I understand what you mean. To me, the word "Watergun" resonated so much because I have a young son. Seeing him and his friends playing with waterguns and the very sudden shift into young adulthood where the reality of deadly weapons take over... grabbed me emotionally. This song is growing on me and I give it a 8 or 8.5. I'm afraid it won't qualify in a televote only semi (I miss the juries as I more often agree with them, except when it comes to rock songs which I often like).

This entry is so underrated and some people try so hard to stitch a narrative out of it. If I had one word to describe this entry, it would be ‘tasteful.’
Truth is, I didn’t expect it to become my top 1 (but it did). It reminds me of my winner from 2020, ‘Grow,’ which ticked similar boxes for me. I’m sure it will wow live. Rooting for qualification at least.

This song surprised me like Netherlands this year. Not a music style I'm normally into, however I really enjoy them both. I love his tone, reminds me of Rick Astley. I too love the melody, the song has lovely musical layers. I even like the outro. Hope he can bring it for the stage. Thanks Rachel.

@@The_Spooky_Boi I can answer, as I agree with her. I have had several talks with my young son about this subject. We talk a lot about the challenges women face, but the hard truth is that our young men can one day face the ultimate one: War. It's a philosophical question not to be taken lightly. What is a life worth and who and what is it worth sacrificing for? As mothers we see our young ones play with waterguns to then possibly one day see them used as canonfodder. Brutal reality.

@Tale of Ita really? I've never had that sort of conversation but I see that you could be worried even if the child doesn't care about the topic and forgets about it.

@@The_Spooky_Boi Hi! Sorry, I didn't get the notification about your question so I didn't answer to it earlier. I agree with Tale of Ita, she explained it really well even if I personally haven't had this conversation with my sons. It has been more of a inner discussion for me.
Besides, someone asked me a similar question elsewhere, specifically, whether my sons are in the army so the song has an impact on me. I'll copy my answer here - I'm pretty sure that many mothers can relate to this song even without their sons being in the army. But yes, my eldest son is just about to begin his mandatory military service and there is something to think about. Also, there are several wars going on in the world, even right here in Europe, where young lives are lost every day. Besides that, I live in a country that has got free from soviet occupation just some decades ago and we won't be safe as long as we have a neighbour with an aggressor mentality and imperial ambitions even in 21st century. A war is tragedy for many young men and their families.

There's been some critism on this song coming from Switserland (an ever neutral country) this year, but that didnt even come up in my mind becuase it struck a very different chord in me. It immediately reminded me of kids saying they want to be a soldier later and go into the army without realising the actual horror of what it means, almost being brainwashed by army toys and such. This song really resonates with me because of that

It actually fits even more. Even a short conscript time can be real eye opening to reality of war, weapons and different what if scenarios. All swiss men have to do a military service or opt in civil service or be discharged from those. Swizerland is a neutral country, but that situation is reached by tradition and policy of not seeking conquests and remaining unallied. But to keep situation like that Switzerland has turned their highly defendable country to a fortress. So message of not wanting war can really well be told by a swiss. If every country was so highly defended and non agressive we wouldnt have wars.

I think this song does a great job of being blunt about the real consequences and impacts of war. Music has the power to change perspective. I think the lyrics in this song really remind the listener that there are so many victims in war. Young men are propagandized and manipulated into fighting wars under the false pretence that it will be easy, fun, and make them heroes. Even though the people telling them this know they're heading towards their deaths. Watergun to me is, in essence, the musical equivalent of the movie All Quiet On The Western Front.

