Major battles in Rafah and in Zeytoun in Gaza City. Other news from the fronts, and then some Iraq history sourced to Ali Kadri. Apologies in advance: I forgot the wasps.
I thought the same thing when he was shredding the charter and telling people that they were the ones who were doing it. it was a perfect analogy for how they are operating in gaza, and saying "hamas is killing these civilians" when they are the ones doing it It was wild because people were either gasping or laughing at the dude, and Palestine got applause
Every accusarion is a confession. Every breach of UN resolutions, each defiance of ICJ rulings, every war crime and violation of the Geneva Conventions is just what he demonstrated there. This is exactly what they have been doing for 75 years.
As they say, with these people, every accusation is a confession. Every UN resolution ignored, each ICJ ruling dismissed, every war crime committed and each Geneva Convention violated is exactly what he demonstrated there. That is precisely what they have been doing for 75 years. I'd say that was a perfect enactment of Israeli policy.
Ali Kadri analyses and perspectives are quite insightful. Iran in the 80s was just detoxing from empire. What happened to Irak was an absolute tragedy! And if the Arab nations don´t unite and get themselves together, they may venture the same fate... The CIA tentacles don´t sleep; but let´s hope the wiser Iran, Russia, and China will help Arab National liberations, I am really hoping for this, very much so. Thank you Justin for giving us the summary of the fronts: it helps so much to retain some kind of optimism...

As a man who lived , wasted and traumatized his precious young ages under that Iraq and iran war and witnessed those horrific war atrocities including chemical attacks, “ although I agree with parts of Ali’ Ghadri’s book about war causes and Iranian Mullahs’s ambitions to expand their theological doctrine worldwide , I must say Sadam’s ambitions to invade portions of southern Arabic-speaking of Iran and attach them to his pan-Arabic imaginative empire was equally lethal , destructive , regressive and betrayal to people of both sides and democracy and socialism. I don’t think we can call a man who had no second thoughts about killing his own and iranian civilians with chemical weapon. We cannot ignore reality and crucify and portray Sadam and his system as progressives , secular and above all socialists . personally have seen and experienced those brutal chemical attacks . I survived but some of my friends didn’t ! And some till today bearing consequences, so let’s stay with the facts and not to get distracted !
Thanks for your commonsense reporting. You mentioned a book examining capitalism and the waste. Waste of our lives as bodies for their system. The war looks devastating at this time.
May 8, 2024 “It is not only deeply immoral that the U.S. continues to send weapons to Israel that are used to commit war crimes - it is also illegal,” said Noam Perry, Strategic Research Coordinator for the American Friends Service Committee.
Israel was used by the US, if I remember correctly, to transfer some weapons to Iran during the Iran Contra affair. So it wasn't Israel selling weapons to Iran but the US selling weapons and Israel facilitating the deal. This was, of course, done without the consent of Khomeini, the leader of Iran. It was a huge scandal and caused great anger in Iran when Khomeini found out.
Claiming that Iran was to blame for the Iran-Iraq war is, as you guessed, an Arab nationalist view/myth. Saddam believed that he could use the chaos of revolution in Iran to occupy Iran so he tore up the 1975 Algiers Agreement on TV and proceeded to invade Iran. The claim that Iran had occupied parts of Iraq before the war comes from Arab nationalists unhappiness with parts of the Algiers deal which was and still is binding international law.
Regarding the article you discussed and Iraq's decision to seek peace after a year of war, as far as I know, Iraq was still occupying parts of Iran and did not want to accept responsibility for starting the war by invading Iran. So it doesn't seem to me that an intransigent clergy had anything to do with it.
