Farmer Tyler Ranch, I have an idea for your subscribers. Next time you sell calves, do a video on the whole auction process. I went to the auction this past weekend, and I think it would be very interesting for your viewers to learn how the auction process works. Maybe do an interview with some of the people at the auction to help others understand how prices are determined and how the process works from delivery, to sale, and then off to the next ranch or feeder lot.

Like your videos Tyler. You are a good teacher. Brings back memories from the early life experiences when growing up on a farm was pretty plain Jane. Your operation follows that simpler style of doing things not trying to copy the “big” boys methods.

You’re being a responsible caretaker of your cattle and of your ranch. And support your family as well. These aren’t pets and you won’t have the ranch for long if it’s not economically feasible. You put a lot of thought into your decisions and they all make good sense.

🎥😄 As always a good video. Appreciate that it’s not easy, but necessary to cull cows. To be a good farmer you make the hard decisions. You care for each cow, but your business is to have the best beef cows, and that takes weeding out those that are under par. These are good things you have to do to keep your farm healthy, growing healthy cows, and trustworthy. To give your best. Thanks! Have a great weekend you and yours. 😃

Good morning Tyler, it is sometimes hard to decide which cattle are sold in which get to stay. You have to be strong about your decision process and not emotional about it because that won’t help you in a long line to have a good financial business for your farm! You can’t help sometimes they’ll get closer to some animals than others and therefore, the decision is harder to make if you do happen to get closer to an animal when it comes time to take them to the sale barn.
I do appreciate you explaining each of the reasons why you chose the animal you did and also explaining the criteria for which You choose not to sale.
Truly enjoy your videos and good luck at the sale barn❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️

Interesting about your Callie being interested in herding cattle! I once had a Newfoundland, Luie (Newfs were used in developing the Labrador breed), who liked to herd sheep! I took him to a couple of sheepherding classes to see what he thought about it, and it turned out Luie was a born sheepherding dog. He had the speed, the eye, and his size (he was a huge guy) worked well with those sheep. He nevet snapped at them, just used his eyes, great presence, and agility beautifully. The people there with Border collies and Australian shepherds were amazed and impressed. You never know what a dog is going to do when presented with a new situation! Even if they're not bred for it!

    Hi farmer Tyler Ranch 🤠🐂🐂🐂🐂🐂
    Hi Farmer Tyler 👋
This is the side of Ranching city guy's like me find it hard to hear about.
The cows and bulls are beautiful and fun to watch and take care of . I guess it's the sind of Ranching no one with a compassion for animals of all kinds never gets used to . Number 7 thanks for sharing the store . I could never work in the food industry of taking life from a animals. I guess because I never been around a farm Ranch and have to provide food from my own animal.
When I was 7 year of age my mom moved me and my older sister to my mom's boyfriends house he was Hungarian and he cooked a lot of different foods Hungarian style. Delicious food I got used to very quickly. I do remember a incident when he forced me to finish my dinner before I could leave the table it was a large stick steak that I couldn't finish. I vaguely remember that evening but I remember it some. After my mom had seen I couldn't eat another bite of that steak she let me leave the table and told her boyfriend to let me go watch TV. I went and sat in front of the television feeling scared and unconfident of myself for not being able to choose just how much food I can eat and why was I forced to eat more food than I wanted it was a form of abuse I was too young to understand what it was. I'm glad my mom had the compassion to allow me to leave a table and not forced to eat any more food than I could. Or wanted to. That evening as I sat in front of the television I felt these feelings and a light-headedness the next thing I knew I woke up in a hospital with cold ice packs on my chest and forehead I immediately wanted to sit up my mom was there with the doctor and her boyfriend. They told me to lay down and don't try and get up. I was unconscious for quite a while about 30 minutes or more. Later on I learned I had a seizure. When I was a tiny baby I had seizures sometimes. I'm pretty sure at the age of seven years old being forced to eat a very large stick steak that was barbecued on a grill to perfection had a lot to do with me having a seizure after being forced to eat more than my fair share. I guess we're all a learning in progress in our lives. You shared your life stories so I just thought I would return the favor and share with you a part of my life story farmer Taylor 👍
    Joey ⚓🇺🇸

Culling a herd for the most part is never easy but very necessary for the future of the herd, sometimes for safety of the humans involved and financial future of the ranch. Callie barking from outside the corral can be very beneficial to turn back or distract a angry cow / bull long enough for you to run up the fence or move to a safer position in the corrals.

I remember those times all to well. Johnny Horizon was our food pig. My father told us to be kind to all animals but not to get attached to certain animals because eventually we would be eating them. Pretty odd request as I remember at 12 years old. So my brothers and I did, unfortunately get attached to pig Johnny. Very sad day when we had to process him and put him in the freezers. I couldn't eat pork for a couple of years.
I still am a meat eater. I just appreciate the animals that come from the store nowadays. I still think about all the animals that were on our farm in a good way.

Cattle aren’t pets. Whether they’re beef or dairy cows, they’re still economic commodities. Farming is fundamentally a profit making business. Culling decisions affect the entire economic performance of both the herd and the farm. Milk production, reproductive status and mastitis were the big three reasons that culled a cow and sent her to auction. My granddad and uncle both said that cull day was payday. Was true in the 1960’s and it’s still true today.

He repeated the word 'cull' several times. Look that up in a dictionary.

I'm curious, you take them to auction? Market? Sale? You never talk about how much money you get from selling cows. Could you explain the process more?

If a bull is only good for 2 years, what are you going to do when your calf bulls breed for 2 years?

Bulls are good for much longer than two years. Tyler has a smaller herd so when he used the “old” bull prior to buying him, so he will daughters from him that will ready to be bred. Tyler now has a plan in place to rotate the new bull calves as herd sires…..yes, at some point he will be probably havre to sell the young bulls too, but, he will have a genetically super bull to sell or lease to another rancher. Ranching is a hard decision making job.
