Bruce Schneider especially considering if this was a concept the way to keep the look but make it functional you would literally use the stock wing design. A duck tail would’ve been better
This one is actually genius, the car looks modern while it retained the boxy design of the 80's. Even the choice of the wheels matched perfectly. Really cool
Well the 80s design is back, gm has a mid engine chassis, and they have no Miata/brz/boxster competitor. So I say longitudinal 4 cyl (turbo) from the base Camaro, put it as a Buick fiero, I'm saying just a simple flowing interior like the nsx/300zx and just put a touchscreen in the middle for everything, and sell it for 27,500 base price to be right in mx5/brz territory
Mark Renn This one like GXP version lol Cadiliac new 4.2 V8 Twin Turbocharged 550hp, 630Ibs of torque lol CT-6 V and XT5 V and XT6 V share the same engine.
Mark Renn Having owned 3 fastbacks it was a design waaaaaay ahead of its time as far as it being an American production The Fiero along with the Trans Am would just be sick in 2020!
There really wasn't a second gen, just updates and reskinning of the original. One thing he didn't mention (that I noticed) was that the car was also fairly unique in its space frame design, with bolt on body panels. Every body panel could be removed, and the car still be "complete" and "drivable". That made them very easy to restyle, which GM did with the 86+ GT. The GT looked completely different at first glance, but the major differences were really just the sail panels giving it a fastback look instead of notchback, and tail lights. This easy body panel replacement is also what made them so popular as kit car donors.
@@SpdstrZ I've always preferred 87/88 cars for that very fast back look you are talking about. I just wish Pontiac used the 2.8 liter turbo V6 from the Grand Prix GTP and a properly built manual transaxle from ZF or something. Just a 5psi low boost set up that made 220hp..... then let us gear heads handle the rest...lol
The one you modernized is an 88 formula, i have an 85 gt, just so your aware the 85 gt was a notchback and the 86-88 gt's were fastback, glad to see it being updated, and only 84 fieros caught fire due to poor castings for connecting rods on the duke and people redlining them, the 85 and up fieros were not prone to catching fire.
SketchMonkey should do a redesign using the Fiero GT as a starting point. The Fiero GT had a better look from the factory than the regular Fiero and Fiero Formula in my opinion. The rear sail panel on the Fiero GT gave it more of a Ferrari look than the regular Fiero with it’s steeply raked sail panel did.
Small correction, the Fiero production run was FIVE years. The 4th year, 1987, showed the best refinement of the original suspension system. In 1988, with the promise of minor exterior updates from mother GM, Pontiac updated the chassis AND the suspension to mimic the original engineers concept chassis from the late 70's, obviously INSPIRED by Lotus of the time.
Fun Fact: My first car was a 1987 Fiero GT! It was the white fastback model. Unfortunately, I had to get rid of it because I needed something practical. Still, it was a fun car to drive nonetheless.
I love my 84 Fiero so much!! She needs a bit of TLC here and there but I wouldn't have her any other way! She runs beautifully, rides great, and is a time capsule to my favorite era! I love the 80s so much!!
I had an old Fiero Euro GT, and it was a REALLY fun car to drive. I think it was ahead of it’s time, and was built when American cars wasn’t known for quality
We have the brand new 1984 fiero and my dad rebuilt it from the frame up from other parts of fieros and race car parts. It is SWEET. He put a Cadillac v-8 in it.
I cannot believe this video passed me. The rear is crying for some vents to break up that massive back panel. Being an older guy, I loved these things back in the day. I ended up buying a brand new 1991 Honda CRX Si which I loved but I still wondered what the Fiero with a Quad4 motor and the suspension improvements would have been like.
Very few actually caught fire boyo, and it was only 1 year that had the issue. With some proper cleaning and maintenance it would've been far less of an issue too. That being said awesome video! Would be cool to see your view of a fastback too!
I might have misheard you but the Fiero started in ‘84 with the only engine option being the 2.5 which was available with a 3 speed auto and the 4 speed manual (2M4 package stood for 2 door, manual trans, 4 cylinder) and the 2.8 was offered in the 86 under the GT package and you could now get two different 5 speed options (Isuzu made or Getrag made). The 2.5 “iron dukes” were the engines that would catch fire.
