That's fab! That's really all I could hope for from this video. It's a lovely medium and it's great to know that people are more encouraged to try it :)
Well, if I discover that I can actually paint then I might have to try this out. It seems like it combines a lot of the good points of acrylics and watercolors.
For almost 6 years we're learning how to paint with gouache at school in simple art lessons we took and I couldn't really paint gouache, I didn't even understand what it is. Now with only 10 minutes video I gained much more information about gouache than 6 years of classes, thank you so much Minnie! ♥ :)
another great thing you can do with gouache is load some empty paint markers or fineliners with it.. for those little white detailed hilights and various line work...
I just got my first ever set of gouache today and I'm quite scared of trying out a new medium but watching your vid has made me less scared and more confident in trying out something new. This really helped me a lot! Still a super newbie at painting that's why I'm intimidated by it, but after hearing your tips techniques, I feel more at ease in trying it out. Thank you so much! Your work is beautiful 💕
Craft stores often put a big markup on their products though. If you buy it online, especially if you can find it on sale and from a local seller so you don't have to pay shipping, then you'll probably pay about the same for Windsor and Newton as you'd pay for Reeves from the craft store. Or at least the craft stores where I live are like this.
Michaels often has their own brand, Artists Loft, on sale. I bought my gouache set of 12 colors for $5., or you can get the Reeves for $10 per set of 12, and use your 40% coupon. I find no difference between the two.
Can you please do a tutorial on blocking in colors for portrait? I'm just getting back into painting after a 8yr hiatus, decided to try my hand at gouache
i had no idea this type of paint existed before i found your channel, i'm more of a watercolor person but i also love acrylic and this seems like a mix of both. this video was super helpful!
Great tutorial for this beginner! I was especially happy to see you just painted without a sketch. I’m not good at realistic drawing so often felt discouraged to try gouache, but love your style and will give it a try. Thank you!
Having never used gouache and have been wondering a lot about it, I'm now saving to buy my first lot so I can create something colourful. Being disabled from 11yrs of battling with cancer then radiation poisoning from my treatment I've been left in a wheelchair with a number of health problems which means I'm unable to work so funding my art is something I find difficult. However I'm definitely going to try this to hopefully make some beautiful work to be able to sell. Thx for the tips in this video it's really helped me out and I hope when my art studio in my garden has been built I'll be able to make video's of me creating so companies might send me out products to try which would be s huge help for sure! Keep up your great work! 😊
I´ve just got some Reeves Gouache so I could test them. Didn´t do a piece yet with them, but I love the feeling so much, that I can´t wait to use them. This video was realy usefull, so thank you!
I love your artwork so much, it's inspired me to start painting again thanks to all these tips and tricks it makes it so much easier! Please post more X
I bought some gouache yesterday. I have never really done any illustration myself before. Only at school and maybe every two years I try to draw Disney characters. But I always wanted to be able to express my dreams and ideas in drawings. So I searched for a gouache tutorial and I repainted this bear following your instructions. It turned out pretty well (my brushes are shit though, need some good ones haha) and I will put the bear up on my wall to see as my first painting in a long journey towards illustrating.
So glad I found your channel. I’ve been struggling with Gouache, blending has been a nightmare and I think I know why now since you explained not to blend/wash with water but to do paint on paint. I’ve also tried adding more white and that was not ideal
I personally use Royal Talens religiously. I was gifted 15 year old tubes of it, that a family member didn't want anymore a few years ago, and they were still amazing. Since then I've gotten almost every single tube they offer, and I can't recommend them enough!
thank you for this!! Perfect beginner vid for me to learn tips and techniques. I also love the bear painting towards the end he/she is quite adorable!!
So handy! Thank you so much! Think I’m going to try out gouache for the first time on my channel! - your voice is so satisfying to listen too 😂 I could listen to you all night hehehehe
Your voice is very pleasant! I hope it doesn't sound weird. XD And thank God, finally someone told me why my watercolour paper's textured when I want it to be smooth. 😅
i have been watching your videos for the past two days and i just have to say thank you for inspiring me and so many others to practice and make art. i always had a problem of wanting to make art but not knowing what, but you are so helpful! i'm defintely heading to an art store today.
Thanks for making this wonderful & informational video. I am just getting started with gouache for the first time but coming from a watercolor background. I appreciate you breaking down the various techniques and steps for using this medium.
I decided I want to try painting for the first time so I went on amazon and bought the Reeves paints, watercolor paint book, and brushes you recommended in the description! The paints are coming tomorrow and I can't wait to practice this medium of art! You really inspire me and I appreciate all of your videos, from filling sketchbooks to listing supplies you used to giving your advice and sharing your inspirations and methods! You are an incredibly wonderful person! Thank you so much!
I am heading to the art store and really wanted to try gouache or just tubed watercolor in general. But I didn't know where to start or what to get. And I've watched so many of your videos but I hadn't seen this info video? But I refreshed your home page and there it was! I feel so blessed aha
Yep. It just reffers to if the paper has some little bumpy textures or if its smooth Just think hot press = ironed fabric, smooth. I mean its not ironed but that helped me remember which paper to get
Very helpful. I've been wondering about adding a set of gouache to my kit. I've been using watercolour and only have used white gouache. I'll check out your videos on Strathmore too. Thanks.
Another excellent video. Now I know so much more about gouache and blending!! I'm addicted to your videos. I just want to go home and create and make a mess! :)
I love Gouache, it's so versatile and vibrant. You can water it down to resemble the translucency of watercolour, or thicken up to bring it to an Acrylic opacity. It goes really far. Even though I spend more when buying my Gouache, I know the tube is packed with pigment and so, needs only a little to bring out the beauty in the paint. I actually enjoy using Gouache more than watercolour. Activating it to repair or to lift it a little is great. However, once completed, fix it and frame it. Or any damp or spillage on to your painting can be truely disastrous as the paint activates so quickly and spoils your painting.
Thank you very much! I've been looking for a small tip and trick video, and yours helped me. I just got goache not to long ago and had some questions. Thanks again!
Thank you for the tutorial! I have used gouache only a minimal amount of times and its been an odd feeling versus my home medium watercolor. I'm taking a gander at gouache for an upcoming project in school to experiment!
I'm glad I found your channel. I watched the other video of yours talking about your art journey and how you started out. I've always been using colored pencils but a lot of times I feel like it takes a longggg time to finish a piece on a weekend, in addition to working full time :( I tried watercolor but didn't work out well, then beat myself up for spending a bit money on a few supplies. (At least I gave it away to my sister so she can put good use to it). So now I've read a lot about gouache and am like well, is it worth it 🤦😞 I guess you never know until you try
Arteza’s Gouache is really nice and it’s affordable! Just bought the 24 set, planning to order he 48 set! ARTEZA is the way to go! Have then send u a set so up can review them for ur audience!
Loved this video! The quality of your videos has improved so much over the past few months and I hope we'll get to see more and more artwork from you as soon as possible :)
just gone back to this vid as i ordered my first set of gouache paints today! so excited to try them out. thank you for the tips minnie i love your art x
can you please review the miya himi gouache set? i’m planning to buy it as my first gouache set as people have been saying it’s good for beginners but watching your video made me reconsider :>
This video covers nearly everything, I love the way you explained it! I just got a gouache set today, with 12 tubes. It's from the brand pebeo. It's the next priciest one in my favorite craft store, the priciest one is reeves. I was looking for winston & newton but I don't think they sell it in my country.
i'm really thankful that you uploaded this video. I just bought a set of primary colours of gouache, and im a little bit lost.. but as i paint with watercolour i have all the materials!
Okay, crazy. Earlier today, I was wondering where you are since I haven't seen vids of yours lately. Then I forgot the thought. Just now, I wanted to look up people painting with gouache and clicked on the first one that looked good.....and its you! Yeah, doesn't take much. lol
Great video. I learned a great deal in less than ten minutes. Special thanks to Google for simply handing your video to me after I typed 'gouache'. Your bear is awesome.
I actually wanted to buy acrylic paint since I spent all my colors, but I accidentally bought gouache. Now I gotta learn how to paint with gouache. The video is great. Thanks♡
This is unrelated to the video (which I loved and was very helpful, by the way!) but your fingers are so long and elegant! As a dancer I notice these things 😂
This was a great introductory video..I've been thinking about using gouache but I didn't know anything about it...now I'm definitely going to try it..thanks 😊
Minnie Small so i recently bought Acryla gouache, should i learn more techniques or just start painting from references? I want to learn nature background and buildings.

