Will Eisner: The Spirit of Comics

An Introduction to Will Eisner (1917-2005), hosted by Danny Fingeroth, Chair of Will Eisner Week. Will Eisner's life and legacy, from growing up in Bronx during the Great Depression, supporting his immigrant family by drawing comics, founding Eisner-Iger Studios one of the early comics packagers, creating The Spirit Sunday newspaper insert, developing comics at American Visuals for training and education, and writing A CONTRACT WITH GOD, one of the first graphic novels. He lived long enough to finally see comics on library shelves and museum walls. The Eisner Awards, the "Oscars" of the Comics Industry are presented annually in his name at San Diego Comic-Con.
