@@psywarltd.1984 There wouldnt be any drama if Roland was simply releasing interesting products (or did true to original reimaginations of classics, not a buggy bad designed crap). Funny I made this post almost 5 years ago and nothing changed with them, its unfortunate. (and I actually own and use more Roland than Behringer synths)

I have it and I absolutely love it. My only issue is that the vocoder with inbuilt synth is only 4 voice and only allows you to play as low as C1, the only work around I've found is to use the pitch slider on the bottom left to slide it down an octave. This is odd as it clearly with go lower but just not when played. I discovered this when trying to play some chords via MIDI in Logic Pro. Anything lower than C1 just plays the same note (C1). I hope Behringer can fix this with a software update, but who knows.

    • @gstormelectro
      @gstormelectro  5 років тому +1

The note range is due to the fixed divide down voicing, no software update can fix that. This was the exact same limitation as on the original VP-330. It may be possible to install a mod to shift the pitch of the master oscillator - but say bye bye to the warranty.

    • @OneDarkMartian

I have the Prophet 6 and the Waldorf Quantum, which are the best keys on the market, and they have the same wobble in the keys. Some polyphonic keys like Waldorf Blofeld and Access Virus have high-end FATAR keys and they also have that wobble sensation, which is normal.
The problem with poor quality keys is when you have a polyphonic synthesizer with after touch function and they end up having a plastic that is not very resistant to the pressure of that action, that is when they break in the softest area.
The knobs are really important when they are made of plastic, they tend to fail a lot in their functions when they are digital because they use numeric encoders and if something is not detected, it starts to not work smoothly. In analogue ones, the problem is dirt and cleaning them is a very uncomfortable task.
I have an MS20 mini bought in 2014 and its plastic knobs have not given me any problems yet, I have had it for more than 10 years and it works great, but the Blofeld has already presented problems with its digital control.
As it is a Behringer VC340 replica (Roland VP 330) I don't think it is necessary to worry too much, it is a vocoder with keys and an assembly keyboard where you can transform many sound sources into strange things.
This is really a really exact and faithful clone, which Behringer shows once again that it is capable of cloning or rescuing those physical hardware tools for audio processing that have been given in the 80s, 90s and 2000s.
We have countless artists over time who used this keyboard for psychedelic music, disco, funk, italo disco, dance music, hiphop, reggae, dancehall, ragga, electro funk.
I guess The Egyptian Lover used this thing along with his 808, as did Cyborton and other techno and house music bands in Detroit, also groups like ABBA, Boney M, Daft Punk, Dr.Dre, Prince...
A great piece of hardware, it was certainly unique for many decades, as much as Berhinger is hated as a brand, they manage to give away gems from the past at a ridiculous price due to the great demand for plugins that clone these tools for voice or sound sources, where it has no historical value, but a great instrumental value, since as an instrument it is really a very special combo.
By the way, the retired engineer and inventor Noriyasu San participated in this replica, who participated 100% in this reduced replica, with the same characteristics as he did for Roland.
The original also does not have a sustain pedal, but it could not be plugged into any place in another country or continent, Behringer surpasses this for many, it seems that the problem of its adapters has been solved for its keyboards and mini-synths.
    Thank you for this video.

Nice review. I have it too, and couldn't be more pleased! I've wanted one for a long time, and now here it is for relatively little money and it's built like a tank while sounding the part. As for the wiggly keys: it's no more wiggly than any of my other synths, including the rev 2.

If I had paid a few grand for an old used original Roland, I'd feek really bad now: Behringer has created the perfect clone. This thing is way better than the new digital Roland. It's indistuinghuisable from the real analogue Roland back in the days. I now realize why all the Jupiter 8 owners are selling their jup for the price of a car: if Behringer makes their JuP 8 clone as good as this one, the real jup 8 is worth shit. The sounds are spot on. Best vocoder for that price. Plus you get the strings and human voices sections. There are some mechanical flaws tho. The headphones do not output stereo (but the left and right main outs are fine). Also the pedal feature is not all it's cracked up to be. If you disengage the pedal it will still play notes and if you happen to have your voice going through the input when you disengage the pedal, the notes will linger on the last syllable your speaking. I won't be using the headphones or pedal very often, but it would be nice if they worked properly.

If this had an additional octave it would be an instant buy even if it cost proportionally more. If they're only going to put 3 octaves on there, they might as well go all the way make it mini keys and make it compact and portable. Really strange decision for this kind of keyboard. I hope some day they come to their senses and release a proper 4 octave version. I'll be the first to buy.

The current manual states the VC340 will be able to respond to incoming MIDI sysex commands. But Behringer haven't released any MIDI implementation documents yet. My feeling is they are probably working on the update and document right now. First thing they will need is a unique MIDI product device ID from the MIDI Manufacturers Association. AFAIK, a device ID is not necessarily required to transmit/receive general note on/off data for product release.

Great review. I love my VC340, but I wish it had a 4 octave keyboard, as one the original, to take advantage of the full range of the divide down design. Although it's possible to exploit it with an external MIDI keyboard controller (I use my DeepMind 12 for that). I don't know if you know it, but the VC340, as well as the original VP330, have a peculiar feature when you use a footswitch pedal with the vocoder, where it will hold the last modulator signal. For example, if you say "oh" in the mic, and hold down the footswitch pedal, it will hold that "oh" for as long as you press it, and for as long as you play a note. There is no "standard" keyboard sustain pedal on this machine to hold down played notes (exactly like on the VP330). That's why Vangelis, a famous VP330 user, used some kind of clips to hold down notes for drones sounds from his VP330. You can do the same on the VC340. Also, the VC340 adds velocity control (selectable between fixed at 127 and variable, by holding down the two ensemble buttons upon power-up, which toggles between the two modes).

It almost makes up for the no sustain pedal thing. Which I think a firmware update w/ MIDI sustain pedal response would be great.

The only bad thing is no ensemble for the strings.

ensemble is always on for the string section, so it's the opposite - only bad thing is you couldn't turn off ensemble if you wanted to
