    Crew on board cargo ships are under contract not actual employees of the company aka independent contractors, so the owners will try to fix the blame on the crew. The owners will try to get out from under this any way they can. Having said that, we don't yet have the full picture of what caused the blackout/power loss.

    Wait... isn't this like if you paid UPS to deliver a package for you, but then the truck was involved in a crash... and then UPS demanded that you, as the shipper, shoulder part of the burden for towing the truck and re-shipping your package?

      No, this is like when some multi billion dollar marine shipping company runs their boat into a bridge and gets the American taxpayer to pay the bill courtesy of Joey Biden. Because you've got plenty of money and oh btw we have to increase gas prices again too because of the wreck and you don't mind do you?
      Oh, and one more thing, we're going to have to raise food prices too because everything is affected, which reminds me I forgot to tell you your insurance on Everything is going to need to increase too.
      How else can these poor ship owners survive?

      The US Coast Guard would be the investigating authority. They might pull in other federal agencies but I suspect that they would be the lead agency.

      So, when the bridge was built 47 years ago, the channel was not nearly as deep and the ships were much smaller. Thousands of ships passing safely brings complacency.

      Litigation will go on for a few years, at least. The families, the city, the state, the affected companies.....so many lawsuits.
