- Vusi is a consummate speaking professional! On and off stage. He doesn’t just talk business - he lives it. For real, he walks, talks and breathes it! You see he does more than simply inspire revolution, he’s the guy that initiates it.
He has been the catalyst for change in businesses across the globe through expertise in strategy, leadership and sales.
A staggering 21 global cities have experienced Vusi. Oh and add New York, London, Paris, Lagos, Jersey, Guernsey, Rio de Janeiro, Dar es Salaam, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, Colombo, Nairobi, Kampala, San Francisco to the list.
That’s what you get when you talk about things that make perfect sense.
So let’s begin… Vusi is a disruptor.
At 25 he ran a R400mn division in a R17bn multi-national and today is widely regarded as one of the most disruptive forces in venture capital in Africa. He was amongst the youngest directors of a listed company in South Africa and now serves on several boards.
Currently, he is the CEO of a boutique investment & advisory firm in Africa. Leading by example, his firm forces medium, large and listed businesses into much needed, often painful, always lucrative new directions.
Having graced the covers of Entrepreneur Magazine, with features on Forbes and Inc500, his social media engagement often mirrors that of a Rockstar.
Just watched this today in a moment where I feel overwhelmed by my current position at work and the project I am working on. I am glad I watched this, it gave me the motivation to try harder because the project was given to me to challenge me and help me grow. The stress I have right now is fear and I will over come it
"leadership is not about education and how much education you have"
Thank you🙏
I’d like to quote Simon Sinek and say “The one characteristic that makes a great leader is courage.”
Truly one of the individuals I want to just sit across the table enjoying a glass of red wine and chat.... brilliant mind
Ashley. Little 🔥🔥
This man has to be the greatest motivational speaker I know
He's the number one in the continent.
Wow!. You just bring calmness and clarity to every topic you speak on. Thank you Vusi, I'm from Nigeria.
Very often we confuse people at the top to be leaders but most times it's not the case. Thank you Sir for this bralliant talk. I look up to you in so many ways. I mentor myself by listening to you. Thank you.
Thanks for the talk Vusi. Leadership consists of the following qualities:
Forward-thinking
Clear guidance + communication
Confidence
The spirit to balance emotional intelligence with logic
Truly in this time i have found it difficult to identify a leader that stands out for me in industries.
Every word you said was exactly what I wanted to hear. Because people think leadership is some skill you can just apply, it takes passion dedication, grit- enduring pain for a long time, which not anyone has.
Thank you for activating our sleeping part, in our brain.
Blessed weekend

I'm so educated by this man's speech.. Words of wisdom
When you said, and I paraphrase, you only become a leader when the opportunity to lead is presented to you. Mmmmm leadership and opportunity. Love it, thanks Vusi and thanks. Always puts a smile on my face when you say Bazalwane!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
Youre just spot on Vusi. Once again you nailed it. From an Entrepreneur in Nigeria
Africa, South Africa need you the most, especially now. As a Minister of Finance, Minister of Public Enterprise or President. You are a great leader, I hope you will accept 🙏🏿.
Vusi, thank you for the knowledge you impart. I appreciate it so much. You are a phenomenal role model and I look forward to your videos! I hope you have a speech or event in DC this year so I can attend. God bless!
Hi. For me I can say leadership has been my strongest suit since childhood. It's really easy at making tough decisions and sorting out complex issues. If there is anything that irritates me is incompetent leadership, and stagnancy - those two came provoke me to take charge. I generally don't wait, I just lead. Leadership just finds me. Most times, Im just thrown into it.
Good valid points
I also believe a leader doesn’t care about the title, but more to serve his purpose.
The leader without a title serve and empower his employees and his clients
Blessings
This is amazing.
I've listened to this many times but today it hits differently because it was a defining moment for me.
It's special this message and so accurate.
You got me Vusi...it is true...it is a pity though that most leaders understands leading as controlling, bossing, and patronising other people instead of leading in times of uncertainty by giving clear direction and trajectory and stand by it.
Vusi I admire you about how you stress about leadership. With your brains this country can come right . Note the government of the day haven't got what you got . It's very, very sad.
Thanks VT, always inspirational. Leadership is something that is talked about by many people but you explain it and live it.
Brilliant mind. Proud of you my brother. Greetings from West Papua, Indonesia.
in my Mind a Great leader is the one Who stay Tun when even ist Rain or Sturm and take care of his/ her Team. and the Most Greatest leader is who show thAT FOR THE NEXT Gerneration
HOW IT WOrks.
the great leader in South Africa is you Vusi.
Bra Vusi I honestly agree with your take on leadership. The answer has been staring at me the whole time , parents ,most especially mothers are true leaders . I love them even more now knowing this .thank you Bra Vusi
Profound words Mr Vusi thnk you Knowing how navigate in every situation thats what it takes to be a leader
Thank you for this Vusi. This has been very informative. I think what makes for a great leader is, someone with integrity.
My valid opinion if a great leader is Gayton McKenzie.
I like the way you put it. Its exactly what you said and more. How complex and resilient you have to be. I want to be there
Vusi of africa.long life and prosperity
Your such an inspiration Mr Thembekwayo. Terrific material.
