Advent is the time when we remember the coming of God into our world, to be with us, to identify with us, and to save us from the penalty of sin.
What does it mean for Jesus to deliver us from our failures and its consequences? That is what you and I need to do, to talk to Jesus as we come to the bread and the wine today.
Matthew has written this book for the disciples of Jesus and as you and I get to know him, as we grow in awareness of Jesus and the presence of Jesus, we are also growing in the knowledge of our own selves. Who Jesus is, helps us learn about ourselves as much as we learn about Jesus.

Where I would disagree is 'God coming himself' I see it more as Jesus, the second Adam had a personal relationship with God, like the first Adam did. Jesus loved God and obeyed God unto death for us instead of eating of the tree of the knowledge of Good and Evil. Jesus, agreed with God to take the wrath that we deserve upon himself. Anyways, good sermon.
