- Hybrid battery cooling fan is located upstream of the battery, collecting particulates over time. Because it is not a service item (i.e. never checked) the fan eventually clogs. This causes battery overheating and premature failure. #prius#toyota #car
Thank you so much for doing this video. My prius was revving high especially on hot days and lacked power. I thought my battery was failing, yet no error codes. My fan was clogged up. I cleaned it as shown in the video. I connected it to a 12v battery to test first. Was running slowly due to build up. After cleaning, it ran much better. Now my prius 2 has more power and battery charges very quickly. Fuel cons. From 6.3l/100 to 5.1l/100 immediately. Mileage is 252,000kl. Much appreciated.
Thank you! My vehicle was averaging at 41-42 mpg now I am getting 52-56 after cleaning
Wow!
Thank you for the video! I've seen other videos but yours makes it more simple to understand and do!
Thanks for the video. I was able to go out and remove the fan very easy. It would have taken a lot longer without your video. Awesome and thanks again.
Blaine, this is the ‘cooling’ fan I need to make sure is clean
Don't forget the all the duct work the leads to the battery. A filter at the inlet that isn't to densely compact to allow free flow of air can save a lot of hassle. I think later models have it but before that people made their own.
Hybrid Assistant free phone app will show battery temp and even turn on the fan.
Test I believe all 5 fans speeds through software.
I had a lot of dog hair and dust that reached the actual battery compartment that also can prevent cooling.
I notice watching many videos you learn more. This one showed the easiest access to the fan.
Air compressor, toothbrush and q tips for cleaning fan thoroughly. Don't let fan spin up when using compressed air which can wear or damage bearings. You can hold down on fan blades to prevent too much spin up.
if I had the fan out, I would make sure to clean those plastic ducts that the air flows through! wouldn't make sense to leave any dust in there, since you have it open anyway! any dirt left in there is just going to get sucked into the fan right away.
Thanks for taking the time to make this video mate.
Thank you so much. Who else watching this on 2021...
Great job, best instruction. Thank you so much
Thanks for your good vídeo
Excelent explanation!!! Thanks!!!
Thanks for the video. You make it look so simple, I wish you were near me. :-)
Where'd you go.. more content please
Good Morning. My 2009 Toyota Prius is revving really high when I press the accelerator. About six months ago I had the hybrid battery replace, shortly there after the vent (fan) in the back seat that leads to the hybrid battery started to run loud every hour and stay on for 10-15 minutes each time. Now when gets hot ( Arizona ) the fan turns on every 10-15 minutes and runs for 10-15 minutes each time. I have taking it to 3 different mechanics and each one has said that they don't see that there is a problem, even the mechanic that replaced the hybrid battery. The last mechanic that I took it to showed me that the tubing was not securely fitted and bolted down and was just moving around back there so he did fix that, he also placed a tissue over the vent to show me that it was sucking air in and not blowing air out (LOUD). However, I am still having this fan issue and now the revving when I press on the accelerator is worst then it was before. I don't think anyone has checked the fan to see if it needs to be cleaned.
Nice presentation, quite hard to access for novice.
Thank you very much!!
TOYOTA should do free service of this cooling fan cleaning every each 5 years all of the world. MUST !!!! I think so
This went so quick.. hard to keep up and this generation is harder to get the fan out than the 3rd generations. This is up in the wall, the laters are down below and less to work around. :( How do we make sure everything is back connected to the right ducks and such?
Thank you man 👍👍👍👍
my 151k '05 Prius fan use to run strong that I could hear it. now I thought it was not running but it actually is running but very slow I hear it when I put my ear to the vent. do you think it needs cleaning??? thanks for the great instructions!
great video
Great video thx man
Prius turbo
4:04 is that the technical term? lol
lemme write that one down........look for 'fucking shit' in fan, got it
"Were done cleaning this shit" Pause, look at fan blades, they're jsut as filthy as when they took it out.
HaHa I thought the same thing. That orange clip was glossed over pretty good as well. Just slap it back in. lol
Does anyone know what temperature the hybrid batteries are supposed to be at? Recently got the dr prius app but no mention of temp range for hybrid battery
hi intereting, i know nothing of these , ive been looking at electric cars but they are to expensive so thought of one of these :) on a full battery if you drive carefully how long does the car run on battery , once engine starts how long will it run? also do you have lots of maintainance it being a petrol engine? any pointers would be appreciated, do you think its better to go totally electric?
How often do you recommend to clean?
I think the manual says check every 5k and replace every 20k(but you got that kind of money, so just clean it)
did that fix the error code? Did you do this after getting a Red Triangle warning light?
Margarita Hernandez it will fix red triangle if u r getting this code
How to reset cooling performance of the hybrid battery. Can you please tell me
2:38 where is the third screw?
how do we knw the time to replace the 12v battery. my prius 2013 is giving 12.5v output while turned off...
Dr zaib I'd tell you if it runs below 12v or if it fluctuates heavily, THEN it's time to change the 12v battery. Being charged to 12.5 just shows the alternator is doing its job in keeping it charged up.
Shane Brown but my car has given an error code of POA80 l thrice... at lower speeds between 30 to 40km when the HV battery has low charge the engine kicks in a little late ( not all the time )
HOW did you clean it? Air or water? That part was not shown.
Julie Coble clean with air because water damage electrical fan
Bro thanks for saving me 400 dollars
Prior to the cleaning my car was fine. Now all my dash lights are on and car won’t even go into drive?? I checked all my connections and they are fine??
The safety plug needs to be pushed back in and down to lock it.
Hi,
I just did all you say in the video and then, i started my prius and a message "problem" appeared on the screen and now she won't start anymore.
I have a red triangle and the engine light on the dashboard.
I tried to check all steps to be sure i didn't forgot any plug or any bolts but i can't find the problem, can you help me ?...
christophe Manque put the orange clip back in that you took off the hybrid battery
We did all that you said, but the orange clip in and are still having the same red triangle. Any advice?
Fast forward to 4:25
Does it work for 2014 Prius as well?
No
The title is cooling fan cleaning but all I saw was “ WE CLEANED THIS SH**T and now we putting it back” . How did you clean ? What did you use to clean ? Anything ? Jokers
Air hose or hand held vaccum
You titled the video “fan cleaning” but never even showed how to clean the fan. Really?!?
Air hose, or hand held vaccum,
is the fan controlled by a thermostat, or does it run all the time when the power is on? it would be nice to temporarily power up the battery and see it spin when its opened to make sure it works well. Can you hear the fan when its all closed up? Ive never ridden in the back seat of my car.
romansten9 yes it comes on once you get the ready light
😂
Video is missing a lot of info I clean these every day. You did poor job here coed will not clear with just cleaning and will be back soon. Take it to dealer do it right.
