- Update: RIP - March 17, 2017 - Thanks for 14 wonderful years. Ollie was my best friend and cycling buddy. He'll be sorely missed.
Ollie is a 12 year old mutt! He weighs 45 lbs and we've had him since he was a puppy (we got him from the ASPCA shelter in Long Beach). Found this used custom built cargo bike on Craigslist and thought it would be awesome if I could teach Ollie to ride on it. This video is about how I trained him and some videos of our rides.

You and Ollie’s Mom are great dog owners. There’s nothing more satisfying than seeing you sweet dog enjoying life. When I see people out walking or jogging w/o a dog I can’t imagine why. 🤔 good job with the cargo bike!
Sorry to hear Ollie is gone. He's a beautiful dog. Rest in peace Ollie.
As a big dog lover and very enthusiastic cyclist, I loved this video.
Thanks for sharing.
you probably dont give a shit but if you are bored like me during the covid times then you can stream all of the latest movies and series on Instaflixxer. I've been watching with my girlfriend recently =)
@Benedict Marco Yup, I've been watching on instaflixxer for since november myself :D
Oh my gosh! I have tears in my eyes. That was so beautiful! True love! Thank you!
What an amazing thing to do for Ollie. I really enjoyed this footage. Kinda felt like I was sitting right there enjoying the scenery with Ollie.
Thanks for showing your progress with Allie, it's helpful to us considering having to train our dogs to ride a trailer or cargo bike watching you two.
hey Ollie’s mom and dad ;) just wanted to say a thank you as this made my day. Not only Ollie riding backwards, the blooper reel and all things dog en bike, also the humour throughout, the bright blue skies and beautifully idyllic life over there.
I’m both ashamed and proud to admit that I ride that path down venice beach on the video bikes at the gym in Glasgow 😂 where we have had rain sleet and snow for about 4 weeks now 😭
Anyways, I’ve been looking for a good way to get my dog on the bike travels for summer and never considered a cargo bike... its a great idea and cheers to mom with the tray idea so Ollie can be chillin like a villain 😉🐶
Take it easy and enjoy your beautiful blessed life over there.
Bear & Hank 🐻🐶
I just happened across this clip by accident. I am loving this and your love for that pup! It sure appears that you guys are very fortunate to have found each other. You just made my day! Thanks for sharing! Mike in Bainbridge Ga
me and my dog are waiting for our cargo e bike to arrive in the next week! Gonna be awesome! I hope my dog will enjoy it as much as yours did. Thank You and Ollie for the vid :) rip ollie
I loved watching Ollie learn how to ride a bike.
I saw the same thing in Amsterdam: a lady gave her big dog a ride in her bakfiets (dutch for cargo bike). Instead of a platform only, it was a bin, so the big Benner Sennen dog (kind of Saint Bernard, but in black ad white) couldn't jump out. It was great to watch. The dog loved it to anywhere with his owner.
We had an Ollie, his name was Mick. Best dog ever.
❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊 outstanding video way to go looks like he's smiling ☺ and having fun one happy dog there two thumps up.
Ollie's adorable and I think it's great you take him along on rides.
R.I.P Ollie, Mans best friend to the end. ( Nice with the slow-mo work.)
Bike and dog in one video, eh? The best! Thank you for this... was a real up-lifter.
RIP Ollie, luv yu. I do the same using a tandem mobility scooter with a platform in place of the rear seat. My dog luvs it and barks with joy all along despite his arthritis and knee deformaty.
That was nice!. I love what you did for Ollie👍
Hope to see you on the boardwalk this summer. Nothing better than a dog with his ears pinned back - a sure sign that he's having fun.
awesome video, awesome pup
Just started hanging out at bikeforums.net and saw your link to this video. Loved it, great stuff. :-) I tip my hat to you for being an excellent dog-owner. Ollie is in good hands...give him a treat for me. --John, Springfield MO
this made me so happy. I wish I'd thought of this option for my sweet 16 1/2 year old border collie when she was still here
Thanks for the video Howard, congrats,I'm going to build one for my dog and my self, once again congrats....
That was great. Santa Monica looks beautiful.
