The S15 was going all well until one of the coolant lines under the intake manifold started leaking. This is the worst leak to get on an SR20 because it's in the hardest location to get to. I bail on the S15 for now & work on the 350Z.
Been working with the sr20 for almost 8 years. I am actually planning on making a silicone hose kit to replace all the rubber lines in the cooling system complete with high quality sleeved hose clamps. I usually do this for my builds and I think it would be a very useful kit as nothing else is available like it and these leaks are very common.

Get ahold of Sammit’s address and send him over a kit! I’m sure if you got him one, and it was a proper clean setup that eliminates those headache issues. From the eyes alone that love the SR motor on his channel will keep you plenty busy to make a few kits to make a few bucks from!

I did the same mistake when rebuilding a CA. Those original Nissan hoseclamps will fail you 100%

I'd be ordering a drivers side door handle, too. It could be on the way out & would mean you'd have to climb in from the passenger side. It's an annoyance about that hose clamp, hope you can get it fixed without removing the inlet manifold.
Dropping that latch in the door was the best comedic timing

Little off on the VQ numbers. the non-fwd DE had a few variations that ranged from 280 to like 300ish (rev up) on paper. The HR was more like 310 or so. Obviously these numbers will vary slightly depending on the individual models and years, as well as regulations and testing standards.
On that head unit you should be able to change the colors of the button to orange to match the stock gauges. I have a similar one in my z and once I found out I could almost color match the buttons I loved the radio. Like you said its the little things. I'm super glad mine came with a mint all black inside no scratches. Just picked mine up 4 months ago. But hp wise. I wanna 280ish was the de and 300 310 was the hr at the crank.
hey @SAMMIT lil Mechanic Life Hack about having to worry about dropping bolts/nuts when undoing them, put a small neodymium magnet inside the end of the socket and it should keep the bolt/nut from falling down into hard to reach areas.

With the spring style clamp a little bit of silicone in the hose or on the pipe will seal it spring clamps do not work as well as gear clamps fo coolant hoses
Not true at all, spring clamps maintain constant tension on a hose, worm clamps do not get tighter when the hose softens during heat cycles. This is why oem hoses don’t have worm clamps.

@@toddsupraman7609 right, those type of clamps do not maintain tension when the hose is heat cycled, which is why they aren’t typically used in oem.
The hr vq35 does have gallery gasket issues so if the oil pressure is below that first line it’s time to change them

Sam you should have laid some clear coat on those new door trims that replaced the carbon wrapped ones. Preserves it a lot longer especially if you got 2k clear in jp 2k clear has a hardener in it that’ll giver the best protection
I did a full swap on my 2000 2.5rs used a whole wrx as a donor and I mean all the wiring ,dash, drive line,interior and on the test drive I hit a bump and the whole car went dark but was running... I didn't completely snap the main harness plug for the car in to the under dash fuse box
could have been core plug in back of cylinder head or behind the flywheel,just remind yourself of that when doing the hose under the plenum as it would have been pull it all back out time to change a £1 part

Daily driving your car after finally getting it running is the greatest feeling that cannot be explained to non car people. Had to take out the trans on my 180sx a couple of weeks ago and had a break in period of 1000 kms and I was bringing that bitch to work everyday, getting groceries in it, doing anything I could do put mileage on it.

Bummer deal, any engine I tear down and rebuild I never reuse those style clamps for that exact reason. I put all new clamps on. Just some thought for next time.
Hey Sammit awesome to see the growth of the channel, I’m gonna be stationed in Japan in 2022 and I thinking about saving for a s15 and what would be a good price range for a mint one and not a rust bucket ?
Id buy a couple more of those panels to be safe, the prices are probably gonna skyrocket like the r32 quarter panels did after they became legal in the us.

It could be much, much worse.. I burned out a thrust bearing right after a newly built engine, damaging the block and crank.
that pipe leaking on the N15 chassis with the sr20de was a nightmare, cost me a day of my life i will never get back lol
Those 350z wheels are the 35th anniversary wheels, i have them on my stagea to fit over my 370z akibono break upgrade
Always replace with new hose clamps since it’s out deal with no problems

Tried to orded sr20det hoodie in M size, all ready out of stock. Story of my life, same happened to me with yashio factory hoodies.
Bruh I’ve had that exact coolant leak on my sr s13, I said f that and paid a mechanic $80 to fix that 😂
When I overheated mine I got a few pinhole leaks around that spot. Was a nightmare.

Door handle you can chalk that up to Mr Carlos ghosn coz he did the cost cutting.
Always a few bugs to work out, could be worse I've had to pull a barely ran cylinder head for a oil leak.

I deff think nissan did better with the new Z and the z32 than with the z33 just working on a turbo z32 is alot of work and a pain but performance wise it's night and day difference like a STI impreza compared to a BRZ lol

It seems to me like VQs do not like boost or turbos yea I've seen em actually make some power but it's the same result every time kaboom!!! The only I guess we'll say decently reliable application I've seen is a basic supercharger nothing crazy actually get a lil life and take a little abuse maybe a nitrous n/a application would be better idk I'm a RB guy I personally hate VQs
To bad with the cooling leak.. But then good to find it now rather then later and it could cause more trouble...

I'm pretty sure they make special pliers for those Ford-style hose clamps. If you can get one in there it'll save you some grief and hand damage. :)

Why not just make the Z a good fun road car? With nice wheels, bit of exterior, simple stuff. You own a Chaser, surely the best seat time car, it’s putting out 450 wheel, more than you will get out the VQ. You have an R32 and Evo, plus the red skyline to make content with.
