Very good. I was wary of what a Norse Pagan had to say about the Celts, but as a practising Druid of 40 years study, I think your appraisal is pretty spot on. Wicca is based on pan-European traditions - in particular the work of Margaret Murray - and its appropriation of various Celtic "deities" may have rather muddied the waters. You will note that none of the characters in the Mabinogion are described as deities; it is often assumed this is a result of Christian authors hiding "the truth", but it could equally well point to a difference in the world-view of the ancient Celts. Hutton has debunked the idea of human sacrifice fairly thoroughly; by all accounts animal sacrifice was fairly humane as they had to be killed instantly and without fear. It seems that every species of animal and plant had its own spirit, every place had its "genius loci"; they don't seem to organise themselves into neat pantheons like the Greeks or Norse; the world of faerie seems to exist side-by-side with everyday reality and be on much more of an equal footing. It may well represent an earlier form of animism than the Norse. Agreed that going out in nature is the way to find out. One of the features of Druidry is that it has absolutely no scripture (not even a book of shadows), so everything is up for debate and much more reliant on personal experience. "Mabon" is not a traditional festival name - it was invented by Aiden Kelly in the '70s. You should visit Stonehenge - it's a beautiful folly.
Thank you for this reply and clarification. Being Scottish of Irish decent I'm a little embarrassed to say I'm only starting to look Into the traditions and accent ways. It's fascinating and I would love to learn more and apply it to lead a more connected way of life.
Love this video! I’ve been getting into more Celtic paganism as my family comes from Scotland my 16 great grandfather was the 2nd earl at Cassillis Castle in Scotland really diving into my ancestry and learning there old ways!
All my life I was told my family was English/Irish. For some reason that just felt wrong. It was like being given a pair of shoes you were told that they were your size, but they were uncomfortable and they never really fit. In my 20s, I discovered I was actually Welsh. I began exploring Welsh history, culture and music. The more I learned, the more I understand why I was the way I was. Celtic traditional music satisfies spiritually and emotionally in a way no other music ever has. Thank you for your video.
Thanks for the great video! I honor both the Celtic and Germanic aspects of my ancestral spirituality, just not mixing the two in rituals. Coming from regions where Germanic/Celtic mixed (Swabia and Flanders) plus the Celtiberian part of my heritage. I can say that southern Germany, both Swabia and Bavaria, have a very long and deep Celtic history. The Druid stones, the hill-forts, inscriptions and other archaeological findings that have been found. It was easy for our Germanic tribes (Suebi, Alemanni, and Bavarii) to absorb the previous Celtic tribes. In that region, we can attest to at least three Celtic Deities: Grannus and Sirona, related to healing qualities, thermal springs, and cleanliness; they are respectively masculine and feminine, showing that balance was understood; and the pan-Celtic god Lugus, whose name survives throughout the Alpine regional place-names. More to the northwest along the Rhine and up into the Netherlands were the Matronae, from whom we can extrapolate the Celts also had a three-fold view of Fates or the Nornir (we just don't know the Celtic names). I can also speak much to the Celtiberian Deities, which were very localized and regional but widespread throughout Spain and Portugal. These include Lugus and Endovelicus, but there were many, many more.
You're the only other person I've heard of to mention the book The Celts. I read that back when I was around 15, and I've been intrigued ever since. My mom encouraged religious exploration. ❤
Finally found a pagan channel that I can relate to (I'm sure there's more around but I just haven't found many), great video and I like how much you stress about sources (or lack of) before making a statement, too many conflate myth and folklore with history to try and validate something. That's the first video of yours I've watched but I'll be sure to watch some more.

Celtic Paganism is a recent intrigue of mine and this video gave me some good references and source material to research. I love nature and historical sites. I grew up thinking I was German. I never felt anything towards that heritage. I was always drawn to Ireland. Especially towards Druidry. Almost to the point of obsession. Come to find out, my Great Great grandfather was an Irish slave who escaped, and changed our last name. I have never felt more validated in my life. 😭❤️
Thank you so much for sharing - I am researching Celtic history and peoples and I am very appreciative of your use of historical books - I was having a very hard time narrowing down which books to read and this was incredibly helpful.
When you talked about the 2 burial Mounds & the 3rd circle where it had been used for fire. I closed my eyes & my 3rd eye showed me it was for cremation. A wood paya was made & the person was laid on it flower's or ever green plant were placed around & over them & as the evening Twilight fell. It was light & as the smoke & burning embers lifted up, it was said to carry the spirit back home for its rest before it rebirth into a new body. It was a love vision.
I watched this on the patreon, but i needed to watch it again as it was such well done video, thank you again for you hard work and dedication to the channel brother!

