    Mr. Rutenberg, sir,
I've yet to see one of your paintings in the flesh, but I can sense the scale, texture and grandeur from your videos.
Moreover, I don't know if I could even take a room full of them at once.
Even the thumbnails of them, (each & every one), are like tiny-blowtorches hollowing out every notion in my skull of what is possible with color. I can't figure out how it is humanly possible to keep-up that level of genuine shock and surprise with each piece - (even if they're "only" about "trees & shadows.")
Your videos seem to operate the same way. The mix of recollections, historical painting analysis, individual pigment dissertations, studio action close-ups, all closing with a Koan or two keeps me on my toes. I feel like I absorbed more real feel and inspiration about real art in those few minutes than in all my decades reading, viewing and discussing painting.
    It is a privilege.

Hi Brian! I actually work at CofC - Kenton Youngblood is my work wife :) We run the major gifts program together. But I started painting abstract acrylics 3 years ago and am trying to find my way. I took a little break when I was pregnant with our daughter and got back into it when she was 6 months old or so. I’m currently working on a commission - my largest painting ever, a 48”x60” - and have actually been struggling with my path for this piece of work. I keep hitting roadblocks....painting at night after a full day of fundraising and putting my daughter to bed, then waking up in the morning and not being pleased with what’s on the canvas. I just wanted to say that I’ve listened to a few of your studio tours today in my AirPods while working and it’s really inspired and encouraged me. Thank you for the 250th painting you did for CofC and for your generosity there. Thank you for being such an incredible advocate for your alma mater - I’ve worked at CofC since I moved to Charleston in 2006 at the tender age of 25 (I moved from NYC) and I love the College so, so much. It’s my heart and soul and purpose. But my outlet from the daily stresses and conflicts (which I know you say we should embrace!) is painting at night. Thank you for sharing your story, talent, purpose, motivation and drive so honestly and eloquently! I hope to meet you on your next trip to Charleston post-pandemic. Stay well! Brian,
I must tell you that I love your videos.
Your voice is soft and soothing but yet direct when you want to emphasize a point.
I only had one art class in high school, back in the 70’s and I failed miserably. It was a fashion illustration class and somehow I thought that I would magically become as good as the other kids that already knew how to draw.
Well, I was wrong. I have always loved painting and drawing but mostly collage work, and over the years I’ve learned that it is repetition and consistency that have made me a better artist.
My failed pieces help me to make better pieces.
I am grateful for your knowledge on art and the artist that you talk about throughout your VLOG.
Plz don’t stop teaching the ppl like me - that need ppl like you.

im listening to you for some time now, and watch your videos, youre a giant, and I thank you for sharing your world with us, im struggling with colours, maybe thats because i never studied any colour theories and never practiced when i should have, but instead i discovered volume, clay modelling, and drawing, I abandoned it after failing exams at University back in 1998, and now, I abandoned my country also, for more than 10 years now, and am a humble simple working man, and because of you i bought clay again, and acrylics, and canvases, and mediums, charcoals, and I will try again to see if I can paint or at least do something with these two hands. Many thanks. God bless you and your family and friends. By the way, got your book from Amazon, i sleep with it beside my bed.

I'm not sure if you mentioned this artist in this Studio Visit or the most recent, but his name was Spencer.... something. You showed a piece of his work that I fell in love with. I can't seem to find it now. However, it has been good to listen to your thoughts on light etc. over again. Looking at a painting and recognizing what we've never seen before. I often think that is similar to having a feeling inside and finally trying to put it into words. Once you give it words, you can understand it and process it. Possibly, going back to overlooking the obvious. wow...what did I just say? anyway, Spencer....?
