We need a Davie McPhail fly tying book. Don't get me wrong the videos are outstanding but a book of Davie goodness would be a treasure.

A nice wee wet. Simplicity is surely the essence of perfection. Greatly appreciated down-under in NZ.

I love your patterns of the PT nymphs. I only really started tying about 3months ago and I have to thank you Davie, i have learnt alot of techniques and skills just from watching your videos. The patterns you use work extremely well here in Ireland!
    Kind regards,
    James

I managed to tie a pretty real looking maggot. Not sure if this method has been used before, but I “invented” this by mistake... I used a surgical glove, cut into thin strips and white thread. Tied on the strip, wrapped it so it tapered to either end, fat in the middle, tied off the thread and... a simple maggot on a hook! I was amazed at how real it looked!!

Interesting version. As another comment noted, in the US we use peacock herl for the thorax. One reason is that the thorax "bump" prevents the hackle from lying flat against the body when the fly gets wet. ( That may not be an issue with a stiffer hackle, though. ) I'll tie a bunch of this version too for my Summer fishing trip to Montana. Very nice demo, as always. Thanks for posting.

    Excellent, simple and effective wet!
I use this pattern with a touch of red, and it's an absolute killer for big chub and trout.
    Glad to see you're well!
    Regards, Alex

I make a very similar soft hackle fly but use shiny bronze fibres from wild turkey body feathers my cousin gave me,
Copper rib too and also peacock at the head!....good trout catcher! Thanks for sharing!

Interesting the differences in the between the GB and US takes on the PT. Love the Spanish Needle style head on yours. Here the peacock is normally the thorax. Everyone needs a bunch of these in their box. Cleanly tied as always. Thanks!

Hi Davie, i never thought of tying this pattern as a wet fly but I do see how it could work on a nymph set up in our rivers. I will tie a few and try them out. Cheers mate. Harera
