Nothing can be more somber than seeing an engine that delivered booster rockets and machinery to the Space Program be sent to a railroad museum, which is like a retirement home of sorts. With the closing of the NASA Railway in 2013, engines like NLAX SW1500 #2 are being written off, and this rust bucket was donated to the Gold Coast Railroad Museum in Miami, FL. Meaning, this engine had to hitch a ride on four locals on the Florida East Coast Railway and meet CSX train O721-12 at none other than the Oleander interchange near KMIA. The Bike (Trainchaser mini?) did its work and did me proud on Wednesday as I turned out for it. Mostly focused on photo, I managed to grab some video footage, and am having the pleasure of sharing it w/ you guys. Unfortunately, I couldn't get this thing again as traffic was just awful, and the more elusive shots around GCRM are hard to get. But this was definitely a rare shot and I was glad to get something. Hope you guys enjoy!
Nonetheless, I wish this engine a bright future and good restoration.
You can also hear about 960 having killed a Darwin candidate.
EPIC VIDEO Tolga! This is one for the ages! Thanks for taking the time of getting the stills and posting them on Flickr!
Nice video Tolga. That was a rather quick exchange. The Crew are very nice

Love a NASA stuff.
That Toyota tundra looks so tiny compared to those locomotives
Been there a lot of times, But got to say, your catch is the best Ive seen at oleander so far! :) Quick question, you dont happen to remember what prop plane took of at 6:34, cause havent heard of any props visiting miami in a while.
Might be ATR-72s American Eagle (now Envoy) or the Dash-8 from Bahamasair.
Sounds like that could be it. Thanks for the info. :)
