IMO this is the only way to “learn” raga music, which is all about “guided play” or “improvising persuasively” (paradox after paradox!) 😭😭😭 so when I am sitting with maestra #FaridaKhanum in #Lahore I try to “absorb-and-emit” what I am hearing (instead of trying to “unpack it” or “break it down”). Please convey my respect to this Goddess of Sur. I had the opportunity to sit across from her and listen to her sing without any instruments in a room. I had the recording on my phone. I would listen to that recording whenever I felt disturbed or hassled. It would immediately transport me to a calmer place. Incidentally, she told me none of her children has learned singing from her. So great to see you, Ali Sethi, learning from this jewel of South Asia and classical gayaki.
