I sense that it had a double meaning in that it pertains to the love of art as being similar to loving another, because they both present their own challenges and rewards through struggling together, the challenges that comes with every artist's/lover's ambition to create, the mistakes, the successes, the self doubt and the hopefulness. When he gets frustrated in the beginning I felt that. You gotta brush it off or at least do what you can to fix it, just don't dwell on the mistakes made in life and art.
