- Today's video is a first time dive into the incredible voice of Regine Velasquez. I'm honestly mad I didn't listen to this incredible singer before now because we are in for a tone, dynamics, agility and range-laden treat with Regine singing "Araw-Gabi". Join me in analysing this masterful voice... once I can find words of course. My ears are blessed and my vocal nerd heart is full.

This is a chill song compared to her usual repertoire. She’s been the gold standard for power belters/ balladeers in Asia. What a queen
Regine is a music Bible herself. She is purely legend despite of her current voice due to ageing.
Her voice is still amazing… I don’t know what you’re talking about in spite of aging… She had acid reflux issues which affected her voice for about 10 years, but she still sounded great during that time. And I’ve heard that she’s over the acid reflux, and from recent performances I’ve seen she sounds crystal clear and better than ever.

Needless to say, one of the all time greats. Her cover of "What Kind of Fool Am I" is the best I've ever heard. She and Lea are the inspiration for this generation of Filipina stars.

Lea Salonga as well respected too, but she’s not really as big of a star in the Philippines as these three. She has been much of her career in musical theatre in the United States.
As her former bassist, I can tell you that as moot and academic her vocal reputation is, her humility and empathy towards her fellow human beings is unparalleled.

I believe Regine Velasquez has been blessing so many ears for more than 30 years already. The new generation of Filipino belters are looking up to her as their biggest influence and inspiration.
About the song, Regine has been singing it for many years before that Wish bus performance.
She is Katrina Velarde’s idol as you can imagine. Katrina just released TODAY a cover of this…omg…Regine will be proud. Even if you don’t react to it on the channel, you should take a listen. Her advice to Kat: don’t shy away from becoming famous.

Also the first female Filipino/Asian to stage a solo concert in Carnegie Hall, NY.
Commercially, Regine is the most influential vocalist and the best selling artist of all time in our country 👍🏼👍🏼 the only Filipino artist to sell at least a million album abroad. 50+yrs and still the most active artist/concert performer in PH! The QUEEN of OPM (original pilipino music).

Regine is one of Morissette's (remember mori?) musical influences. Morissette's family discovered her talent in singing when she was 3 years old, when she was left alone in a karaoke machine singing a Regine Velasquez song " you are my song " 💛 ✌ 💛 btw loved the entire reactions 💛
A lot of Filipino artists looked up to Regine because she is an icon. She has been in the industry for 36 years. One of the interesting collabs she had recently was with the PPOP group SB19. I could not think how it could be and would become but the collab turned out so well. Regine is truly a versatile singer.
Wishbus performances are always just a step up. Thank you for exposing me to this (to me) new artist.
I love that someone who knows nothing about music can simply listen to this beautiful performance and enjoy it. And then people who have some (or a lot) of musical knowledge really have their minds blown by Regine’s technique. Love it.
Regine's song was the first song learned by Morissette Amon at the age of 3 when she was left by her parents in front of a player on KARAOKE in their home. upon returning back to her parents they were shocked in discovering Morissette has a very high potential in singing.
From there onwards her father (a rock band member) guided her singing carrier.
Regine is "Asia's Song Bird" and one of the idols of the Asia's Phoenix (Morissette).
Also, on UA-cam look up "Regine surprises Katrina" for an example of the high regard the current Filipina singers have for her. (They played a trick on Katrina Velarde - The top video shown has Eng. subs for the end part).

The distortion we hear in hear voice is caused by acid reflux. She has been suffering from it since 2013. She needed to change or forget some techniques she was accustomed of doing in her younger years. We only hear the old techniques in some choices of songs. You should definitely react or make an analysis of the songs at her prime or even now at her 50's. Here are links of some of her songs:

I think this was around the years when she was still struggling a lot with her acid reflux. I think from 2013-2018 was the period where it's really a battle between her and her acid reflux. I think that might be why there's some distortion as you said coming out of the higher belts. Because Regine pre-acid reflux was like a beast on steroids lol at the time she was truly unmatched. From 2019-present though it appears she has been able to manage her acid reflux way better and work around it so that it doesn't hinder her performances anymore.

I love Regine. I’ve admired her from the first… when I first heard her sing just as she was starting to become known, and which was reinforced when she won that Asian singing competition in the late 80s(?). However, this Wish bus perf of Araw Gabi of hers is not my favorite-she looks like she’s too nonchalant or uncaring here. Here, she didn’t hit the notes perfectly a number of times, and-fairly or unfairly-I’ve come to expect perfection from her. Still, I am so happy you enjoyed it!
