A Day In The Life Of Fred Thomas, aka 'Betty' (Brand Ambassador for Betty Stogs Bitter)

Fred Thomas is our 2022-23 Brand Ambassador for our much loved, flagship amber ale, Betty Stogs Bitter, and he's nothing short of a fundraising legend. The Skinner’s faithful know him best for his performances as Betty Stogs, the character from Cornish folklore who gave her name to our award-winning amber ale. Over the years Fred has morphed into ‘Betty’ on countless occasions, appearing at community events and undertaking relentless fundraising challenges to raise money for good causes. His amazing efforts have helped generate over £280,000 for charities including the RNLI and Children’s Hospice South West. Fred’s deep Cornish roots, community spirit and fun-loving nature make him the perfect choice as Skinner’s Brand Ambassador for Betty Stogs, 2022-23.
We went on the road with Fred, following him in his day job for M.A Grigg, a country store and one of Cornwall’s outstanding family businesses. The management at Griggs have granted ‘Betty’ a lot of leniency over the years to go about her fundraising capers, so hats off to Michael Grigg and his team for their incredible support.
