Ru getting pissed at the girls on S7 for their terrible performance in the Shakesqueer acting challenge was 100% warranted. The H&M rant though... that one still grinds my gears. They had just come back from lockdown, most queens had not worked in months, Joe even said that they'd had to sell most of the garments they were gonna wear on the show just to pay the bills. And then Ru has the NERVE to sit there on her multimillion-dollar ass reading Joe for wearing an H&M dress when it wasn't even a runway look. Ugghhhh I still get pissed off just thinking about it.
Why? Ru clearly stated that if you have to buy an H&M dress, to make sure and glamorize it. Jimbo did not. He just wore it off the rack doing nothing to it.

Tons of queens have worn shitty performance looks and NEVER got read. All the sudden Joe Black’s look became the literal reason she ended up in the bottom, cause the judges enjoyed her verse AND runway look. @@vodriscoll

In their attempts to like, be on the same level as ru and michelle (for th lack of a better example? ) they just came off as so rude and unreasonable in most of their critics, we barely knew them AS judges and our first impressions weren't good which was a rly rough start 😭 jbc did not deserve all the hate and racism he went through however

Theres tea that Raven Symone gave Adore even harsher and meaner critiques than michelle but they cut it out to not tarnish ravens image

The judges didn't know their fashion history, but respectfully, neither did Jimbo. That wasn't a Marie Antoinette/French Revolution style dress or hairstyle. That being said, it WAS a paper armor fantasy dress, which means there shouldn't have been any rules. The makeup wasn't drag-pretty. The judges could have left it at that. Fortunately Jimbo's skills improved afterwards.

honestly is kinda annoying Michelle didnt give them THAT critique in as2 instead of s5. It was pure friendship wheel which is mostly why people preferred katya to win so much, that alliance was wrong and even Roxxie was ready to walk out

Even Ru said it, if you want to buy a garment in h&m do so but embelish it put something more into it. go through the entire critique and joe black making a joke out of it didnt help.

The Acid Betty shade and the boy drag reads were so out of place. Stop sending these girls into panic attacks!
In the context of ganging up on Jynkx (which was what they were trying to get us to believe), it makes sense.
They were so not out of place? I dont even think the Acid betty one was a read and alaska literally did boy drag, which a lot of people are just not a fan of. Get over it.

@@santiagogear4912 the edited and polished nature of drag race is ruining y’all’s ability to perceive art. It doesn’t need to be beautiful, it was a comedic look for a comedic challenge. In season two they literally had three girls shoved into a baby bassinet showing just their faces.

The problem with the CDR1 judging was that the judges were being intentionally cruel for the sake of being cruel. They weren't trying to give helpful critiques, they weren't funny or entertaining, they were just being jerks as if the queens were beneath them. That's not enjoyable to watch.
Stacey Mackenzie was an amazing judge.
I WAS SO IRRITATED BY RU in season 12 because when there was a lockdown right in the reunited episode and the finale. Ru was not painted, no wig, no amazing glamour Zaldy dresses she wears and not even her Klein Epstein Parker suits. Instead she was wearing a tracksuit and a face mask. And when I saw the reunion I was like “hmm idrc if it’s the reunion” bc there was a sleepover theme so I thought she just didn’t paint for that reason. Then when I saw the finale I saw her in the same thing and I was pissed and it brought me back to the “H&M critique” (I rewatched season 12 after the H&M critique happened) and the “BE PREPARED critique”. And I was like “really ur not even going to at least paint and put a wig on for the finale?” it was so hypocritical. How dare you critique girls like that if ur not gonna be prepared as well? Til this day I still think about ru’s “outfit” in the finale.

Also, Jimbo knew his reference with Marie Antoinette makeup. The aristocratic women of the era painted only their faces pale, never their hands. It was not about "the illusion" but historical accuracy, even if the dress was just a fun paper dress.

The season 7 acting challenge was so crazy. Especially because a lot of the queens have said it was even worse than what we saw

it was a performance outfit, you would stare at it for the duration of the performance and it adds so much to what you are trying to present
The tone may have been harsh but they have a point, Ru said if it's H&M you better customize it with whatever you have to make it look special.

Heidi in Closet had a severe allergic reaction. She was in the hospital all night. After Heidi told the judges Nicki (sp?) Minaj walked back her comments. She was concerned about Heidi & very kind.
Ru's temper tantrum over H&M is hysterically funny. Quite a few US RPDR queens have admitted to getting outfits or parts of their outfits from Amazon. Bob the Drag Queen's robot catsuit for the roller skating challenge on Season 8 with was from Amazon. She won. She still jokes about it.

The judges of Canada's Drag Race S1 really ruined a otherwise fantastic season with amazing and memorable queens in it. I was not shocked by any means that other than Brooklyn (who was the best judge by far), the other two did not come back.
Edit: And Michelle was totally in the right about disliking Rolaskatox, they were a mean girl clique that bullied the other contestants especially Jinxk. And guess what? None of them won that season.
I mean... Stacy was supposed to come back, but since she was sick during the start of production on CDR 2 they decided to replace her, and not bring her back for CDR 3.

I will always go to bat for Michelle Visage. She knows both how to give a strong critique while still playing the "stern judge" character to balance out the panel. Yes, sometimes there are missteps (though I attribute those more to who producers want in the bottom), but I think Whatcha' Packin and moments outside of the general formatting really show her qualities well

Michelle is genuinely very sweet to all the queens, she remembers all their names unlike Ru, goes on tours with them, and always treats them with respect. A lot of queens off the show have said Michelle is amazing to them.
I've seen several queens say she is the only one who gives them critiques they can actually work on during the show.

It was Raven Symone and they used a read that Michelle who basically adopted Adore as a drag mother after season 6 probably gives her everytime she doesn't use a corset. Michelle is the mother of all the girls (except for Violet, who always hated her and it was kinda justify).

I get you need to be harsh sometimes, but i think sometimes the judges feel like they’re above the contestants and can make em feel however they want. Say anything and if the queens spiral it’s not their issue anyway. You can be blunt and harsh without being over the top mean. If you see a girls hand start to shake maybe don’t tell them there’s nothing good about the outfit they’ve put together. Gives vibes of a parent who says “I clothe and feed you, you should be thankful!”
Right? Harsh criticism is only warranted when they gave advice prior to judging. But they barely give constructive feedback.

Regarding Canada's Drag Race's judges, I am glad Jeffrey never came back (even though he claims he was told by the producers to act like a douche). And while I didn't have any issues with Stacey's judging, I couldn't stand her wheezing, asthmatic voice so I don't miss her. Brad gives us Carson's 'fashion gay' energy while Traci channels the *hilarious* Ross Matthews. Amanda was utterly forgettable.

The Adore Critique always breaks my heart because of how hard Michelle was saying all of those thigs to her and just seeing Adores reaction and all broke me

I don't think that Nicki's critique should be in this video, honestly. She wasn't being malicious, she was giving constructive criticism. May have hurt Heidi's feelings a little bit, but she took Nicki's criticism and learned to do better. Nicki wasn't really saying that Heidi's makeup and hair were ugly, she was saying that Heidi could do better than that because she knew that she could. To me, it looked like Nicki was just encouraging her. 💗

The thing about the CDR thing is; I don't think any lies were told. Especially concerning Jimbo. The only reason people made it into a big deal is bc Jimbo is a fan favourite.