The fire issue were only in the 84 production year. There was a massive recall which fixed that problem. It was caused by the oil pan. The online 4 engine required 4 quarts of oil but they went with a 3.5 quart pan so when people pushed the engine harder than it was intended yes they caught on fire. The stopping of production was also caused by pressure from GM at the time because they were out selling the more expensive corvette which was causing them to loose money so they stopped production so people would be forced to buy the more expensive corvette if they wanted a sporty car.
This was a really good redesign of the classic Pontiac Fiero. Too bad GM discontinued the Pontiac and Oldsmobile brands a few years back! You did a great job on this one. The Fiero was one of my favorite American sports car designs of all time. They were very tiny sports cars though.
I feel like this was a good attempt that just missed the mark for me. The scoop design is excessive and the light bar dipping down at the ends just isn't right somehow. I also would have rather liked to see a fastback model modernized.
I'd love to see you do 3 cars: 1. A restyle of the Ford Sierra RS Cosworth 2. A restyle of the Mitsubishi Starion ESi-R 3. A restyle of the Lancia Delta HF Integrale These are 3 of my favorites!
What I do hate about my fiero which I wish I could change like you showed is the rear bumper. I hate those darn reflectors. They honestly are useless and take up room that could be used for a rear defuser. Great job sir!
In 1987 Pontiac offered an upgrade package for the Fiero where they would customize it to look exactly like a Ferrari 308 they would call the Mera which got them in a lot of legal trouble Ferrari and were discontinued after 258 units making the Mera the most rarest and valuable Fiero ever.
The Pontiac Fiero came out a year before the Toyota MR2 hit the market. 1983 was the debut of the Fiero and 1984 was the debut of the MR2. So technically the MR2 looks like the Fiero.
I just bought an 86. Thing had been sitting for 4 years before I got ahold of it. Had it moving under it's own power within a day, and within a week I was driving it to work. Runs like a top and handles like a dream :)
I kind of think that the modern Fiero would be an economy version of the corvette. Maybe do a redesign of the C8 with a V6 or i4. I would find it interesting to see what a Pontiac version of aC8 would look like.
Yeah I agree with some of the other comments and think you should do version 2 of a "2020" Fiero GT but start with the fastback body rather than the notch back as notch back is heavily dated. Honestly I would look at some of the last Tran-Ams, the C8 Corvette, and the Lotus Evora for possible ideas on modernizing the Fiero GT. The main reason I though the Evora in there is because it is another 2,700 mid engine V6 sports car and a 2020 Fiero would be to the Evora what a C8 Corvette is to most super cars today, keeps up and beats a lot of them at a fraction of the price.
Trust me. You need those plastic trim parts on that car. It practically acts as a guard when people scape the side, that way they hit the trim and not the body paint. (I have a Fiero and I’ve been saved by that trim too many times😂) albeit, artist’s liberty though.
How do you get to the engine? You extended the rear wing and made it molded into the rear corner panel thus creating a bridge over the rear deck lid. Because the radiator was located in the front the air scoops on the side do not have to be so dramatic.
almost looks like a Mira, 84 was the only year that they had fire issues which GM recalled and fixed it. original wheels were 13 on base and 14 on SE models . it is a niche market car people have swapped 3.8 super charged motors to Corvette motors. 4.9 l Cadillac. one you tuber is doing a K20 swap . so actually the Fiero is the most versatile.car for the Hobbyist. plus it was the number 1 car used for kit cars . the 2020 C8 has design Qs from Fiero even though they wont admit it lol. nice work!!

Just a quick thought, these redesigns are looking great but they look more like body kits, maybe redesign the most lines and structure? A body shape like this wouldnt be designed today
If I may be so bold, I know you are usually open to criticism: So, if I imagine to look at the car from the side, the air intake would look like this: ">" wouldn`t it have been coole to have the refelct in the rear lights? The Fiero came out first. Therefore the MR-2 Looks like the Fiero.
This!!!
you can't even argue how's the imitator far more successful in commercial sales and motorsports during it's lifespan
Even "MR2" was a near copy of the Fiero's "2M4" moniker
The car was the first car ever designed around a person. And that is the intake going to the throttle body. Stick to photoshop chump.
The Fiero and MR2 share a common Lotus ancestor.
While your integrate wing looks good, it prevents the rear deck lid from opening.
