Thank you!! It was a satisfying process! I need to do more oil pastel work. There's something therapeutic to it! (Of course, that could be said for any art process.) 💖

It is such great work, Shana! I love when you explain your process and the materials you are using, especially when you use different mediums on different surfaces (i.e. markers on ampersand board and oil pastels on Lux Archival, etc.) I always enjoy your videos.

Nice piece as usual, Shana! I was watching watercolor paint dry on one piece , and decided I'd pull out my oil pastels .I took a break and watched this - I never thought of using colored pencils with oil pastels, lightbulb moment! I am headed to my studio to play around with them. Great tip!

Thank you, Elizabeth! I hope you enjoy working with the two together! I find it works best on paper that has a bit of tooth, like a sanded paper, so the pencils have something to grip to through the pastels.

I thought the title of the video meant your oil pastels had green peppers in them or you were cooking the two together 🤭🤣! Your oil pastel painting is amazing!

Gorgeous of course! I’m really surprised about your glowing review of the van goh oil pastels. I had a really hard time with them especially the greens, so I’m really impressed. The greens always came out really streaky and not very creamy at all. Do you think I just got a bad box or do you think its your technique with the blenders that modulates the pigment better? Thanks!

I wonder if it's the kind of paper? I have the best luck with them on a coarse or sanded surface. I find it harder to blend or layer the way I like on a smooth surface. But that's just my personal experience with them. Thank you by the way!

@@CautionArtistatPlay I generally use cold press watercolor paper or a mixed media paper i haven’t tried the really rough stuff but it’s not smooth paper. I’ll give the paper you mentioned a try. Thanks!

May not be you, the paper or a bad batch. @@GreenSharpieScience Many oil pastel users talk about greens being weird across several brands of oil pastels which are blended with one type of oil....but not the same problem in oil paints which are blended with linseed oil. The actual green pigments used by the legacy brands is the same across their product lines but the oil binders differ. Different pigments just don't dissolve well in all binders....happens in acrylics, oils and watercolours too. Hardly at all with dry pastels though, very little binder used with those.

It's funny, I just heard Lindsay mention it in one of her videos the other day, and I never knew that greens could be weird in oil pastel. I only really started working with the medium a couple of years ago and haven't run into it, but I haven't used green a lot until this piece. I didn't really notice any issues with this one, but it had been a while since I had worked with them, so maybe I just didn't have anything recent to reference this experience to. I haven't noticed issues in acrylics either, but have worked with those for years, so I may just be used to it lol.
