My doberman just turned 1, her ears are cropped can i still post them up? if so how long would i have to post them so her ears finally stay up? She always uses her paws to rip off the posts :/
Hey Roy - You certainly can continue posting your doberman ears after the 1yr mark! There is no set limit. If I were you I would create or purchase some backer rods/ear posts and continue posting. I had other friends and dobie owners post well after the 1 yr mark.
My Doberman ears still has a bit of scabs from the cropping there healed but still little scabby he’s 10 weeks would you recommend to post now or wait thanks 🙏
Wait a week and check to see if scabs are gone. You have lots of time to post considering your puppy is 10 weeks old. :) Need to make sure scabs are gone before posting.
Dobermans ears are cropped between 10-12 weeks old. Veterinarians will have an age limit on when is the latest time to crop. Best recommendation is to call around local vets and see what your options are depending if you are still in the "time window" for cropping. In general, it is NOT recommended to crop ears when they are grown, since the ears are fully developed at that stage and this will cause significant damage to the ears.
Hey there! Does your doberman already have cropped ears? If he doesn't, it is usually NOT recommended to crop the ears at such a late stage. You should consult multiple veterinarians if it is an option. If he already has cropped ears, then you can post the ears, no problem. Just want to make sure that you understand the difference between cropping and posting. Hope that helps!
From about 8-10 weeks old you can start the cropping of the ears and i know some dogs ears go well and some not so well. The well part im talking about is time how long do you need to keep doing this on your dog average time thanks for the video.
It will depend for each puppy, but for mine I only posted for about 3 months starting when she was 15 weeks old. Some dog's ears will stand up quicker than others or it will take longer so it depends. The way to test is to not post them for a week and see how they stand. There were weeks where I didn't post my puppy and the ears were just fine.
If the tape is too tight around the ears, this will cut the blood flow/circulation which results in an infected ear which can lead to more problems. Make sure you are taping the ear respecting the structure of the ear. I would recommend checking the ears daily to see if there are any signs of discomfort or infection. Additionally, it's recommended to change the ear posts 3-4 days, which puts you in a better position to catch a situation where you may have accidentally taped too tight.
my Doberman had cropped ears but they weren't posted when I bought him as an adult. He's about 2 years old and was wondering if I can still post his ears up? If so, how long would the posting take??
Honestly, if I were in your shoes I would still try to post the ears even though you are past the timeline for posting. It does not hurt to try. I have seen other owners post after 1 yr mark and they saw results. Give it a try and post the ears for 1-2 months and see if anything happens! Again everyone will have different opinions but you will never know unless you try.
Love your video, thankyou, I live in Spain Can you please spell bacarod as I am not able to find on Amazon. I have a dobe puppy. Many thanks, love Eviee
Hey Jennifer! Its spelled “backer rod”. It should be 1/2 inch and here is the amazon link www.amazon.com/dp/B000BQWOC0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_RFDJ33GRND5ZN9K3YY95
1/You will see results in about 2-3 weeks, youll notice the ears standing on their own for a few hours here and there. 2/The more consistent you are with posting, the quicker you will get to the end goal where the ears stand on its own. It took me until the 9 month mark to get the ears to fully stand up. 3/Change the ear posts every 4 days. Remove them, clean the ear, let it breathe, check for infection, then repost immediately.
Is this done as soon as they were cropped? My vet just cropped my dobermans ears and returned her with no bandages. They said they should stand on their own
You went to a shady fucking Vet, that’s all kinds of wrong. You should be a shamed and they should get their licenses revoked. Ears don’t just stand without posting.
Hey Miguel - Ear posting should be done as soon as the ears are fully healed. Meaning no scabs are present. Posting is necessary to ensure the ears stand up as the cartilage gets firm. Sorry for replying so late. I hope you posted your dobermans ear. If you need more help you can email me at lody@earpostkit.com
Where do I buy this backer rod. In a hardware store? Again I'm in Panama so some things are hard to find and I'm inventing my own. No Zonas tape either. Does the unisol come in your kit? Help 🙏🙏🙏🙏
it all depends on when you started the ear posting process, which is usually when the puppy is 10-15 weeks old. From that age you then post until about the 1 yr mark. The ear posts need to be changed from the doberman's ear every 3-4 days with new ear posts. That way you clean the ears, make sure its not infected and then immediately repost with new ear posts.
It can be 6+ months it all depends on the type of crop you get done. “Military Cut” takes the shortest amount of time, then there’s “Medium Cut” and “Show Cut” would take the longest, possibly 8 months or so
Picking up my Dobbie pup tomorrow his ears were just cropped by the breeders a week ago . This is def going to come In handy . Question ? Can I use medical grade tape for around the ears ? Will it hold as well ? #newdobbiemum

