    👩🏻🎤🎵🌎⭐️🇳🇴❤️ Nico Cartosio composed this song specifically for Angelina to sing (hence the name, "Song For A"). The lyrics are from the 1783 poem "The Rigs O' Barley" by 18th century Scottish poet Robert Burns (1759-1796). Cartosio says, "Song for A is the only song on the album. It is performed by Angelina Jordan, a very young and very talented singer. I needed a bright final for my instrumental album. After the series of cold hells and Melting itself I longed for a song of a liberated soul, a soul that was set free from suffering. So, I remembered a beautiful poem by Robert Burns and wrote this song especially for Angelina. And she gave a sensual performance."

    “Tibetans believe: there are eight cold hells where souls of sinners will freeze forever after death, - tells Nico Cartosio. - But there are also eight cold hells here, on Earth. And we’re sent there by ourselves. Depression, arrogance, wrath, lack of love - all these things freeze our souls. But even from the bottom of the deepest and the coldest of hells do we hear the music of our hearts still hot”.
    The composer Nico Cartosio album “Melting” has 8 arrangements that takes the listener through many stages of the human soul from depression to coldness to destruction then hope and freedom. The music is very dark however the last track represent the hope, love, and freedom at the end. Nico Cartosio wanted a vocalist to present his last track and he chose Angelina to deliver it. It’s the only piece of music on the album that is accompanied by a vocalist. The result is a masterpiece.
    The lyrics are from the 1783 Robert Burns Rigs O’Barley. Some of the words have been changed to modern English.
    Thank you for your reaction and keep up the good work.

    to really enjoy this beautiful song you need to close your eyes and. just listen to how Angelina's voice blends in with the music. Try it. How can such a young person interpret such a difficult song and do it so well. Only Angelina !!!!! Love Love Love her. 💝💝💝💝💝

    I must start with my appreciation of your in depth analysis of this composition. Yes here Angelina is an instrument in the orchestra- in this case like a violin - in the Jazz songs she is perhaps more like a saxophone- in either case she adds the emotion, the passion to the piece. Not often that I come across a DJ with such appreciation of classical music. Your time at music college was not wasted. If you want to find yet another style from Angelina try "above the water" - music for the younger generation to dance to.....

    Great reaction, I'm glad you came back with Angelina, Tyler. This by Nico Cartosio is one of the songs that I love most of Angelina, for me it has a dreamy and romantic musical atmosphere that her voice makes absolutely transcendental, with her soft musical waves that slowly slide around you, it could be the column sound of a day in paradise, the ending with the violin solo is magical ❤️❤️
    This is the only song on the entire CD and was deliberately made by Nico for Angelina, chosen to be the only voice present in her entire first "Melting" recording project, the disc was recorded in the Abbey Road studios (that of the Beatles) just over a year ago while Angelina's voice was recorded in New York and then joined to the backing track 😊
    Some of the words used in the song are in archaic English, the poetry is more than 200 years ago and some of the words are now out of current use or not used in the current context, for this reason also the text a scrolling is functional. There is also a video of Cartosio on the composition of the CD in the studios in London with professional musicians.

    The story behind the song is that described by 9Ballr.
    What I wanted to point out is: 1) a well-known composer chose 12 year-old Angelina to sing the the only song for his series. How unique is that?; 2) Angelina's voice here is, like you said, another instrument which meshes perfectly well with the rest of the orchestra. There are some very tricky notes here which she delivers flawlessly.
    As you have seen from the reactions you've already made to her songs, there's no limit to what she can do. ♥

  • @yves2932
    @yves2932 4 роки тому +14

    That's exactly what she does, feel the essence of the song and put it into the center. Everything else, including voice, follows.
    After listening to some of her songs of similar style people often form an assumption that is her style. They are in for some suprises then ;-) Even from her originals you wouldn't be sure at first sight they are from the same artist after all.
    I enjoy your appreciative reviews.

    To me this is the sound of the golden age of music. This reminds me of Frank Sinatra and Dina Washington era of music. Or Rogers and Hammerstein. I love to just listen to the 10th anniversary concert of Les Mis while I’m cleaning house.

    Here is the first time you can hear Angelina’s pure voice without inflections from anyone. I can picture Nico sending this out to 10 or 15 singers and them looking at it and saying what the hell do i do with this. Angelina’s abilities are beyond comprehension. You mentioned music theory. I remember reading somewhere reading that Angelina started studying music theory at seven. I tried to find reference but could not find at this point. Many thanks for this reaction

      Agreed. And it grows on me every time I hear it. When you put this in the context it is in, it just get so hauntingly beautiful. The violin in the end puts the most beautiful topping on this masterpiece. I am so glad Nico Cartosio chose Angelina to sing this, no one does it better. And she is just 13 here. I have to remind me of that from time to time, because it should not be possible. Yet it is, as we all know.