Arab nationalism often overshadows the Arab academia’s take on Iran Arab issues, the complex Iran Iraq war (or the Syrian dirty war which Iran supported the Syrian government side) is no exception. I believe Ali Kadir's analysis in this regard suffers from the same problem. Let's note the following: Saddam’s Iraq invaded Iran with the dream of annexing the oil rich province of Iran, when Iran was in chaos and turmoil due to the Revolution. The Iranian military was heavily dependent on the US for spare parts for aircraft and heavy equipment but it refused to provide them. Iran had to purchase arms from the black market, which was probably managed by the US and Israel (Iran Contra Affairs), as by supporting both sides militarily they wanted Iran and Iraq to bleed each other to death. Should Saddam and the Islamic Republic be smarter and not fall in this trap? Yes, but unfortunately we don't live in a perfect world. Iran was helpless when the Iraqi missiles, aircraft and chemical bombs hit the residential areas killing thousands of civilians, as it had no means to confront them. In fact, the frustration due to inability to defend the country meaningfully was the foundation for the idea of building Iran's current powerful domestic defense infrastructure. Sadam's Iraq did propose a ceasefire when it was losing the war but Iran turned it down as it didn't trust Saddam. This is a complex and controversial topic in Iran. Some believe that rejecting the peace offer at that time was a mistake. Finally, the US invasion of Iraq was a devastating blow to Iraq and the region and it paved the ground for where the region is now. However, that should not be a justification for Saddam's regime invasion of Iran which killed hundreds of thousands of people and destroyed the two countries.
Riffing on Rocko: In my protest circles the Palestinian armed resistance currently known as Hamas sometimes feels like the dirty secret or the shameful criminal relative that cannot be acknowledged and certainly not celebrated. I haven’t heard condemnation, I haven’t heard anything at all. I bring up the armed resistance and with most (not all) I usually find myself in a monologue, as others are reluctant and uncomfortable talking about it, or actively turn away. And on some popular alt media shows like the Grayzone Hamas military actions are not discussed. The armed axis of resistance will be decisive in the fall of the Zionist entity and I believe some day they will be celebrated. Too bad they can’t be celebrated more now in the pro-Palestinian movement in the West.
Could be that's the strategic position, neither to condemn nor to praise. Condemnation weakens the peace movement, but it isn't clear that praise strengthens it. Still thinking about this one.
I watch Richard Medhurst and of course he talks about resistance and armed resistance which I see as guerilla type warfare used in Vietnam and Central and South America and Africa 🌍 for decades.
Khadri’s criticism is misplaced because Saddam seemed peace when the tide of the war turned and could he be trusted after acting on behalf of the hegemony
Just try to imagine how hard the Iranians were laughing when they saw Bush standing before that banner “ Mission Accomplished “ 😂 Unintended consequences of stupidity and arrogance Long live the resistance and the people of Middle East 🇮🇷🇵🇸🇮🇶🇱🇧🇸🇾🇾🇪

With respect to the differing views on Iraq and Iran, I think it just goes to show that there are many contradictions even among potentially anti-imperialist forces, and that these can be exploited by the imperialists to turn them against each other (see as well the Sino-Soviet split or other splits among the socialist states)
They love their props at UN presentations. I remember Netanyahu with his board and red marker in his demonstration on Iran's 98%capacity of it's uranium production. I believe it was 2006.
That Israeli representative is so weird looking. The things and the speeches he made is like from another parallel universe. Where are these people from? 😂😂😂
Qadri's comment regarding the fall of baghdad is illuminating but not in the way he intended. Powers centered on the iranian plateau or Mesopotamia must hold or have access to both for strategic depth. Baghdad, 1258, cannot be defended because the iranian plateau already fell. This was the error in America's plan to remove Saddam. It resulted in an Iranian friendly government that gives Iran strategic depth. Likewise, syria-palestine and egypt have a similar symbiotic relationship. Historically, both areas are required for security. That's why Britain wanted Palestine in the first place. So, egypt and israel's security is dependent on a friendly power as a neighbor. But israel's ideology is about dominance not friendship and the detente with egypt must fail eventually. The point i am trying to make is that the conflict will be solved in egypt and syria-palestine and not iraq or iran. The principle problem is that the west, US, and israel have been succesful in dividing the Arabs. I would watch Egypt. The Iranian revolution came suddenly. The same is likely to happen in Egypt.