@@SoundDr wolves have long tails but yet the people who mess with their dobermanns' ears also cut their tail until it's just a small stump. that reason doesn't hold up
All domestic dogs are created by people. Nature did not create the Doberman breed. Dogs can be born with erect ears as well as floppy. Nature is not a factor as all breeds known today were selectively created.
@@mikelor84 I thought so too until an expert explained their tail breaks with a lot of pain and bleeding, so they have to cut it and if it is done when they are puppies they'd feel no discomfort. In fact, the problem appeared due to original breeding
Wow how old was she when you did it? I have a female also same color and one ear flopped so i re did it this was at about 3months shes 4 months now but your dog looks a bit bigger
It's recommended that you post the ears until they are 6/7 months old as long as you have been posting consistently after the ears were cropped at 11/12 weeks of age. If you notice the ear flopping then I'd recommend posting the ears for another 2 months to ensure they don't flop further. Ofcourse you should be removing and replacing the ear posts every 3-4 days during the process. Every dog will be different and may take a longer time to get those ears to stand firmly consistently. You just have to try and see what works for you.
wow what well behaved absolutely gorgeous girl mine looks exactly like that. kassie is eight years old she is a permanent member of going everywhere with me off leash amazing!
Ear post should be changed every 3 - 4 days. Over all the "posting" timeline is from 6-8 months, depending on the dog and the frequency of your posting.
Have watched several videos different people doing ear posting. I like yours the best. Have a doberman & i used ur technique. However i have not used backer rod 4 the bridge. Question: how long do u leave this on days? How may day do u recommend it 2 b changed? And how many months do i need 2 do this? I noticed ur red dobie was not a puppy.
Carol - it will depend on when you start the ear posting process. It looks like you are a getting a puppy so you will be posting your puppy's ear until they reach the age of 1 as a good rule of thumb. 1/Using the backer rod for a bridge has helped the ear become more stable because theres more support instead of just using tape. Therefore the posts do not easily fall out. 2/You need to change the ear posts every 4 days. Make sure you check it everyday for signs of infection or if its wet. If you need more help I personally create earposts using the backer rod method and then provide support via earpostkit.com
I just tried this and it didn’t work his post came right out but I didn’t do it this way because I posted after I found your video the backer rod came out of the ear. Do I need to cut a longer backer rod or why is it that when he shakes the backer rod comes out
If the bottom part of the backer rod is popping out of the ear, but the ear post is still on the ear, then it should be fine as long as the ear post are shaped like this \-/ with a solid bridge. Overall here are a few tips to make sure it stays on: 1/Cut the backer rod tip in a diagonal manner so it has a pointer shape. This will help it stay/fit better when inserting it in the ear. 2/Use the zonas tape or medical paper tape to backwrap the backer rod so the sticky side is out which will help it stick to the inside of the ear. Which also helps it sticky to the tape when you are taping up the ear + the post. 3/Pull the ear all the way up while inserting the ear post and keep pulling the ear up as you are taping it. If you let it go down then the ear post wont be fitted properly 4/Use a solid backer rod bridge, which will help create the \-/ shape at the 11 and 1 oclock position and ensure that the ear posts remain in place together.
@@EARPOSTKIT yeah I tried I wasted so much material because it kept coming out and at that point a lot of places say re do it if it comes out but it’s been nothing but frustrating I’m going to try it again tomorrow I leterally tried for 4 hours and it just kept coming out. On top of that my pup isn’t staying still while I do any of it so that makes it so hard.
Try to get someone to help you hold your pup down while you do the ears. It's really hard when you are doing it yourself, specially in the beginning. If it continues to fall out, and you are really struggling... another option is to buy Torbot from amazon which is a skin safe glue. You can apply a small amount of glue to the ear post then insert the ear post in the ear. Then use the zonas tape to tape the ear + ear post. It is skin safe but it can get a little messy with Torbot. You will then need to get UNI-SOLVE Adhesive Remover to safely remove the ear posts. Either way, first try to the normal backer rod methot without the glue and get someone to help you hold your pup. Any suggestions on how to stop a 11 month old Doberman pup from scratching/ shaking the post off? I tried using this exact method but my day shakes his head and the post fall out. I am going crazy haha. Any help will be appreciated!
If its falling completely off then you probably need to add more tape to each ear. Secondly use a backer rod bridge, place the bridge as close as you can to the head so it can support both ears. Third try to take your dog out on a walk or something for the first 20 mins while the ear posts are in and the tape settles in. Try giving them a bully stick etc so they can pay attention to something else other than whats on their ears. If you need 1-1 support , email lody@earpostkit.com and I can help you out and see how you are posting the ears and walk you through it.
@@hectorespinoza7641 my mom's dogs (a dalmatian and an english setter) had both floppy ears and never had a single ear infection. I think that this ear infection thing is just an excuse to make the dog look 'prettier' (or scarier, hence the tail). I suspect that the ear infections are pretty much as rare in the dogs with pointy ears
@@mikelor84 actually it can help prevent some ear infections since Dobies are prone to chronic or recurring ear infections and the tail is not just cosmetic. With how thin the Doberman tail is they can suffer from happy dog syndrome where they get so happy or excited that they wag their tail and it hits or snags something and it breaks which is 10x more painful for the dog than getting cropped when they are a puppy. So yes it is partially cosmetic but it’s also for the dogs comfort and preventative measures.
@@luxisntlucky dobermans are not prone to ear infections at all so that bullshit argument needs to stop. And most ear infections anyway are easily treated. Dogs can also get eye infections how about we remove their eyes aswell.? How about you have a hysterectomy to prevent certain cancers. Surgucally modifing dogs to create a certain look is abhorrent Im so glad it is banned in countries that care about animal welfare.
@@rachelr3113 actually yes they are more prone to ear infections because they have the droopy ears, I can list more benefits to having them cropped if you so wish? 1. They improve the dogs hearing for guard and protection purposes. 2. Dropped ears can develop a blood pocket which is a build up of blood and requires surgery to remove ( my first dobie had this happen so that’s why I dock ears ) 3. They can also get caught in fights or when trying to protect there owner and get ripped off. (Which is more painful) There are more but I think that’s enough for now.
It usually depends but I aim for 3 - 5 days. Sometimes my dog takes it out on her own or maybe the backer rod gets pretty dirty from her playing. My advice would be to check the ears each day and lookout for signs of wetness, and any weird smells. If its wet it may get infected and just irritate the ear causing the tape to become tighter. If their is a strong smell coming from the ear it may be infected and lookout for any discharge.

