I, too, am very unfulfilled by my 50 hour a week labor job (welding). All I want to do is paint. I think about it all day, make plans to go out plein air, and am dedicated to my progress. But I’m always so tired from work and only manage to paint a few hours a week. Stories like yours keep the hope alive!
Hello, thank you for sharing your story, I totally get it. Ten years ago I was in the same situation as you, working a job that wasn't serving me and thinking about painting all the time, dreaming of being a full time artist. In the end I quit my job and made it happen. Would it be helpful for you to hop on a quick 10-15 minute Zoom call with me or my head coach to see how we can help you to take your first steps to becoming a full-time artist? If this interests you, book a call with us, it's free: calendar.app.google/Jjkr5RnaRAV1oo759
Thank you for this, Mr. Sam. I am like you in that I see where I have struggles. I was able to sell some work but I never work large enough to sell originals…so I just sold prints and print canvases. Struggle w color combinations and also w too much drawing and not enough room to use paint-this happens because I use WC paints. As I’ve looked for mentors and also just someone to paint alongside on plein air adventures, and haven’t found a single person willing to help or to adventure with, I’ve given up. I do not have the luxury to quit my job and may have to have a second one here soon. But every day as I drive to work, I dread another day of not doing what I feel like I’m supposed to be doing. Your encouragement is much appreciated even though I understand it will be a few years before I can make any real moves as I have a list of things I need to take care of first, including family obligations and some mean budgeting. Ha. But I will hold onto your words and ideas, using them to spur my plan-making and slow progress forward toward the goal-working from the field and not dreading every drive to work. I’m glad you found your calling and stuck w it. Your paintings show the love you have for what you see and for your brushes.
Hey Jessica, thank you for sharing your thoughts. I had the same problem back in the day of needing help with my art but artists not willing to help me. I am an art mentor and I coach artists like yourself so if that interests you then send me an email at: art@samuelearp.com. We can hop on a Zoom call and I’ll see how I can help you with your artistic journey. Also have you joined my free Painters Hub art group? I have loads of free painting tutorials there. We artists learn more and more as time goes on. So happy you are painting. Your art is beautiful. I am a painter also. I know very few painters in my little town so it is always wonderful to see people like you talk about art. Thank you. USA
Thanks for sharing your journey over the years. Around 23 years ago I was selling my artwork for pretty good prices, at least for me it was, but I never had the courage to go full time so it never went anywhere, and like yourself I’m just too tired after work to do any worthwhile painting. Im really pleased to see it has worked out for you, and I enjoy your painting videos. 😊
I was following Andrew many years ago, and then I remember when you cropped up on one or two of his videos, so I started following you as well. Congrats on your journey. This was a really interesting and inspiring story! Sounds like it was a long, hard road, but you're making it. Thanks for sharing! I'm at the point that I'm looking for a mentor. I'm not looking to run an art business. I just want to get better so that I can give my art work away and sell enough to pay for my supplies without using a credit card. That's pretty much it. Anyway, thanks for this video!
Great Video! I found you on IG around 2015 maybe 2016 ? I love your landscape paintings, and especially your Seascapes! I NEED to Own one of your Originals!!!
Thanks so much! I am always happy to hear from longtime followers! I have originals for sale on my website and I’ll be adding more paintings soon. Check it out: samuelearpfineart.com/ 😊
This is a great and inspiring story, Sam. Now I finally know how Andrew and you got to know each other :) and now I also understand why you know the shapes of the trees better than him - I am always impressed by your knowledge in his live streams ;) And yes, I could not agree more regarding Andrew's teaching skill - whenever I am painting I am amazed and grateful of how much I learned. Good luck to you. I am sure that you are able to coach many people successfully.
That was your best video yet Sam! A wonderful, success story! Very heartfelt, down to earth and heartfelt :) I just knew that you and Andrew had met, I can definitely see his influence and I admire both yours and his styles ...I will try to contact you privately, I would like some advice:) Keep up the good work!
Thank you for sharing your journey. It is quite inspiring. I actually learned of you from Andrew’s plein air video and was taken with your style. Thrilled to be part of your school as well. All the best!
You made a brave decision Sam but my oh my the right one your videos are so good professional and very informative your talent is awesome and how you put it across never fails to delight and give me such joy 🤩 with tips for every artists medium
Love the video. I learned more things about you and your journey. I have learned a great deal from you over the past 5 years. Thank you so much for all the work you put into helping other artists ❤
Out of interest have you ever painted a view from up in the tree canopy, like looking down through the branches etc . I know a daft question but I had to ask.
Sucks how most artists, even the best, have to teach art as well to get round. But I guess that has always been the case, except for a few "lucky" ones. Unless of course you enjoy teaching. And luckily there are those that teach of course.

To other painters who have been willing to share their knowledge about painting, a BIG THANK YOU !!!!!!!
Oops , fat fingers, ( to you and other painters)
yeah earning a living . which stifles creativity
For me having a full time job was stifling my creativity. I am so thankful to be able to paint full time and help other artists, it's very rewarding 😀
very interesting pubs but I do not see anything about art