My mother, an orphan raised in Germany during ww2, lived in Bavaria. Actually she grew up in Floss near Wieden. Beautiful country side, so when my father (a Ukrainian who was a prisoner in Flossenburg concentration camp 1941 to 1945) was killed in a car accident in 1989, he was returning from our country property (my parents owned 60 acres in a small rural farm community in Western New York State), he was building a house to live in. Our family lived in a suburb of Buffalo NY, but after my father was killed in the accident, I convinced her to let us move, along with her, to our country property. My mother loved living at our country property because it reminded her of where she lived growing up in Bavaria. I'm a 64 year old Pagan (I practice Asatru) and love knowing that so many young people are returning to the faiths of their Ancestors. Jacob, love your work and am sharing your video with many young people I meet on Xbox. I teach Paganism to young people on Red Dead Redemption 2 online. May the Gods and Goddesses of Asgard bless you and your family and that they keep sharing their wisdom with you to put in your videos.

A fascinating book you can look into is the book of oberon. Essentially a grimoire. A lot of it is written through the lens of Christianity after it was adopted but the subjects, spells, deities, tales, and how to interact with the deities and other spirits is celtic. So you kind of have to parse out the christian from the celtic as you go through it but it has a whole lot of fascinating cultural information.

Awesome mom 💖
Finally found a pagan channel that I can relate to (I'm sure there's more around but I just haven't found many), great video and I like how much you stress about sources (or lack of) before making a statement, too many conflate myth and folklore with history to try and validate something. That's the first video of yours I've watched but I'll be sure to watch some more.
ooo, i am *so* excited for this!
i want to begin getting into celtic paths as that’s a lot of my heritage but have no idea where to start
thank you for this 💛
Hope the video is helpful for you!
As my father was of Scots- Irish and my mother of French ancestry this video interests me very much.Ive always felt a wanting to come back home.Maybe now is the time as I am 68. I've always felt a lacking in Christianity so this content is quite interesting as well. I've always felt a higher power in the natural world around me.This video hits home!! I'm looking forward to seeing more of this content.
Wow! What a great video! Thank you so much for showing us all the amazing stone circles and beautiful landscapes as well as providing us with some of the basics of Celtic Paganism.
Thanks so much for filming at these breathtaking locations! It truly added SO much to the video. Even though much of the information is vague, Celtic spirituality really comes through in nature.
The rainbow and the oldest tree made me cry with tears of love for our ancestors. They were definitely with you in this video.
I really liked this video 😊I'm interested in Celtic Paganism, but as you said it's hard to find information about it, so thanks for putting this together and the landscape is stunning 🤩
I just returned from Scotland. My great great grandfather was born in Edderton. I was deeply moved while there and carried much of the energy home with me. Thank you for your great informative video!
Scotland is absolutely gorgeous and you can just feel the ancestors welcoming you home. This is a awesome video and you definitely explained Wicca the best Iv heard. Being a Celtic pagan witch and I struggled with understanding Wicca as it’s fairly new but the practice is old. Makes sense the way you explained it ❤
I’ve been exploring Celtic paganism for years but this is by far the absolute best video on it I’ve ever seen. So informative, respectful, enlightening and fun. Thank you SO much for this. This video has encouraged me to cast aside any doubt/uncertainty and officially plunge into Celtic paganism fully, as my religion. Thank you. ❤️
Very honored to hear this! Thank you very much! Best wishes on the journey, I know it can be hard. But when we have experiences with the old magics its always worth it!
Thank you! I’m getting more into Druidism and it’s very hard to find sources so I appreciate you making this video!
Yes same!!! Although it's so hard to find good books or websites on Druids practices or rituals, it's kinda hard to find the building blocks 😕
@@soapee6729 Try looking at the original spellings like Drui;.. Druid is Latin based from the term Druidēs ... Druid is anglo-fied . Before anybody starts commenting my Father Scots, Mother Irish, I have also studied for 18 months on the island of Iona and return many times yo family to intensify my knowledge,
This is amazing. I’ve been trying to research Celtic religion and this is by far the most in depth video on UA-cam I have come across. Extremely grateful
Thank you! That means a lot!
Hi! I'm from south Portugal, always felt connected to Ireland, highly doubt to have ancestors from there. Easier to be linked to the Mours... But recently my 13 year old daughter got obcessed about Norway, a country which I know nothing, and we started researching and all, and now I feel like I might start studying Norse mythology. I am enjoying your videos, thank you for all the cool informations. Blessings.
The old civilizations traveled wide and far. There's a chance that your pull to "Norse" ideas is not Norse at all, but to something older.
What a beautiful video. Thank you for making it!
I love the shots of the beautiful landscape!!