How many inches for backer rod
The video uses 1/2 inch backer rod.
Hello I have my first Doberman 1year old I his ear not stand up enough I wonder can I again to make his ear stand up more?
Hey Roy - You certainly can continue posting your doberman ears after the 1yr mark! There is no set limit. If I were you I would create or purchase some backer rods/ear posts and continue posting. I had other friends and dobie owners post well after the 1 yr mark.
Do I have to use a baker rod bridge or can I just use the zonas tape between the ears?
Excellent video and your brown girl is so well behaved !!!
Thank you very much!
Hi. Thank you for the video.
What size backer rod do you use? And do you change the size as the dog grows?
The video states 1/2 inch backer rod, but you can increase the size as your dog grows if need be.
How long does it take to achieve the result?
It takes 3-4 months.
Do they have to be baby or you can still crop their ears when there grown
Dobermans ears are cropped between 10-12 weeks old. Veterinarians will have an age limit on when is the latest time to crop. Best recommendation is to call around local vets and see what your options are depending if you are still in the "time window" for cropping. In general, it is NOT recommended to crop ears when they are grown, since the ears are fully developed at that stage and this will cause significant damage to the ears.
How long does it take for the ears to stay posted after doing this however long I need

Hi dear
I have a question plz. I have a male doberman 6 month. And i want posting his ears now. I can post his ears even my dog has 6 month!
Thank u 🙏
What's the risk with this tight? I did tight, not really but that would sit well
If the tape is too tight around the ears, this will cut the blood flow/circulation which results in an infected ear which can lead to more problems.
@@EARPOSTKIT Thanks 🙏
my Doberman had cropped ears but they weren't posted when I bought him as an adult. He's about 2 years old and was wondering if I can still post his ears up? If so, how long would the posting take??
It’s too late to post
@@GreenYeen :( RIP
Honestly, if I were in your shoes I would still try to post the ears even though you are past the timeline for posting. It does not hurt to try. I have seen other owners post after 1 yr mark and they saw results. Give it a try and post the ears for 1-2 months and see if anything happens! Again everyone will have different opinions but you will never know unless you try.