I'm thinking of training my 1 year dog to ride on my bike trailer with me. I still have worries if she will ever accept riding on a bike trailer but this looks so promising! If 12 year old dog can do it so should my dog. Just a little patience is required. Great video! even showing some mishaps is very helpful.
Coooool . I like the slowmo mom. Thanks for leaving it in the video . LOL
Beautiful video, my friend! Congratulations
Lovely video - Ollie was a lucky dog. Sorry to hear he is no longer with you.
Was a bit worried until you put the sides on, but when you got those sides on it looks great. Ollie surely likes cruising along by the beach. I'd love one for my newf! I think I'd need a very big basket!!! :D
Well done. It looks kind of a Babboe bike, you see them a lot in Holland. It's a cargo bike, Dutchies use it a lot to transport their kids but dogs too and they can't jump out like Ollie did. There is also a Babboe dog-bike. But this works too and you did it yourself. Cuddles to Oliie he looks very happy.
R.I.P Ollie, looks like he lived the good life :)
SLO mo that scenery is fantastic 😂😂👍👍😍
Good Work Fella (for both your efforts and the video) :)
Love it...respect ❤🐕👍
luckiest loved dog ever :)
Great video! This is what I am hoping to do with my new dog.
Tell mom you guys did it right. R.I.P. Ollie.
Let the good times ROLL......!
.....qe noble amigo humano.... Saludos y qe Dios lo bendiga....
Good work!
Very, very cool video!
Wonderful Video.
Nice slow mo at the end! Hope your wife isn't watching!
Nice bike too! My dogs are getting old too, got 3 of them, trying to build a sidecar for my bike, I just suck at building and get frustrated easily, its a vicious circle
That's cool, great idea.
It is so nice, that you care so much, about your 12 year old dog🐶❤️ In 3 month I will get a Baby Dog, and I also will buy a bycicle, what ist a bit the same, like in the Video. I have no car , and for the long city ways and streets , the dog will be komfortabel and save. 😁Sorry, my english is not good in writing.,. greetings from Berlin 🐶❤️🐶❤️🐶❤️
Lovely video. ¿Would you share the bike plans? I would like to build a bike like that. Thanks in advance! (I´m sorry for your loss).
Thanks for the video:)
Thank you for the video link , but i've saw the video a few hours ago already .
No need to say i'm just jealous of Ollie . LOL.
You know , one of the advantages of G+ is to share a private comment right here . ( but in this case not possible ) .
Also , the old PM doesn't work anymore without G+ . Too bad .
That's so cool!
That looks like one happy dog! Have you ever considered a back harness instead of the throat collar? They are a lot better for dogs and in your case it may be better for riding on the bike.
Awe RIP Olie
Nice design , I would add a little some thing , cut out on one side only a little opening for him to get in easier and second mount a leash holder at the front of his bed so as for him to see that He is leashed in , this will stop him from wanting to jump out, try to train him into asking him if he wants to run , after a little bit the dog will catch on and will give you a sing that He wishes to walk , you just need to listen closely
I like it better when the dog is on his own feet, but awesome bike.
yes, he did a great job of training you...
My niece asked do you know the trees in the video
santa monica!! venice!!! me encanta!!
GReat video, Howard!! It looks like the cargo bike is pretty easy to ride?
quedecree Thanks! It takes a bit to get used to riding a long cargo bike, but it's not hard. The hardest part is that the bike weighs about 80 lbs and Ollie is 45 lbs. So it's a bit tough going uphill. I consider it good exercise. And it's fun!
Howardv why did ollie jumpf off the bike, while riding on that bike strip? that is dangerous! he could get hit by another cyclist. tell him to stop doing that! maybe add some side doors, so he can't just jump off for no friggn reason! lmao..
ohh and as far as i know, the us is quiet a liberal place when it comes to electric bicycle-motors. adding one could make the uphills easier.
3:30 That look was like "dang it humie, why the hell didn't you do this years ago" :P
where can i get a bike like yours,,and how much did you pay for it....ive got a 150 pound rottweiler.....so i was looking for something similar.......any info would help thanks......

Nice with the box
Very good , I like to have one.
Please secure that poor dog with a harness and short leash to keep him from falling or flying off in case of sudden stop or sharp turn!
I love dog lovers