I have no intention of becoming a celtic pagan but this was interesting. I like hearing the passion and it gave me some good resources because i love reading about old folklore and legends. Thanks for the video
I am a Norse pagan from Dublin Ireland my grandfather was a Celtic druid pagan so I will look forward to learning more about the Celtic druid gods because they are the gods of Ireland
It’s been a year..did you get into Irish paganism ? (:
Thank you for this video. I have just began my journey. I was "christian" however over the years I have began to realize i was never comfortable being a christian. It never felt right if that makes sense. I asked myself where are my roots. All my roots are in England, Scotland and Ireland. I feel a strong pull to Ireland and so i am exploring Celtic Paganism. Thank you for this information
Your work is a blessing to us❤
The beautiful rainbow 🌈 at the end and all the education! Thank you!!!
Thank you for covering Celtic and Norse. These have helped me to begin finding my path
If u finding a right path then think about Allah who is the only God of the whole universe. Odin is just a story. If you think odin is not story then convince me.
@@chbilalkhalid8502 Agree to disagree and move on with your life. Dont disuade others from finding their faith.
Your path should lead to the bible which should lead you to orthodox Christianity
Wish i could turn off commenting .... too each their own
As someone who was born in Wales and is willing to learn about all sorts of paganism, thank you for this video!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@TheWisdomOfOdin Yes, I really need to get into Welsh mythology, I would love to learn more about my Celtic heritage as well as loads of other mythologies 👍
I am an American (please don't hold that against me), but I've heard stories of great grandmother coming from Wales since I was a child. Besides cousins and my 2 daughters, my blood relatives are all gone. I regret I didn't write down the stories and ask more. I recently learned that both sides of many family comes from Wales. I am excited to learn more.
Thank you so much for your amazing video! Watching your video give me a beautiful feelling and I really want to visit Scotland, Ireland and others Celtic places and study more about Celtic Paganism!
I love that you're on the scene and not just sitting at a desk!
Thank you! That has always been one of my biggest goals
Really great video! I grew up Roman Catholic. I never quite connected with it and other than Christmas and St. Patrick's day, the religion hasn't hit me. Celtic Paganism is a recent intrigue of mine and this video gave me some good references and source material to research. I love nature and historical sites. I feel something from those things and maybe it could be a calling spiritually. Thanks again for the lecture and pleasant highland journey!
This is the first video of yours I've watched but you already have a new subscriber! My husband is Norse pagan and I'm hesitant to label myself but I've been drawn to Celtic paganism since I was a child. The offering you gave at the burial mound was a beautiful moment.
This is the second time that I watched your video. Beautifully done, thank you!
I love this channel! Its nice to see someone being so productive. Keep up the good w0rk!
Thank you!
This has to be my favorite video so far. Thank you for going out of your way to travel to these far off places and really getting into the field which is incredibly important when it comes to researching paganism. How magical was that rainbow at Loc Ness!? This has to be the best introduction video to Celtic paganism I’ve seen so far(but that’s my opinion) Thank you for what you do. SKAL!
I don't think I even believe I saw that rainbow over Loch Ness still!
Glad you enjoyed the video, and I am very glad my message came through on this subject
People do realize that there was an actual British Roman settlement called Camelodunum & it was the regional capitol before Boudica's Rebellion. After that, they changed it to Londinum.
Fantast! Really felt like I was on a tour with you! Interesting and realistic details. Great Job! Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!
I am late to this video but oh so glad I’ve found it - I’m in awe with how much information you’ve provided and how in depth your video is. thank you a million!!!blessed be!
I am so glad you spent time talking in different places than stone henge. The oldest tree in Europe was magical!
It'd be cool to see you do a video on Slavic paganism as well. 🤙
I am an O’Brien and my family was fortunate enough to be able to keep our last name when fleeing to America.
I would love to be able to visit.
Thank you. I have really wanted to learn more about my own ancient heritage and whatnot. I love your channel. Great job. ❤
What an amazing video! So much information! Thank you 🙏🏻
I watched this on the patreon, but i needed to watch it again as it was such well done video, thank you again for you hard work and dedication to the channel brother!
Very honored you enjoyed it that much!
Loved this video, thanks for sharing your experiences and sights.
Thank you for this video. My blood line is both Celtic and Viking coming out of west Scotland. My grandparents moved to the United States in the 40’s. I have always had a feeling of something calling me back to Scotland since I was a child. Once again thank you for this video
I highly recommend “Irish Mythology Podcast” if you’re looking for a fun way to learn more about the Irish Gods he mentioned 😊
Fun video and great music! I love how you bring so many concepts together.
You speak with such passion, it's inspiring and commendable.
Beautiful video. Great information. Thank you very much
Amazing commitment to the content!! Awesome!