in how long will I see results? and how often I should change pads
What size backer rod you using?
I am using a 1/2 inch backer rod.
@@EARPOSTKIT thank you sir
Where do I buy this backer rod. In a hardware store? Again I'm in Panama so some things are hard to find and I'm inventing my own. No Zonas tape either. Does the unisol come in your kit? Help 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thank you so much
Te felicito q vien e visto mucho y el tuyo es el mejor Grasias
I wish my puppy Can stay that way. He goes crazy. Let me see how it will go.
Why?
How long you should keep like that? Month or more?
it all depends on when you started the ear posting process, which is usually when the puppy is 10-15 weeks old. From that age you then post until about the 1 yr mark. The ear posts need to be changed from the doberman's ear every 3-4 days with new ear posts. That way you clean the ears, make sure its not infected and then immediately repost with new ear posts.
For how long is it required to post the ears 4 months? Or longer?
It can be 6+ months it all depends on the type of crop you get done. “Military Cut” takes the shortest amount of time, then there’s “Medium Cut” and “Show Cut” would take the longest, possibly 8 months or so
Can I start posting my dogs ears at around 8-9 months? Or is it to late?
Not quite sure. Try it out on yourself! Would love to see if you like it like your dog would!
Picking up my Dobbie pup tomorrow his ears were just cropped by the breeders a week ago . This is def going to come In handy . Question ? Can I use medical grade tape for around the ears ? Will it hold as well ? #newdobbiemum
Hey Gia! Yea make sure you backwrap the backer rod with the sticky side out. Then use the medical grade tape to tape the ear and backer rod together. The tape should meet these requirements:
-porous/breathable
-not at all stretchy or elastic
-not waterproof proof or water resistant
-fabric (preferably cotton), not plastic
Here are some alternatives if you cannot find J&J Zonas Tape:
1. Johnson and Johnson Coach Sports tape
2. Hampton Athletic tape. It is porous and not elastic.
Also feel free to order our pre made ear posts at earpostkit.com/ to save you time, all the kits come with J&J Zonas Medical grade tape.

After post the ear, at what time do we have to remove it? Is it 1 week?
You have to remove the ear posts after 3-4 days. Clean the ears, then go back to reposting them. We have a few articles here docs.earpostkit.com/earpostkit/ - feel free to email support@earpostkit.com as well for more help.
I'd admit they look better with pointy ears but I wonder is this good for the dog? the nature provides them with covers to protect their ears.
all hounds have floppy ears. comparing this thing that vets do to their ears when they're borne I think the latter is more natural
At what age did you cropped it’s ears ?
Eevee got her ears cropped when she was 7-8 weeks old. Usually ears are cropped between 8-12 weeks old. Definitely consult with your local vet tho!
@@EARPOSTKIT mine is almost a year old 😫 I wanna cropped them !
Where do sell them the kit ???

wow what well behaved absolutely gorgeous girl mine looks exactly like that. kassie is eight years old she is a permanent member of going everywhere with me off leash amazing!
How Long dis u leave him like that
For how long it stay on his ears ?
Overall here are a few tips to make sure it stays on:
1/Cut the backer rod tip in a diagonal manner so it has a pointer shape.
If you let it go down then the ear post wont be fitted properly
4/Use a solid backer rod bridge, which will help create the \-/ shape at the 11 and 1 oclock position and ensure that the ear posts remain in place together.

Doberman American?
Is this a total nonsurgical method....or is this post surgery?
This is post surgery.
If you need 1-1 support , email lody@earpostkit.com and I can help you out and see how you are posting the ears and walk you through it.
also make sure you are taping the backer rod with the sticky side out, this will make it stick more to the tape. this was a big difference for me.
Pups of this age in my opinion are just babies they shouldn’t have to go through this pups should be pups
What should be the perfect age we will do this
Cropping the ears should be done very early in a puppy's life usually at 7-9 weeks old based on some vets in my area.
Is there a medical reasoning behind ear cropping?? I’m confused
All it does it makes the dog look better and im guessing they do it because of ear infection or idk tbh
2. Dropped ears can develop a blood pocket which is a build up of blood and requires surgery to remove ( my first dobie had this happen so that’s why I dock ears )
3. They can also get caught in fights or when trying to protect there owner and get ripped off. (Which is more painful)
There are more but I think that’s enough for now.
How old is your dog?
She is 1yr and 2 months!
Please make sure that you are not blocking the ear canal with tape as it is really uncomfortable for them.
He put gauze at the end of it
Ears are wet inside ear without touching water after one day
How long do you have them on before taking them off and re applying again? thanks
