I was 14 years old in June of 1983, and I probably listened to this when it first aired. I grew up in Chicago and I always listened to Steve and Garry. And for a glorious 35 minutes, I was 14 again. Thanks for that. I'm now going to binge on the rest of your Steve and Garry stuff.

Listening to these pioneers as a teen brought me the escape I needed. Brilliant improvisational radio. The laughter every day really made a difference in my life.

@@hoss-lk4bg I didn’t grow up in the city. I was in a suburb less than an hour from Chicago
In other words, “ outside Chicago “
      Does that help?

Grew up in Michigan City, all our local TV and radio was Chicago. Steve and Garry was a large influence on my life. AM, and FM WLS, and WLUP. I would wake up early to hear Coho lips breakfast club.

I always believed Howard Stern ripped these guys off, Dahl wss always talking about his relationship with his wife, he hated his general manager and just winged it on air which is all Stetn did too, also did parordies of popular songs of the day.

Stern totally ripped Dahl off, He listened when he worked in Detroit, and stole bits. He'll never admit it though.

Stern was influenced by Steve and Gary, he admits it. Rush Limbaugh even mentions the influence they had on his career.

I can be specific. Stern completely lifted. The Paul brothers concept. They were the absolute best.

grew up in Arcadia Terrace district of Chi, listened to S&G all the time. It's possible I listened to this. This was the same month they were doing their legendary TV show.

During this time, Steve and Garry had a local tv show, I believe called “It’s too early”, for a few months, which they referenced to as the morning show they could not talk about.
I think they were at their funniest and had great success during this period at WLS. Ironically enough at the time, they felt it was a come down to be on the afternoon drive after having mornings on WLUP, aka The Loop. But Larry Lujack was still on the mornings at WLS, so he wasn’t going anywhere.

something like that, they actually had a few different TV shows. A for effort hun

Agree w/ that - for my money they were at their best when it wasn’t a “bit” just organic and then it would spin off into gold - and this period really represented that groove

I started out listening to Lujak, then he got replaced by these two. Then I listened for years and years. Then they went to Loop, and then it became mvp. And everything went down the drain from there.

I think for a minute Steve had a show simulcast here in Milwaukee. I never really got to carried away with that show. I think I started getting more selective in my FM listening and cranked the knob to the left, down to public radio... Go figure

I tried listening to NPR's All Things Considered once while driving. They had an hourlong, serious discussion of why mayonnaise tastes creamy.

I was able to hear EARLY Steve Dahl in Detroit, 1976-1977 at W4 in Detroit. I was heartbroken when he went to Chicago. On a good day in mid-Michigan, you could pick up Steve and Gary's show in the afternoon, especially in the winter.
A shame that they had to break up. Dahl was Stern before Stern. He just wasn't as obsessed with fame as Howard. Just listened to "Kid in the Crawl" this morning.

Anyone remember "The Secret Celebrity" contest in the mid-80's? How about the song 11x3?