Awesome video I recently for out that my anstey comes Petham Kent 1635 and Stirlingshire Scotland 1660 still exploring and loving it
Thank you for this informative tour! You've given some great resources
thank you so much for this!! i’m a beginner celtic pagan, and i’ve been trying to find as much information as possible. celtic paganism very much so calls to me, all aspects of it. i have much respect for norse paganism, and i do feel called to it, but not as much as celtic.
My ancestors were all Celts, but I'm very much aligned with Slavic paganism myself. This video is super interesting and I may focus more on my ancestors gods, as it would more than likely be more fitting
Despite my close ties to Eastern Europe
This is so much, but for me an educational treat, from my visit to Scotland with the burial mounds I did see, but to Iona I had to miss I thank you for this presentation.
Awesome video... appreciate your time and effort💓🙏🏼💫💜
Hey! Thank you for this video! My ancestors are celtic and I come from a line of druids. So I practice celtic paganism as well as witchcraft. I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge, it helped me out a lot :))
This video represents the number one item on my bucket list ... visiting these places. Have always felt drawn to visiting these places, but going is a few years away. BUT ... You've allowed me to catch glimpses. Thank you.
Plus good to hear more of Celtic paganism. Thank you!
I have a lot more footage, I plan on making a video in a few weeks going into detail of these sites that I visited!
@@TheWisdomOfOdin REALLY look forward to seeing those!
I just found out a bit ago that instead of being super Irish (according to my family) I'm actually Welsh. It is absolutely so hard to find specifically Welsh paganism history. Thank you for this!
Check out Mhara Starling channel. Welsh Pagan and Witch from Wales.
@@KellyLB-d2s oh yes! I love her! Have her book it's wonderful
I’m so stoked you’re in Bavaria! My family is from there!!! The mountains are outstanding! I’m so happy you’re looking into history! It’s my favorite.
I have a few videos filmed across Bavaria, the one I made called Germanic Paganism, Sacred Plants. Was filmed in the heart of a small Bavarian village talking about local folk lore
@@TheWisdomOfOdinBavarians, do you know where Jacob came from???
Very beautiful emotional at points video. Thank you.
This video was awesome! Thank you so much for doing these!
I love how educational your videos are ❤
I appreciate this video more than you could understand. Thank you for your research and enthusiasm.
Fantastic video, mate. You briefly mentioned a few of the Irish deities but I'd love to see a video where you go into more depth regarding the Scottish deities. Any chance of that in the near future?
I just discovered your page today and am so happy to have found it. I have been drawn to this way of life for many years but have only just started to explore it. I actually went through an Orthodox Christian catechism, knowing full-well that as a gay man, I would never be accepted. It has been very hard. But I left and am now back to exploring my Irish and Scottish roots and my pagan ancestors. I have never been more at peace.
Also some good sources: Cath Maige Tuired and Táin Bó Cúailgne
man Hail to the glorious beauty of the Scottish Highlands
There can be Only One with such vast and unique Beauty

New subscriber here. LOVE your videos! I’m visiting the UK in Sept (for the 1st time). It’s one of those senior citizen bus tours BUT…I found out that we’ll be stopping at Glastonbury (watched your video❤️) and we have an optional excursion to Clava Cairn (which I WILL be doing!!)
I feel very drawn to these sites and have all my life. After 67 years I finally get to go BE there. I will be taking some small items to leave as offerings at the various sites that I get to visit. Going to try to breathe, “center”, and thank the deities/ ancestors for the awesome opportunity to commune with them.
THANK YOU for all the amazing info that you’re sharing🥰
Been to Scotland. I love Scotland. The scenery is incredible. I could live in a cottage on the edge of a Loch and not miss a beat.
great work men, best regards from colombia, the pagan colombia
A fascinating book you can look into is the book of oberon. Essentially a grimoire. A lot of it is written through the lens of Christianity after it was adopted but the subjects, spells, deities, tales, and how to interact with the deities and other spirits is celtic. So you kind of have to parse out the christian from the celtic as you go through it but it has a whole lot of fascinating cultural information.
Delightful presentation. You have honoured your ancestors well 🙏🏽
Beautiful video and so informative. Thank you for this!
Scotland has a way of stealing your heart 🥰 .. put The Mabinogion higher up on your reading lists 😉 ..and in the meantime, if you're looking for some driving music to listen to, check out 'Dahm the Bard' (he's on UA-cam.. Amazon music Bandcamp etc.), alot of his songs are based on the tales of The Mabinogion. Great video! Thank you.
Another great video!! Thanks so much!
EXTREMELY INFORMATIVE &INTERESTING video!
I am more Scandinavian than anything but I do have Scottish and Irish primarily Norse but I have several Irish deities I follow as I do Norse. Great video and thank you brother have a safe trip
Thank you so much for being my eyes and ears as you experience these pagan lands. Being handicapped, I personally can not travel to places you go to, so thank you for allowing me to tag along.