oh I wish I was good at art lol
this video was so tasty to watch
Anyone can get good at art with practice!! Time and effort goes a million miles further than talent :) Love your videos Dodie!!
Omg dodie
hi dodie!! Practice, sweat, tears and blood is all it takes! I'm sure if you draw consistently you will get so good at drawing :)

And to get everything is to have money ;--;
Ghost Shrimpe Use your handsssss-//SLAPPED
Your voice is everything. To American ears it sounds like a cool icy glass of organic lemonade on a balmy summer evening.
What a charming description!
how poetic ...
Is it cool, or icy? Were the lemons organic? What about the water? Raw sugar? Balmy... So like 85°?

I really love it because it’s like a mix of all the mediums combined, oils, acrylics, wc
I'm definitely more open minded on using gouache and less scared to try it. Thanks for this! :D
That's fab! That's really all I could hope for from this video. It's a lovely medium and it's great to know that people are more encouraged to try it :)
Me too .
Witch I’m scared cuz I have enough money for the gouache not the sketchbook lmao
Well, if I discover that I can actually paint then I might have to try this out. It seems like it combines a lot of the good points of acrylics and watercolors.
Did you get to paint ?
In my humble opinion, anyone can paint and draw with enough practice, It all comes down to priorities in life.
69th like! I’m the 69 like fairy
This answered a lot of my questions about how to get the right ratio of water to pigment.
Brilliant, I hope it really helped!

"the cheaper ones like Reeve's" CHEAPER. Omg, I'm so poor.
reeves is the most expensive brand in the craft stores I go to hahaha
mine too

It's not about the paint, it refers to the paper. Cold pressed paper usually is more textured than hot pressed.
Yep. It just reffers to if the paper has some little bumpy textures or if its smooth
Just think hot press = ironed fabric, smooth.