    How ever a super react to her. I like your way how you explain the little details. We all know that Angelina can sing almost any genre. I'm just waiting for the day when she uploads a video in which she sings an opera aria. This is possible because Angelina also receives lessons in classical singing. And since your grandfather was an opera singer, this is very likely. 👏👋👍😉

    I'm glad you checked this out. Your postulate that Angelina is like a musical instrument in this is not only interesting but gives an enhanced dimension to why I love this song. AJ plays piano, guitar, flute, and violin. She studies dance. She is guided in painting by her grandmother Mery Zamani, an accomplished artist. Nice that you appreciate classical and orchestral music.

    An FYI from Wikipedia: "Classical music is art music produced or rooted in the traditions of Western culture, including both liturgical (religious) and secular music. While a more precise term is also used to refer to the period from 1750 to 1820 (the Classical period), this article is about the broad span of time from before the 6th century AD to the present day, which includes the Classical period and various other periods. The central norms of this tradition became codified between 1550 and 1900, which is known as the common-practice period." The whole article is very accurate and interesting. What Angelina sings here is more in the style of Scottish folk music, which is appropriate since the lyrics are from a poem by Scottish poet Robert Burns. Thanks for your great reaction!

    She is so versatile. Angelina can slide into any genre and make it sound like it's her specially. I have tried to come up with what genre this song is, but in this particular case I think the genre is just 'Angelina'. This song was written by Nico with Angelina's voice in mind, and as you said, her voice is just one more instrument in the arrangement. It's not the jazz or pop covers we have heard from her in the past, but her voice is still so recognizable. Another mark of her versatility is the next song that released a few months after this one "Above The Water". The difference between "A Song for A" and "Above the Water" is huge, and still both sound exactly like Angelina.... ua-cam.com/video/rpdHJJQAd9Y/v-deo.html

    Nice reaction. More bewilderment by Angelina :-) I hear your interpretation. Glad to see nobody has yet pointed out the 'spelling error' for 'rigs'. It is the original old Scottish spelling of the word 'ridges', so not an error, rather an acknowledgement to the original poem.

    It is a poem set to music, the only song with lyrics by Nick Cartosio. Only a very experienced and vocally skilled singer can afford to sing this - it is not for everyone and if you are 10 years old, it is quite wild.

    This is, by far, the most difficult melody she's ever sung (that we've heard, anyway). I'm not saying the individual notes are difficult, of course, but their arrangement is very complex. She _must_ have been referring to the sheet music as she sang it… right? Please tell me she didn't do this from memory! (I've heard this song at least 20 times, and when I try to sing it to myself, I _cannot_ get the melody right! I always screw it up midway through the third line. Then again, I don't have "relative pitch", and I believe she does, so…)

    • @DonaldLancon
      @DonaldLancon 4 роки тому

      @Reg Dewitt I mean the ability called "relative pitch". When people say "perfect pitch", they tend to mean something called "absolute pitch", which is different.

    Even though anything else she's done would be very different from this one, it kinda begs to be followed up by _the most different_ AJ song possible. Unfortunately, you've already done the obvious choice: "I Put a Spell on You".
    So, let's see… how 'bout one of these:
    * "Above the Water" ua-cam.com/video/rpdHJJQAd9Y/v-deo.html a "featured" vocal on an EDM track by TRXD (or, if you'd like more "D" with your EDM: ua-cam.com/video/y6SilwnR2Zc/v-deo.html )
    * "I Have Nothing" ua-cam.com/video/eTcvvO6B3Io/v-deo.html the Whitney Houston song (not "I Who Have Nothing", which you just reacted to)
    Actually, that last one has somewhat "orchestral" bits in the music. Hmm… maybe we should "double down" on that, and try to come up with the most different sounding vocal while keeping similar instrumentation:
    * "Back to Black" ua-cam.com/video/LbXUKzOxACU/v-deo.html sung with a subset of the Norwegian Radio Orchestra [KORK] - lyrics completely rewritten from scratch by Angelina, BTW
    * "It's a Man's World" ua-cam.com/video/HEm7tGrjIKk/v-deo.html sung with the Staff Band of the Norwegian Armed Forces [Forsvarets stabsmusikkorps]