I don’t see any issue with the water gun lyric it seems to fit perfectly as far as I can perceive. It sounds quite good actually because waterguns are things kids play with and I suppose he’s singing that real warfare is no game. It’s a great song and I really hope that this qualifies. Last year I wasn’t shocked that Marius Bear qualified because he was obvious jury bait. But without juries in the semi’s this year, it’s harder to say whether this will qualify but I think it probably will if there is any justice because it’s a great song

But times changed, when wars are involved, boys might got PTSD when they heard GUNs. To me, plastic guns or waterguns are so so cool when I was a child to play with my friends... Wars should not and never exist

One of my favourite songs this year, top notch lyrics to say the least. 👍🏽🕊☮
The comment section, or at least the majority of it, really surprises me, that in the dawn of the 3rd decade of the 21st century, I notice so much hatred towards pacifist, anti-war messages, either through songs or through various political statements. Really are you so eager to grab a gun and use it? Perhaps you are bulletproof, in accordance to the lyrics, and you think that a war is a game. 😒😞
Yes, in Ukraine, Yemen, Somalia, and dozen other countries, people are dying, either children and women or men from both sides of the front, because some militarist "men" that act as politicians, from their pristine luxurious offices or shelters, give orders to people, souls they have never met. People they think they own...Do you want to be frustrated? Be with politicians and militarists that think like they own your (our) existence.
There is no conspiracy against Ukraine, or any conspiracy whatsoever...please.🙄
P.S.: Switzerland may indeed be a neutral country (does not take part in conflicts in other countries) BUT army service is still compulsory for all men that reach the age of 19, and most importantly Switzerland does participate in international peacekeeping missions!

This one is really not for me - but I agree that the musicality and vocal skill are really there! this one is also pulling up a lot of controversy which might reflect in the comment section. i know the song was written pre-invasion of Ukraine, but of course it cannot exist in a vacuum and music is always up for interpretation by those who listen. i do think Remo is singing from his heart and has no ill will, but I think this song could have benefited from a less heavy hand in its lyrical content.

Switzerland seem to have a thing for deep piano-driven music. I still remember how the conclusion of last year's song sent shivers down my spine the first time I heard it. This one's track is also quite pretty indeed.
However, I'm sceptical about this one qualifying from semi 1. It's not bad, but I cannot honestly remember it after even a few listens. Also, this is pretty much the only genre Switzerland has sent since 2020, so not sure how it will do for them again. This being said, the message is one that resonates and there may be enough voters who appreciate the musical quality of it enough. Wouldn't be too surprised either way.

Some have critisized the lyrics saying that 'politics' shouldn't be taken to Eurovision but honestly I think there are enough songs 'breaking my heart' bla bla, Sadly war is part of human nature so if they write a song about it I don't see what the problem is. I don't know if it will get to the final, but personally it has more meaning than other 'cheesey' love songs' I've heard so far.

Come on, there's even "peace, peace, love, love".
Anti-war songs have existed in ESC since forever, some even won. There are at least 4 this year.
That a guy from Suisse sings it suits very well when you take the country's foreign policy into account.
When Russia attacked Ukraine they condemned it, a break with centuries.

This one feels quite pretentious to me. It's similar to how I feel about Cyprus actually, but with a radio peace ballad instead of a radio heartbreak ballad, in that it feels totally hollow. The instrumentation is solid but there's nothing in this song that makes me come back to it, and I honestly forget it's on the roster a lot of the time. The lyrics are... questionable I think. I totally agree on the Watergun point, it doesn't fit that well and kinda trivialises it. The lyrics have gotten criticism for being tone deaf considering the current situation; I think it's a bit unfair to apply this song to the situation in Ukraine as it's just a standard 'what's become of the world' ballad, but I can see why when you consider this is being sent to a contest that Ukraine is not only competing in but co-hosting. At the very least, some of the lyrics could have absolutely been better executed, for example 'body bags that we've become' doesn't sit right with me at all.

I think this is the first song in a while that we’re going to have to disagree on, Rachel 😀
I’m not a fan of it at all. I think it’s a combination of his “modern” voice that a lot of young male singers are doing these days (see Greece), and the song’s subject matter - fighting and war. We’ve got a couple of songs referencing it this year, but this strikes me as the most forced.
I was going to say it may not qualify, but I well remember your reaction last year when they were the first country announced in the first semi 😆