Justin I think the 🇮🇱 person dissociated, his personality actually split and it’s like he didn’t know he was the one doing it ?? He was right when he said “ shame on you “ Coz he realized it was a shameful act but yeah , that was really strange . Explains a lot about their psychology

Very interesting discussion about Iraq, a new point of view for me. Must read more Ali Kadri! What preplexes me is that people like Sisi in Egypt or MBS in Saudi Arabia are using the same logic and rhetoric to suppress their critics. They immediately accuse them to be foreign agents or useful idiots, claiming that they're leaping fast towards prosperity and anybody who criticize them or their visions is wasting a potential growth for the country and the region. In this context, mainly Egypt, UAE and KSA leaders are in agreement that the most needed thing in the region is stability, and if embracing Isn'treal is going to provide this stability, they don't mind. This is the logic behind Abrahamic accords.
0:11 Interesting. That's the first time I've heard that about you, and I believe it's a first for other viewers too. And don't worry Justin Podur, you're fit as fuck.
The obvious temporal context of Iraq is Afghanistan which together in space create Iran. And Iran is only geopolitically relevant for Israel. So they got their 'one big wish' granted.
I think the criticism of Hamas needs to be addressed separately, as Kadi felt about Saddam, in simple terms if an occupying entity has its foot on those they occupy neck for decades an uprising of resistance will eventually happen, its human nature. This has been shown throughout history, it’s understandable to seek an means to get that foot off your neck, and you can call it terrorism but we have to look at the actions of the occupying entity also whose “terrorist” actions upon the people to keep them silent and terrified. The USA government & media don’t want to call the state of Israel terrorist but we all know their actions speak otherwise even before October 7th.
Re: Iraq. As you say, we used to have to denounce Saddam and so lend implicit blessing to an invasion. Maybe Gaza is the same, but Israel is taking the driving seat. What was Israel doing in the earlier years of the War on Terror and the Syrian ‘civil war’? Is this them getting their payback for that. As you say it’s a tripartite setup here.
Oversimplified Iran-Iraq War: The Ba'ath leadership of Iraq attacks the newly minted Islamic Republic of Iran, expecting that (1) many Iranians won't fight for the Islamic government, (2) Iraq has more and better military units. Iranians pull together to defend their country and irregular Iranian troops swarm Iraqi armor. The Ba'ath are very sorry and sue for peace. The Islamic government of Iran opts to continue the war, expecting that (1) their Shiite brothers across the border will greet them as liberators and (2) Iran has more fighters. Iraqis pulls together to defend their country and Iranian irregulars are decimated with poison gas helpfully supplied to Iraq by US and German companies and alphabet soup agencies. The Iranian government is very sorry for not having accepted the earlier truce proposal. The war rages on for years with Western countries making a killing selling arms to both sides. (They even find time to arm the Contra's in Nicaragua with some of the proceeds). Finally a truce is reached effectively confirming the status quo ante. The experience for Iraqis and Iranians is at least comparable to Europe's of WWI plus some elements of WWII. Conclusion: Noting the early Iraqi truce proposal is selective. So is Kadri's insistence that economic indicators of Iraq were strong after this insane crime against humanity.
You agree that Saddam has to go? Circ. 2002-3 How are you still doing judo at our age? I wish I could still teach and compete, but I have had too many injuries and so many surgeries I had to accept that I done a few years ago.
i started much later, have been very low intensity, never compete, and so i have been able to go longer but i have low belt ranking, very little game, and have avoided major injuries
@justinpodur I started in judo in college, 20 years ago, and most, but not all of my injuries were from over training and continuing to do judo injured without health insurance. They have a less intense "masters" division in competition for people over thirty that I think still about, but you should give it a shot when your coach says you are ready. Tournaments are so fun and a great test of yourself and who you are. I hope you give it a shot one day.