Yes Sir. This eventually makes so much sense. Thank you.
I love your touch on leadership and truly speaking as you have stated leadership grows one and brings them to different levels of leadership. It ain't for the faint hearted at all. Most people love the title but when the responsibility part comes in it becomes almost impossible for them to match up 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 thanks Visit for this.
Adding to this topic, I admire leader that are able to keep the momentum going on the day to day operations, meaning, other moment you put your leadership in practice is when you’re absent
Often the difficulties and challenges I face today are to build me up and prepare me for where I am going. - VT
That one hit home. Thanks!
Thanks VT. The world needs more people like you, and am stepping up too.
You have made look at leadership in a totally new perspective. Thank you
i agree 100%, I have absolutely been in really difficult situations where i was called to lead and i had to make really tough calls and in those moments, you truly get to understand what it means to be a leader because you need to do exactly that, lead: verb. There are many great leaders in our uncles who make tough calls at family meetings etc.
I love you Guy!!!! such wisdom hhay speechless!!!!
I love his mentality, nd level his thinking it's so contagious..
• 'Leadership is not about qualification'
• 'Leadership is not about Tenure'
• ' It's easy to be a leader when every thing is smooth and on auto pilot'
But in times of uncertainty and turbulence, that's where true leadership reveals it's self.
'Every body wants High Rank' but don't want the responsibilities that come with it'
Leadership is about being groomed into the role of a leader.
I think in my opinion a lot of Organisations misinterpret/ confuse a Leader, Manager and Specialist role.
Thabang Mamashila yes 🔥🙏
Powerful talk keep on the great work ... always making us think and opening our minds ..
Had the opportunity to train some FLMs in the mining industry and they were very vocal about how they would never be able to change attitudes, circumstances, the environment, etc. in their respective departments, and your video just hit home. I just had to share this clip with them.
Straight to the point. Thanks Vusi. # leadership.
Absolutely spot on.
Thanks a lot Vusi for this talk on leadership🙌🏼, So how can one better prepare themselves as a leader for the day when the “PoPo hits the Fan” ?
Vusi, you are the best Africa Entrepreneur I know. Thank you for sharing your gift with the world. "𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐭'𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝"!!
I think leadership is the ability to harness people towards a certain end result. Simply put it you can get people where they need to go you are a leader
Wow, beautiful! I love this! ❤
Great and you have really broken it down you are a leader when its a moment to lead but until then you are a manager. ....great. thanks
This guy is really practical and relates real life situations to make the picture clear.
Biggest take away "iskaftin", is leadership is about stepping up when things go south, when you have to own up for how things look. Own it, all of it, the good, but most importantly the bad and the ugly.
You are absolutely amazing!
Makes perfect sense, particularly the elastic example. You're a manager, pastor etc until pressure is applied, wow. Which makes me wonder VT, some pastors tend to avoid certain question we pose and the challenge we bring when questioning certain things within the church which we see as not correct. And instead of a response they make a sermon about you and tell you how rebellious you are. At some point Paul The Apostle rebuked Peter - the one who walked and talked with Jesus, got me thinking hard there.
kindly let me know some challenges you've been facing in the bible or real-life concerning kingdom solutions to your needs. I will be ready to assist you. thank you
I think u are very right many are managers while few are leaders...
Vusi is the man!
Thanks Vusi
I'm consistent with you Vusi👍👍
Now I have pictured what does mean to be leader.
thanks bro.
Ntate Sizwe Nxasane is a great leader that I know here in South Africa.
Former president Thabo Mbeki by a mile. Great videos Vusi.
Mind opener!!!
This is so deep I have to listen to it again. I can't help but laugh...🤯
Learn something new every time i listen to you. Great work
I think the video is terrific and the conversation is very valuable.
However, as engineering student, I mus say that example using the elastic band made me laugh.
I'm just there screaming, "No Vusi, it's the Modulus of Elasticity"😅😅
Thanks Vusi.
Great video Vusi, always enjoy listening to you speak. I fully agree. Stressful moments are essential to develop leadership as it requires us to think on our toes. Someone in South Africa who I consider such a leader would be my uncle, Rydal Jeftha. Started working at the wine farm as a general worker and has worked his way up to managing director of Koopmanskloof Wines.
Excellent 👌
I love what you said that you grow into leadership.
Thank you very much for the information I really needed it....
This is powerful.
That is why leadership is not about the position or the authority. everyone can be a leader a janitor, a cook and a cleaner. i like the philosophy of Robin Sharma "leading without the title".
How did you become such an amazing speaker like you are now i want to know because your speeches can be listened over and over without getting bored by it. I want to grow my public speaking that is why i am interested by it
thank you for responding
Vusi, thanx a lot for this message.
wow VUSI your work is great my brother
Some leaders are better in a crisis because they realize what needs to be done and do it whether they are afraid or not. From my experience, leadership is about decision making. So many "leaders" are afraid of making a bad decision and end up screwing up either way.
The Best is Mr Vusi Thembekwayo.
A leader comes about when it's the time to step up, very true !!!!
Wow! Thank you VT
💯 Vusi... Thank you 🙏🏾
