Jackson (and the Jackson) was the first I ever saw doing it. All of my friends in cub scouts used to present their moves. Later came the movie Flash Dance. The world saw Popping and Break Dancing for the first time. It was around long before the movie. I'm from Brooklyn, originally from Harlem, 128th St. Holla if you know my culture.
For those who know the real roots of Hip Hop, this was used, played, and Jamed by the best of them. This is Old Skool for real, the schoolyard jams in the Bronx, thats the memories. For those of you that don't know, stop hatting and learn. If you took time to listen to it then learn what it means to have roots in someting.
As a real Bboy I must say this stuff is classic. True hiphop at its finest but honestly HipHop as we all knew it is Dead! HipHop had a long good run but all good things must come to an end & yes it is artists like Drake, lil wayne, Rihanna & many others who killed it HipHop has died just like the many other genres B4 it... such as jazz, Doo wop, Rock & role, Disco & many others. But the memorie of true hiphop will continue to live on through Bboyz, PopLockers, DJs & Graffiti Artest's underground
I'm 46 years old. After I saw the movie Flash Dance I changed my style. Originally, it was the Robot,Michael Jackson (and the Jackson) was the first I ever saw doing it. All of my friends in cub scouts used to present their moves. Later came the movie Flash Dance. The world saw Popping and Break Dancing for the first time. It was around long before the movie. Who ever spun this mix knows what he was doing, this is simply fiya!!!!! LOL if I spun this at some of the parties i did, the bboyz woulda took over lol!!!
i am a bboy and have been for about 2-3 years now and i think that this is a great song, and to all you bboys out there stay at it because being a bboy has showed that its like being in a sacred brother hood.....PEACE
love this, took a long time to track down lessons 1-3 in old record shops when i was younger, but now its so easy, slowly getting all my old vinyl tunes again in shiny mp3 lol
NeverEndingCrew in the house. This is a solid mix. Up in tell the 2nd minute those tracks were from the Bboy Summit. If I remember correctly it was Bboy Summit 2. Peace.
The beat at 1:48, is driving me nuts.... where is this sample from... I was addicted to it from age 14 when bomb the bass entered the dragon and turned me off my righteous path of being an astronaut.... the f****rs... now I am a builder, nearly 40, travelled the world ten times over... BUT still that beat.... I drum... I ponder...
@KenKashi7 If you mean the bit with "It's Time", it's the electro classic "Al Naafyish (The Soul)" by Hashim. This mix contains a lot of short snippets, so you might have meant the beats and the vocal just before that.
thank you brotha me personally i'm a funkateer! so i dig om some old school g funk lil wayne cant even touch some old school warren g or ice cube! this shit is classic for a reason. its funky and you just caant't sit still. you get mesmorized by the funk and sont even know your allready groovin. ar roger said "i can make ya dance if you want me to"
sugarhill was three YEARS ahead of malcom. rapper's delight was the VERY FIRST hip-hop single to make any money (1979) where malcom (the art of noise really) came out in '82. hip hop was already big by the time malcom hopped on board and there were some hip-hop singles before rapper's delight too.
@cardboardboxing321 I think it's one of the early mixes by Steinski and Mass Media. Steinski was the cut-up king. (He didn't scratch like Grandmaster Flash, but he dug out loads of old songs that were seminal influences on later samplists).
SpaYdee and DanceMan are telling the trueth...i just wanna add one more thing that most people dont know...the term bboy/break boy also came from such phrases as " yo, why you breakin on me" it started out as a slang word...just cought on and made sence that your breakin on someone and also dancin to the break beat...so i agree with what they say..i just also think.. a bboy is breaking the limits of dance...and of course style..but u know what i mean :) much love and respect to the bboys
This mix contains mashed up bits of Lesson 3, Feelin James - Double Dee & Steinski, Hashim - The Soul, Jive Rhythm Trax 122, & Nuclear Holocaust - The Future.
The first bit is Double D and stienski lesson 3 mixed with the Feelin' james 12'', (not the tommy boy one) followed by Hashim Al Nafish . the beat after that was released on a breaks album around 1985 and named as a BPM (can't remember the albums name. had a solid blue cover. live to pop dance to it on electro rock. End ...more Nafish.
what's up b-boys!! whats the name of the track on 4:15 that track is hot! i remember auditioning for Beat streat with this track!! i never paid attention how dope this track is!! by the way----> YO NLBBOY THANKS FOR POSTING THIS MIX!! IT BRINGS BACK MEMORIES!! THANKS. peace to old and new B-boys!!
history schmistory. back in the day, i was into uprock, the most "violent & combat oriented" school of b-boying (because i could NEVER master windmills & headspins etc) and appreciated it because i understood it to be an ALTERNATIVE to fighting & violence along with the mostly positive attitude of EARLY hip-hop and took it to heart as a way to vent my frustrations in a POSITIVE & constructive way only to see that positivity evaporate around 1990 with gangsta rap, house & fucking technotronic!
even in the BEST battle i ever had when i got smoked by a wicked quick capoera sporting Latino uprocking, i stayed positive and shook his hand afterwards because it was exhilirating and i didn't tie my entire self worth up into it. to me, hip-hop isn't just a "style of music" or even a collection of 4 elements, but it's a way of thinking. it's a way to say "yeah, the world is fucked up, but it all means NOTHING when i'm in the zone & battling" (to improve MYSELF) in any of the 4 elements
can someone tell me what are the titles of the songs used in this video? I've been searching for them. Can't find them: Philippine Islands Assasin @ Showtime 042310
4:15 WHAT'S THAT SONG PLEASE 😭😭
this is a well done remix of some well known bboy beats

@German Valdez, It's Jam On The Groove by Ralph MacDonald from his 1976 Sound Of A Drum LP. The 12" was real hot in N.Y.C. back in 1977.
i agree mixtapes are hard to dance 2 but its really awesome when u can pull off a good move and it magically goes with the song

bboy stands for beat boy because we bboys dance to our own beat , a bboy and a breakdancer are two different things
i used to break to these tunes , great years was the 80s
@KenKashi7 If you mean the bit with "It's Time", it's the electro classic "Al Naafyish (The Soul)" by Hashim. This mix contains a lot of short snippets, so you might have meant the beats and the vocal just before that.

sugarhill was three YEARS ahead of malcom. rapper's delight was the VERY FIRST hip-hop single to make any money (1979) where malcom (the art of noise really) came out in '82. hip hop was already big by the time malcom hopped on board and there were some hip-hop singles before rapper's delight too.
This is called Lessons by Steinski I believe. Has a bunch of classic breaks and cuts. First of its kind.
@cardboardboxing321 I think it's one of the early mixes by Steinski and Mass Media. Steinski was the cut-up king. (He didn't scratch like Grandmaster Flash, but he dug out loads of old songs that were seminal influences on later samplists).