From Kadri's book, The Unmaking of Arab Socialism: "Chomsky said that Saddam ‘is as evil as they come [...]" which draws an image in the public mind that all measures are justifiable [...]" The quote is from a 2002 interview in ZMagazine "Will the US Invade Iraq?". Here is more of the context of that quote: "Saddam’s worst crimes, by far, have been domestic, including the use of chemical weapons against Kurds and a huge slaughter of Kurds in the late 1980s [...] It’s useful to ask how frequently the impassioned denunciations and eloquent expressions of outrage are accompanied by three little words: “with our help.”" The "image" i.e. the focus on the person demonized in place of a country is given by the media narrative in their push towards war that Chomsky deconstructs in the interview. Many of the leftist - not "liberal" - readers of ZMag were well aware of comrades persecuted by the Ba'ath party in Iraq; if anything, Chomsky is steering them back towards focusing on US complicity. The Ba'ath crackdown on the communist party would also complicate Kadri's notion of Baghdad having been a Soviet satellite with a stable orbit.
It's like that simpsons episode where the guy (Snake Jailbird is a recidivist criminal) burns down the house and right after looks at marge and says "look into my eyes, I SWEAR, i did not burn down the house." Sociopath and pyschopath liars.
Hewwo.... 🎉 My brother went to Kuwait with the Texas tank division and they went because Saddam invaded Kuwait... But it goes further when you add the petrodollar... That's why they went after Gaddafi and Libya also... He was transforming country into a gold back system and was trying to unite all the African nations together..soooo, killary says: "what difference did it make" famous interrogation 💬
The only reason they attacked Syria was bcz of the agreement w Russia. . They replaced Mubarak, ahmajenadad, ... 1930s standard oil created Saudi arabia. We've had our grubby little hands all over that place for centuries😢
Gaza - Israel 300 soldiers died, 38,000 civilians died, nany more not counted under the rubble, Russia 150,000 soldiers died, Ukrainian 70,000 soldiers died, Ukraine 11,000 civilians died
See Scott Ritter on Russia's decisively winning against Ukraine, which has been forced in recent months to call up men in middle age to replace tbeir dead and wounded military personnel. The US infusion of more armaments into the fascist government of the Ukraine just prolongs the period in which lives on both sides will be lost and gains the outmatched Ukrainians nothing. I think your casualty figures may be incorrect.

Circ. 2002-3
How are you still doing judo at our age?
Read Albert Pikes three world wars paper from 1871.
North to South, Iran and Iraq were always brothers.
From Kadri's book, The Unmaking of Arab Socialism:
"Chomsky said that Saddam ‘is as evil as they come [...]" which draws an image in the public mind that all measures are justifiable [...]"
The quote is from a 2002 interview in ZMagazine "Will the US Invade Iraq?". Here is more of the context of that quote:
"Saddam’s worst crimes, by far, have been domestic, including the use of chemical weapons against Kurds and a huge slaughter of Kurds in the late 1980s [...] It’s useful to ask how frequently the impassioned denunciations and eloquent expressions of outrage are accompanied by three little words: “with our help.”"
The "image" i.e. the focus on the person demonized in place of a country is given by the media narrative in their push towards war that Chomsky deconstructs in the interview.
It's like that simpsons episode where the guy (Snake Jailbird is a recidivist criminal) burns down the house and right after looks at marge and says "look into my eyes, I SWEAR, i did not burn down the house."
Sociopath and pyschopath liars.
PS... He also did that one year tour of duty in Egypt.. so I know United States helps Egypt guard the Suez canal
The only reason they attacked Syria was bcz of the agreement w Russia. . They replaced Mubarak, ahmajenadad, ... 1930s standard oil created Saudi arabia. We've had our grubby little hands all over that place for centuries😢
Wish you would show maps and or visuals of what you are talking about. For those of us who are not from your área. Thank you.
Viva resistance! ✊🏽 Free Palestine! 🇵🇸
By chance have you viewed the documentary JFK to 911 Everything is a Rich Man’s Trick by Francis Richard Connolly (2014)
will check it
